For some reason I thought that the J&P had closed but we saw it was open and though we weren't quite ready to stop we did and glad we did. It is just as good as we remembered from our last stop. Food was good...and portions were more than we needed so we took "to go" boxes. Chicken fried steak fingers were the real deal. Each piece definitely sliced from a piece of round steak. The gravy had a bit of a different taste than many places (think DQ). Sort of in the middle of nowhere so if you want to stop at a regular mealtime you may need to do a little planning.More

I am a Texas Trooper and was working the Comstock area. For sometime I’ve heard of people talking about a restaurant in Comstock that had the most excellent food. I have nothing but great things to say about J and P Grill. The wait staff...was friendly, the food was great, the food came out fast and the townspeople were very accommodating. This is an amazing restaurant and an exceptional community! God Bless! Worth the stop. The hotel is also very clean, freshly remodeled, and the staff was professional.More

Clean bathroom, great food, friendly service. We had our dog with us and ate outside in the back. A great lunch spot en route to Marathon, Texas.

We were driving from Big Bend Natl Park to San Antonio through many tiny towns with limited food options when we spotted this little food stop off the road. Our expectations were pretty minimal....boy, were we pleasantly surprised. First of all, the place was packed,...but we were instantly greeted and invited to sit and peruse a menu. Instantly, a friendly waitress asked us what we wanted to drink, answered our questions and took our order. Once our food arrived, it was obvious that this was the RIGTHT place to eat. The side salad was very generous and topped with fresh vegetables and just the right amount of shredded cheese. The turkey club sandwich was served on a WARM cibatta roll stuffed with turkey, melted cheese, lettuce a fresh tomato slices. The fries were thin, crisp and hot! The coffee was dark, smooth and hot! Yummo! We were engaged in casual conversation and asked if everything was up to par. The Ladies' Room was very clean and had hand lotion and hair spray on the sink! When we paid our bill and complimented the cashier on the food, we were given a tipped hat, a big thank you and a, "Come back Y'all!" What's not to like? Friendly service, delicious food and extra frills in the bathroom!More

Fabulous foods. Very nice people. We love the hamburgers. We drove 1-1/2 hours out of the way to eat lunch on the way back home from Big Bend NP. A friend flew down from Montana, and we drove from DFW area to Comstock on the...way to Big, so he can tryout J and P burger. He loved it. We highly recommend y’all should try out J&P!More

I sat at the bar and was greeted in a very friendly manner. I ordered a Lone Star [when in Rome], my first ever, and it was great. I went to #1 on the menu, a cheeseburger, which was huge and perfectly prepared and presented.

We went there Sat. and they did not have the full menu just pulled pork. I was not impressed. In fact had a stomach ache afterwards. Will have to call before we go out there to make sure they have their regular menu available. Also...they have taken out the pool table.More

Not much happening in Comstock except this great little burger joint. Pretty much the only spot in town so they don’t have to be great to get business...but they are. Non-traditional Patty Melt was just the right amount of grease to onions. Yum!

The J and P Bar and Grill is a must-see for wayfarers looking for a family-owned hangout for all of the locals within 100 miles. We frequently drive from Del Rio out here to eat, the food is always good especially the burgers and steak fingers and their french fries are real potatoes not the frozen ones.

Rated the #3 burgers, in Texas, I have to say they were the best restaurant burgers we've ever had! I had the "heart attack" burger, two large beef patties sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. The breaded mushrooms were the best we've ever had, and...the fries were terrific. The atmosphere is down home and fun. Press-wood walls and scuffed tile floor.More

Stopped in the town on a road trip and was directed to the J and P Bar & Grill and was blown away by the food. I have literally been around the world and all over the country. This is the best burger I have...ever had. Hnd pressed at the time of the order and cooked to perfection. Was messy and delicious just as a burger should. I just wish I lived closer to indulge more often. If in the area is definitely worth the stop for the food, for unless you are vegetarian the food will not disappoint.More
