Tried Ruchi palace as I was looking for Indian options during my business trip to Dallas and had sampled a few other places which I didn't like. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, especially vegetarian food which I found to be too South-Indian style...in a few other places but not here. Great Paneer and samosas - perfectly made to Indian taste (Americans can ask for less spicy ofcourse).More

I was visiting my mother in Carrollton and thought we'd try this Indian place because she had heard about it. It was a little odd. We got there right at noon. We walked in and saw no staff near the entrance. So, we wandered around...and found a hall which was being decorated for a private birthday party. We walked out of that room and went to another room which appeared to be reserved for a memorial service or something. Finally, we walked into a third room where we saw some buffet stalls. One of the staff was walking by and I asked about the buffet. He said it would be ready in a few minutes and told us we could sit at a HUGE table with about 20 chairs. I told him it was just the two of us and he looked confused and continued to point us to the big table which was really a collection of about 10 tables pushed into a rectangle, covered by several tablecloths. We looked at each other and were like, whatever. We went and sat facing a tv set that was off. The waiter asked if we would like to watch some Indian YouTube channel while we were waiting for the food to come out. I said no thanks, at which point he put the tv on a Google Earth channel or something which showed some amazing topographical photos. After waiting about 30 minutes, the food was all brought out. Pretty good buffet, all things considered. They had all the usual North Indian items. One of the women who was with the birthday group started asking one of the waiters about whether something had nuts in it because her kid was allergic to nuts. Looked like she was trying hard to appear affluent and upper crust. It wasn't working. While we were eating, the memorial service group started their speeches and singing in the room next door. We were like, WTH is going on in this place? It was a bizarre dining experience overall, but the food was good. Don't go right at noon, because they are on Indian Standard Time, read perpetually late, like 99% of Indians. I can say that because I'm Indian and pride myself on my punctuality. I'd probably go to this place again, and hopefully, they won't have a birthday and/or memorial service going on.More
