We had high expectations, as we read some reviews and their interesting website; The idea of a chef-owner who sources and cooks fresh in a French country style.. limited hours, in a small town.. we hoped this would be a nice restaurant to add to...our area circuit. We were in advance contact with the chefs’ wife, Sandy, to insure a table and in particular soft seat chairs, which we learned are limited. This worked out fine. The atmosphere in general is simple and rustic but acceptable. Parking in back allowed for direct access without any stairs. There were six other customers when we arrived, we saw the chef stop to talk to two of the parties. Six more customers arrived before we left. This was a Saturday... so maybe 14 customers total? That might raise some concern for their finances, but should allow extra attention to detail and service. We spent about $120.. this is not a hamburger joint.. the steak and the bread were both high points, but, we were disappointed that: - paper napkins rather than cloth or linen were in place. (COVID-19 rules?) - The server did not know the specials. When she returned from the kitchen with this info, she told of them without detail and certainly nothing to make them sound appetizing. - the ‘Special house salad’ had a 3” broccoli stem.. the server said the chef was always careful not to do that.. we asked her to show him.. - the entrees were served with vegetables. Ours were both overcooked and mushy... clearly not freshly made to order. - The chocolate mousse, the server said, is made from scratch by the chef, was dry and pasty. Like it was a couple days old.. my spouse said it was more like dry pudding. - we were not visited by the Chef or Sandy during our visit... despite being there about 1 1/2 hrs.. in fact all six employees we noted disappeared into the kitchen for extended times. Keeping in mind at one point we were the only people in the restaurant.. This restaurant is a great idea that we had strongly hoped would be refreshing and great. So, I write this review only after waiting six days for Sandy or the Chef to respond to my letter of our experience with both pluses and minuses .. I was really hoping that we would get some note of appreciation for our patronage and comments.. maybe even welcomed back? Instead we were told that we were wrong and to not come back.. how’s that for an attitude? They’re either too close to see their errors/opportunities or maybe they just don’t care? Sorry, no recommendation from us.More

We started meeting our UT student kids there years ago and it has become a great place to meet, even after they have graduated. Don’t leave without taking home some fresh baked bread. Well worth the drive!

An easy drive NW from Houston, about 90 minutes you are in the tiny town of Buxton, about 10 miles West of Brenham! This is true, authentic, country French Food... and...a fine little wine list too... Park in the back so you do not have to climb the stairs to the main dining room... Better than many 'French' Restaurants in Houston...make the trip... lots of fine hotels in Brenham... we love the Hampton... you will not be unhappy with this quick trip to France...More

"Never Again" should go back and find out that this place is incredible and consistently the best because chef Andre creates everything from scratch with the best natural ingredients and scrumptious recipes from the old country. The chef is French and doesn't even like press,...because he wants the atmosphere to stay cozy and local. I doubt he's even read any of these reviews. He might not even know how to get on the internet! But he is original and a genius when it comes to creating foodie masterpieces. Every restaurant can have a bad night, especially when understaffed and a holiday. But in the time of easily trashing a business that has made people happy and fulfilled for many years, maybe people should not be allowed to go online before they've at least given a place a 2nd chance. As for me, Andre's homemade Pate Maison and his Baron d' Agneau Rack of Lamb has had my mouth watering for days and tonight I'm going to feast!! Maybe Trip Advisor shouldn't let these negative, naive reviews take top billing on the Google search.More

We eat here often. The chef and his wife will come to your table and check on guests. They have seasonal specials and a great array for favorites. The lamb is excellent. We also live the salmon, shrimp and steak dishes. If you leave without...trying the peach melba dessert you are missing out. It is an excellent dessert. They are only open Friday, Saturday for dinner and Sunday for lunch. If you are in the area in those days it is well worth the stop.More

A pretty country restaurant hidden away just off of Hwy 290 in Burton, TX. Always a most enjoyable experience. We have eaten here many times, the food quality is always excellent. Intriguing and tempting menu with a French flair. Children's meals and portions available. Wonderful...home made French bread. Good wine and beer selections. The wait staff are friendly and engaging and Chef Andre takes the time to greet all his guests. They do not take credit cards, cash only.More

What a wonderful surprise to find this "gem" of a restaurant. The French food was delicious and the fresh bread is a very yummy treat. You have to experience it to appreciate the whole experience.

This is an authentic French country restaurant in a tiny town outside Brenham. It is literally the last place in the world one would ex[pect to find a restaurant of this quality. Andre makes his own bread daily(which is for sale) and has put his...signature on many French classics. I personally love his ragout, which has an Asian twist. His pate is excellent. The beef dishes are all made with fresh tenderloin, and the garlic chicken is exceptional. My wife love his cassoulet (which is only available in the winter) and the shrimp scampi as well. The staff is local and very friendly. You can eat here for much less than you would expect. $30/head is about usual. Note, they only take cash or checks. No credit cards are accepted.More
