My wife and I had lunch as we were leaving town. We knew it was an older established restaurant so we stopped on a whim. I don't remember having eaten there previously. They had a lunch special menu. I chose Chicken Fried Steak and my wife chose Turkey and Dressing. Both of us enjoyed our meal. The food was flavorful... More

It smells like an "Ash Tray". For years every smoker in Brownwood went here and being that there was so much smoke in here. You can't see the food for all the Cigarette smoke. The dishes were old in 1950. In 2016 it's still a creepy place.

The Red Wagon is what small town diners use to be, a laid back friendly place to have a good breakfast or lunch, good food for fair prices, just wish they were open for dinner!

Way back when..maybe 10+ yrs...this was the spot for a cheap breakfast at appx $2 with free coffee....and the pies were just above a $ (still remember that cherry creme) yummy, yummy...but things have changed over the years and so have the owners (?) Now just eat there occasionally for breakfast (what , no pies?)..... .

Stopped in for a lunch special as I was visiting from Iowa. Had the Chicken Fried Steak and all the trimmings. It was delicious and portions were very generous. Too much food to finish for very little money. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. I recommend it very highly and will be going back in my next visit for sure!

Great find. Be forewarned: this is a smoking restaurant. You immediately notice the smoke when you come in. They do have a non-smoking section which is where we sat. Seems to have its own air conditioning because we never felt like we were in a smoking restaurant back there. The lunch specials are amazing! We had one of everything they... More

Dining at the Red Wagon is a real treat! It is a step back in time, to an era when smoking was permitted everywhere and diners like the Red Wagon dominated the restaurant selection of small town Texas. Offering low cost breakfast specials to accompany chicken fried steak, gravy, biscuits and mashed potatoes. The clientele, surprisingly, span the entire field... More

This is a wonderful place to get home cooked food!! Very good prices and plenty to eat! The only draw back is the place is smoking with a Very small no smoking section but it is with closed doors so You can't really tell they are smoking in the main cafe!!

Thank Debbie B
