Underwood's always goes beyond the norm--each year they give proceeds from lunch that is open to the entire county. Very great people and oh yes the food is delicious

I have tried and tried to like this Brownwood icon, I just cant. Everything is greasy. BBQ sauce should not have an inch of grease floating on top.

Everything about Underwoods is great. Any time I get close to Brownwood I am going to stop there. Great meats, sides, hot rolls, and dessert!

Underwood's used to be spread across Texas but Brownwood is the first one to open in 1946. As a child in 1962 my parents took me to the Underwood's in Sherman Texas and when we moved to the Dallas area in 1965 there was one in Garland Texas and I have been in love with their BBQ since! The Garland... More

The decor may be old-fashioned but so is the food and let me tell you, it is delicious!! The service is old-fashioned too (as in very attentive and extremely friendly.) They even walk around with a cart to refill your drinks, and offer whipped cream for your cobbler and fresh hot rolls. They have good barbecue but I got the... More

Not a bad little place. Been around for awhile. We always stop in on our way out west. Lots of selections to choose from so take stock of your options. Quality is what you would expect (nothing spectacular but good, old school grub) Chicken Fried Steak and sides is my go-to but I try to add something different every time.

We stopped in on our way through looking for a good Texas lunch - we realized it was a cafeteria , so our expectations were a southern meal. What we got was bland fried chicken, over cooked vegetables that were soggy, and drowned coleslaw. Pass in this one- probably should have hit one of the many local Mexican restaurants instead.

What can I say, the food here has been very good for years, I have been eating here since I was a kid in the 70's. I love the taste of their BBQ and the hot rolls, and all the vegetables are always fresh and hot.

Underwood's might have been a wonderful place to eat back in its hay day but if that is the case the restaurant has severely gone down hill. My husband order the ribs and I ordered the steak, yet they tasted the exact same..bland! The servers in the cafeteria style line are so rude and the cups they give you for... More

The fish was good, but the barbecue can be outdone by any of the other ones in town. Rolls and cobbler are very good though
