We traveled to the area to hike to Greeter falls. The hike took much longer and was much more difficult than anticipated. So by the time we got to the Southern Oven Restaurant we were hungry and tired. We arrived about lunch time. There were...a half dozen people in the restaurant in addition to ourselves. The waitress was prompt and friendly. She took our order and brought our drinks quickly. That was the end of the quick service. The age of Covid I am typically very patient with restaurant staff because with people declining to return to work restaurants are often under staffed. Even with the Covid allowance I cannot image why it took well over an hour to get our food. This was true not only for us but for everyone in the room including law enforcement offers taking a break for lunch. So no discrimination, everybody's service was amazingly slow. I noticed they had an active pick-up and carry out business in addition to servicing the patrons actually in the restaurant. I assumed the delay was because there was only one cook. As I was paying my bill I discovered that there were actually three cooks. With the level of activity I saw with three cooks I cannot imagine why it took more than an hour to get the food to the table. It can only be because of very poor management in the kitchen. As for the food. The portions were good sized. The prices were fair, but the food is nothing special. I had a patty melt that was nothing like any patty melt I have ever had. What I got was a hamburger on white bread with american cheese and a few grilled onions. That is not a patty melt - that's a cheese burger served on bread instead of a bun. For the uninformed a patty melt is hamburger served on rye bread with Swiss cheese and plentiful grilled onions. Very disappointing. Furthermore the meat tasted as though it had not been seasoned at all. Patty melts are typically seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper while being cooked. I had baked beans. They tasted like beans taken out of can and heated. Make an effort, add some or all of the following: little ham, onion, green pepper, honey, maple syrup, BBQ sauce, and bother to actually bake the beans. My wife had the fried catfish. While it was tasty it was very greasy. The fries and onion rings and hush puppies were good. If you are in the area, really not in a hurry and have plenty to talk about and don't mind waiting an hour this is your place. Pass on the patty melt and fish and stick to items like cheese burgers, fries and the like.More

Burgers and fries were amazing and they even carry my favorite soda Sun-drop. Desserts looked good as well. Friendly down home atmosphere and staff. The same Tables were wiped down by two different people when they weren’t swamped. They even wiped the salt and pepper...shakers down and the ketchup bottle was clean as well. In a world full of scissors this place ROCKS You’ll be lovin the Southern Oven!More

We were looking for something close to us in Dunlap, TN, and found this lovely cabin out in Palmer, about 30 minutes away. It was cute as a button, and the service was quick and attentive. We had breakfast, which was incredibly affordable! I had...a Western Omelet which had excellently cooked veggies--not to crispy and not too mushy--but just right! My husband had a cheese omelet with hash browns and sausage and enjoyed it as well. A real test--the ladies room was very clean, as did the facility itself seem to be. We shall be back soon to try out the lunch menu!More

I stop here for lunch whenever I travel out this way on my motorcycle. Great eats for breakfast or lunch, reasonably priced with great service. Limited menu items but that's OK, and don't forget to get a nice dessert either there or to go. Sometimes,...I'll put dessert in my cycle saddle bag and save it for later.More
