This restaurant is now our new favorite when we visit Nashville. I have many food sensitivities and allergies which makes dining out very difficult. This was not a problem here. When I was looking for a restaurant the images people had posted of their meal was pictures of real food instead bread and breaded deep fried food, pasta and buns. They were pictures of beautifully prepared vegetable and meat. The kitchen was completely able to work around my food allergies and we even heard it announced in the kitchen when my Duck order came up what my allergies are.
My husband and I both enjoyed a cocktail before dinner. Both drinks were great. We did have one small issue. The escargot came out over cooked. They prepared us a replacement and offered a bowl of lobster bisque while we waited. And even though they replaced the escargot and we received a free bowl of lobster bisque they did not charge us for the escargot!
As I mentioned before, I ordered the duck which was divine and my husband ordered the prime rib which he says melted in his mouth. Both of our meals were cooked perfectly and we had Aki as our waiter. He did great job taking care of us!
We will be back the next time we are in Nashville. Thank you Skull's for a wonderful evening!

With the aid of Trip Advisor, we made dinner reservations for 9 PM on a Thursday. Upon arriving we were promptly seated and provided with iced water. We ordered a bottle of Californian red wine from their wine list which arrived quickly. Our Waiter ( named Wally) than took our food order which included appetizers ( wedge salad and lobster bisque) followed by our mains ( prime rib done medium rare and sword fish).
All of the food arrived quickly and the service was exceptional.
Both the prime rib and the sword fish were very tasty, tender and done perfectly.
Overall, a great evening and an exceptional dinner, thanks to the Chef and Waiter (Wally).
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
P.S.: great bottle of wine as well, as recommended by Wally.

My girlfriend and I came to Nashville for her birthday and I proposed to her, she said yes :) We were told Skulls would be impossible to get a table for dinner without reservations, we walked in and asked Anthony (maitre’d) if there was anything chance we could get a table, he kindly said we could wait around the bar but that he had no table available on a Saturday night the weekend before Valentine’s Day. 15 mins later after getting a glass of champagne and enjoying the piano man! Anthony came in clutch with a table and gave us the best ending to our special weekend. Our server (can’t remember her name she was so awesome, been there 4 years and will be rushing her bf to propose lol) gave us top notch service and made us feel at home. Great food, great atmosphere but the best thing about Skulls is the impeccable service and kind people who work from the kitchen to my boy Anthony at the front. Thank you for a great evening, we’ll be back!

We decided to come here for Christmas Eve dinner. We're planners and they only take reservations 2 weeks out. They have no parking, so do your research to find on street parking or a cheap parking garage.
We were greeted by the maitre d and seated promptly. Our table, we loved it, right next to the kitchen, we enjoyed watching the chef and his staff. Our waiter was awesome. The owner even expedites the meals and oversees the Kitchen while taking the time to chat with the guests. We started off with crab cakes, they we good, just a little dry. 2 crab cakes per order. We also had meatballs starter. A ground filet made into a 6 oz meatball topped with sauce and cheese. Two came in the order. These were excellent. I also ordered a bowl of lobster bisque. The bisque was superb. All 3 of us ordered the prime rib. 2 medium and 1 medium rare. All of them cooked perfectly served with a side of mashed redskins potatoes and diced squash. The portions of prime rib must have been 20 to 24 oz, they were huge. Everything here is top notch. One of the best meals ever. The dress code said "smart casual ", we dressed up but there were people in jeans. For those that never ate at places like this is on the high end of the dining experiences expect to pay $$$$. They do offer live entertainment too.

Spent one night in Nashville on our way to Illinois and was able to snag a reservation. (Reservations definitely recommended!) The food was delicious, and the ambiance was well suited for a speakeasy, but it really was the service that made Skull’s stand out. Perfectly attentive without overdoing it. It was obvious that the service staff works as a team and it was noticed. We were allowed to linger and enjoy ourselves and the phenomenal live jazz music without being rushed through our dinner. (Thanks, Jessie!) Just an all-around spectacular evening. Side note: Our table was perfectly situated for us to watch the musicians perform, which we thoroughly enjoyed as we were able to interact with them between songs. The space is long and narrow; if you’re sitting toward the back, you can certainly hear the music but might not be able to see the stage. If you want to be able to watch the musicians, I might ask for a table closer to the stage. I’m not sure this is something they can honor, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

We had a very good time at this restaurant, except for the server speaking negatively about my question regarding the ribeye entree, and talking me into the much 2nd most expensive entree selection. It turned out to be very tough and unenjoyable. She also recommended the most expensive entree to my wife...........LOL. Overall we still had a very good time, but I'm not sure that I'll go back.

I would like to share the terrible experience we had so others know. We had been told to “try getting a reservation” here and being we had a group of 12 for my wife’s 50th birthday I figured we would be in for a real experience and great dinner. I am beyond disappointed with how it went. We had an 8:15 reservation and after getting seated it was 30 minutes + before we were even asked what we would like to drink. Nice start to the night…I ordered 3 different bottles of wine, only to have our waitress take another 10-15 minutes before she went and asked a Mgr to get the bottles. Of course one of the three they said was out and blamed Covid…..what? It was Rombauer Chardonnay, available pretty much everywhere. Ok, no biggie just pick another bottle. We did and moved on. I had to ask 3 more times for another bottle of red as the first bottle was out before it made it back to me. Our waitress was more often nowhere to be found and we were pretty much her only table. This was on the 4th of July and after getting done with our apps, my wife slid outside to view the fireworks while we waited for our meals. Go figure, she runs into our waitress outside watching them as well….we finally get our entrees about 2 and a half hours after we got seated and with only about 10 other people remaining in the restaurant. Food was average at best, certainly not a good nor great meal and with everything else that did or didn’t go on depending upon how you want to look at it I can tell you it isn’t worth the hype. I hope others had a better experience.

Firstly, AUTOMATE your reservation system, what you do is so antiquated and you literally have to send an email at midnight on the 14th day or your chances are pretty much nill. And even if you do that if your party is large your chances are zero. Once you get the reservation read the rules as yes there are rules about your reservation including a charge for any minute you stay over your allowed time. That annoyed me enough to cancel but since all reviews say its a must and due to all the hype we did go (party of 7)...
(3) people got the prime rib, which was way overpriced and all (3) of them ate less than half of their meal. No sides come with it so that is all extra on top and (1) asked for butter and the waiter told her about a garlic whipped and she said ok, but what she failed to mention was the butter was an additional $4.00. Another got the filet which was no bigger than 4 oz though it says it was 8oz, it was the tinest piece and had zero flavor but she ate it b/c is was $50. (2) had seafood and it was all very salty, One person asked to sub the potatoes for risotto in her seafood dish, which the waitress said you could fo however that was also billed to us as a side. So no patatoes, but here is the risotto and here is another charge. The best dish for our group was the short ribs.
I am not sure what the hype is, maybe the story behind it? It does have an old mysterious feel and its a cool vibe in there, but a stop in for a drink is honestly all you need. Spend my money elsewhere as I love good food and I believe in paying for it but this was high prices with mediocre food.
Also I felt like they were being sneaky with the extra charge for butter. Ontop of the crazy high food prices do you really need to charge for "special" butter and should you not be upfront that there is a cost?!

We decided to have dinner here because it sounded interesting! We were actually surprised to find that this is a fine dining establishment. If you want outstanding food in Nashville, this is a must! Outstanding menu crafted by chef Mike along with delicious signature cocktails! This is a tightly run ship and food is brought promptly and beautifully presented. My only warning is the plates are truly hot!! They do warn you! The Lobster Bisque was do die for and my filet was perfect! Wonderful music with a jazz undertone.

As locals, it's not often we visit restaurants in the heart of downtown because of the tourists and amount of commotion, but for Skull's we always make an exception. Our party of 6 was seated promptly and our server Flavio was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable, letting us know all the specials for the day, which made our dinners choices so much more difficult (but in a good way)! We had such a wonderful experience (as usual) but Flavio went above and beyond, which greatly enhanced our dining experience in addition to the fantastic food. Thank you all and we will be seeing you again soon!

Really nice music and meal. Don't let the colorful history keep you from enjoying an excellent meal. Everyone enjoyed their steaks. Had the lobster bisque and salad then fillet, strip, and prime rib all were cooked well. One had the lamb and said it was superb.
Will definitely return.

We had a great dinner at Skull's. We enjoyed the change of music and pace of other bars/restaurants on Broadway. The atmosphere here was very upscale, jazz band was wonderful, service was great and the food was delicious. Make sure to make reservations in advance as the restaurant was packed on a Sunday night! One of our diners had an issue with her dish, the manager came over and both him and the waiter made it right. We would definitely recommend and come back if we are every in Nashville.

It was our first visit to Nashville. One afternoon we were strolling near our hotel down an alley with a New Orleans-like vibe. A line of people gathering in front of a jazz bar at one end of the street caught our attention. We quickly learned that the establishment dated back to 1948 and offered a unique combination of live jazz, fine dining, beer, wine, and cocktails. We decided to return shortly before its 5:00 p.m. opening and were fortunate to gain admittance. The extraordinary experience that ensued will remain deeply embedded in our souls. The speakeasy ambiance, with posters, pictures and artifacts of country and rock ‘n’ roll music celebrities who appeared at Skull’s over the decades contributed to our feeling of being transported to a bygone era of Nashville’s rich history. My wife enjoyed the house signature tender filet mignon Oscar, and I savored the delectable Chilean sea bass and diver scallops. Our desserts were divine. The jazz trio, led by an exuberant bassist, and reputed to be among the best in the City, featured a sultry guest singer. The friendliness and efficiency of the staff enhanced our enjoyment of the evening. Beth Caron, the general manager, Meredith, our waitress, Zack, a young staff member, and the bartender all strived to assure that we were comfortable and not rushed. We will be sure to dine at Skull’s again and remain for its 11:00 p.m. burlesque show at our next stay in Nashville.

Thanks to everyone else who reviewed this as it caused me to pick this for our last night in Nashville. This is such a cool place with awesome food, service and music! From the moment we stepped through the door until we left the service was impeccable. We saw the prime rib being delivered to another table and given that it's my husband's specialty to cook at home we never order it out - but it looked too good not to try. It was HUGE so we split it and the crab cakes and both were so tasty. Our fantastic waiter (shoot I cannot remember his name - want to say Cody) recommended a bottle of French red wine that was the perfect compliment to it. And I must say that given everywhere else we ate, for what we got this wasn't expensive at all, which was another great plus! And then the music started and we were treated to a quartet that was just phenomenal! We were fortunate to be seated right at the stage (we were asked if we'd like that or prefer to be back further but we opted to be there and were so glad we did) so we could enjoy the music and the musicians up close. This place has such an energetic vibe and we were able to sit and enjoy for almost 3 hours. Definitely would go again when back in Nashville and will recommend to all of our friends!

This was probably the most disappointing food stop on our trip through Nashville and Memphis. We were really excited but for the price- eh. The apps were great. We did the cheese board and the lobster bisque. Which, yes, very good. The drinks were below average, but the server and the server in training were really great! They exchanged my first drink when I decided to order a different drink, but I didn’t have the heart to complain about the second drink. It was a huge over-pour. I just baby sipped it. The meal was ok. I got the crawfish risotto, which I thought was pretty good but I wouldn’t go with gourmet level. My boyfriend got the duck, which was overly chewy, although he said the taste was good. We were there at 4:15 so there was no live music yet, but the jazz was waaaay to loud. I was sitting right under the speaker and it was giving me a headache. We just packed up halfway through dinner and left.
Overall I’d say average, but I was expecting much more.
