we invited our Family for a Sunday Lunch celebration. Service was good, loved the dressed up staff. They were happy to accommodate a few special requests and our drinks arrived in a timely manner. There was plenty of food on the buffets for everyone, especially German favorites such as rollmops and pickled herring salad, followed by beef rouladen and cabbage... More

A little pricey at $65. But a great selection and quality of food. Staff were very welcoming (left ours a tip). Entertainment was interactive and fun. I was dragged into Slapdancing and got a peach Schnapps for my time. Cocktails were delicious and well done. Left my coat behind. Voicemail left from staff immediately after and they kept it safe... We came here with some friends and could not belive we had not wondered into Germany. From the moment you enter you get that feeling. The waitresses are all in period costumes. Then you here the band playing and are entertained by two very talented performers. Then you find out about the buffet which has all kinds homemade German foods... More

We have been to the Cuckoo a few times a few years ago for their buffet lunch but hadn't been back because of the distance. We thought we will try the High Tea today (Sunday) to check out if it is good enough to have a function there in a few weeks time, The selection of food weren't bad. There... More

Hi Essendon52 and thanks for the review. I'm not sure how you have missed the pancakes however. The giant pancake pan (3.5 feet across) is situated in the middle of the dessert buffet with an attendant making them at every session (plus giving ice-cream scoops). The only thing I can think of is that the attendant may have stepped off... More

If you go to the Cuckoo expecting high-class German fare, you'll be disappointed. Face it, all-you-can-eat buffets are not renowned for their culinary sophistication. The Cuckoo is filled to the gills with tchotchkes that you'd see for sale at Teutonic tourist traps. The music and "let's all be jolly! emcee'ing by the owner at Christmas in July was what I'd... Hi Bukko - I absolutely love your review; it's fun, it's fair and you have absolutely encapsulated the whole purpose of what we aim top achieve here - just a good old communal celebration in a place a little out of this world where you can leave the daily stresses behind and, as you put it, just have a 'larf'.... A generous buffet with a selection to please all tastes. The Cuckoo has a special ambiance which takes you out of time and place into the woods of the old fairytales. Whether you are looking out the window at the treetops or basking in the warmth of the fire, the folksy old tunes and hearty food will lift your spirits.... More

I have been to the Cuckoo Restaurant three times in probably ten years and have always enjoyed the experience. It helps that I also love Olinda and never just do the restaurant. This year I incorporated it with a visit to Cloudehill and other times I do the shops. For $52 I was happy with the food and the entertainment.... More

Hi Sue and thank you for your reasonable and well thought out review. As you have pointed out, a buffet provides people with something to suit many different taste preferences. We do have a new line up of entertainers but at this stage have stayed with the tried and tested selection of songs, yodelling and cow bells that people love... More

Like many other people, I used to go to the Cuckoo years ago. Perhaps we were not so fussy about food then, but I found the buffet very ordinary last night. The steamed veg looked like it was out of a packet. The roast beef was overcooked and two small pieces were put on my plate begrudgingly. The beef olives... More

Hi Val and thanks for taking the time to write of your experience. I believe you are right in your comment that we were not so fussy about our food experience in the past. I'm sure that the hospitality industry struggles to keep up with the expectation cultivated by the many cooking shows on television in recent years. For a... More
