We were on our way to Nashville and stopped here for dinner. Location offers sandwiches, salads, pizza and deserts. They also offer side dishes such as potato salad, etc. I had the Reuben sandwich and family had the cheese pizza. It was all excellent. Location also has has gift shop with items such as tee shirts, candles, etc.

Heading to the Caverns for a show and needed a casual place for dinner. The Mountain Goat fits the bill.I had a wiseacre beer and the herbivore pizza. It was perfect! I have had salad's on other occasions and been very happy. No complaints. I will be back. The numbers are small though- might help if the could elevate them somehow so the servers have an easier time delivering the food.

Stopped on our way over the Cumberland Plateau on I-24 for some yummy food. Sammies were delish; would recommend choosing a side for the additional $2. The pickle was hiding beneath the sandwich and paper, but we found it at the end of our meal. The new renovation look awesome! Well done! Note: wear your coat inside, it was chilly in the dining area. (The restroom thermostat showed 58* but they had just opened for the day. )

Aside from the rude sign on the door (see photo) and the rude person taking orders, the food isn’t good. Clearly the rave reviews are from locals. My kids’ pizza tasted like cardboard and tomato sauce. My kale salad was served w dressing on the side as the only option....kale needs dressing to help break it down...and there were so many carrots I could barely find the kale. It was apparent that the goat cheese, blueberries, almonds and Craisins are too expensive so they fill the bowl with dry shredded carrots. My husband said his Reuben was good. The vibe was random: coffee shop/store/pizza place/sandwich place. It’s also very loud which was good for us with kids....but eventually got to be too much. It’s probably the best option on Monteagle but lower expectations from “its going to be good” to “they tried, A for effort”.

The goat certainly has very good sandwiches and pretty good pizza; however it does not merit 5* as compared to most 5* restaurants. It has a hip decor but nothing to write home about. You stand in line to place an order at the counter. My style of reviews takes into consideration, 1) the food, 2) the value, 3) the venue, 4) the service, 5) the overall feeling you get once you paid your bill.

We just pulled off the interstate at Monteagle, TN and found the absolute most fabulous market for lunch and A LOT of desserts! My goal Was to eat local and WOW! Mountain Goat Market did not disappoint!!!! My daughter has the Goat BLAT, one son had a beef pizza, another son had the Big Cheesy, my husband And I shared the Herbivore. Everyone loved their food. We ordered a variety of desserts to taste, blueberry macaroons, canolli, and the family favorite FRUIt TARTs! WOW WOW WOW! Not show is the Raspberry Cake, Macaroons, and Chocolate Brownie!!!!!!!! Also all delicious! I hope someday we pass through again!

This place is pretty solid and pretty much one of the few places to get that "local experience". It does take a little bit of figuring out when you first get there. There's a coffee bar right inside the door, or you can go back to the food counter in the back. There are a lot of options for a little place, mainly pizza and sandwiches/Sammies. Everyone in my group got something different and everyone liked it! They also have a nice pastry/dessert assortment. You can also grab beer from the cooler and enjoy it with your food there as well! They have 2 areas with local artisans and whatnot for sale. You can pay at either the coffee or food counter. Lots of cute little gifty things, and a giant table of fun socks if that's your thing. Aa well as locally sourced items such as jams and honey. I couldn't turn down the raspberry honey, it's delicious! I love the little porch swings inside by the fire, with drink holders and the middle even folds down for a little table/more drink holders. It's definitely a chill little place to relax and grab a bite or drink in a can.

My husband and I were driving back from Nashville to Georgia. I was starving but did not want “fast food” . I found this on trip advisor and said “ why not?!” . Like the other reviews said it was packed in the parking lot and almost completely full inside at 11:45 am BUT the line moved quickly , there was plenty of table turnover and my husband and I were both happy with our sandwiches. I wish I had time for the Wine slushee or the amazing deserts ! We will try those the next time when we stop ! P.S. my husband had a Reuben on sourdough and I have the goat blat on sourdough and it was great. Also the potato salad was AMAZING !

This eclectic blend of a deli, bakery, coffee shop and gift store blends delicious and fun! Every sandwich was mouth-watering! Our picky 9-year-old said the Grilled Cheese Cheese was “the cheesiest sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Yum!” Follow those with a special treat from the bakery. More yum!

I was passing through and stopped because of the good reviews. The setup is a little awkward, and the written menu over the counter is nearly illegible-but they had laminated menus as well if you could find one. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with goat cheese, and it was DELICIOUS. I don’t recommend the potato salad. I took two bites and threw the rest out. It was like a vague potato paste-like someone tried to make a super thick German potato salad and forgot the flavor. The desserts looked delicious and there was a substantial coffee menu, but I didn’t end up trying either because the line was long and I didn’t want to go back through again. The biggest drawback was that it was super crowded with very little seating. Really seems best for off hours or take out, so not a good place to stop if you’re passing through and want to get out of your car for a meal. The pizzas did look good though. So I might stop and get one to go the next time I pass through. The sandwich makes it worth revisiting.

We eaten at the Mountain Goat Market on several occasions. Every guest that visits us gets the treat of eating there. There's not usually a long wait, but they're always busy. The crew there are very service oriented and are quick to help you out if you need it. Inside or outside dining is available. For a quiet spot, try the dinning area just inside the main door. Delightful experience Every time. Every item on the menu that I've tried has been a hit.

Sandwich's are wonderful, atmosphere is open wide casual high top tables. Walk up to order your food and grab a table with a number. You can do some shopping for fun gifts while you wait. It's a little gem in this town worth the drive off the highway if you are hungry for something good and not fast food.

We were taking the back roads on a camping trip. The town where we intended to eat seemed "Closed Due to Covid." We continued to Monteagle (which is also just off the interstate highway) and we were glad we did! Our first attempt was at a BBQ place, but that was closed. The Mountain Goat Market looked more like, well, a market from the outside, so we almost didn't stop--which would have been a HUGE mistake. Great selection of foods to order (to include an awesome sandwich and pizza selection); wonderful desserts in the large, windowed cooler; about 30-feet of cooler space worth of drinks; neat, wood tables made from large spools for overhead wires; and, along the walls, you have a ton of unique items to look and/or purchase. Enjoy . . . we certainly did.

We've tried to eat at the Mountain Goat a couple of times while visiting Sewanee/Monteagle and finally were able to get in when the usual crowds had subsided. I love the Kale Yeah! and Pickle Pie pizzas. I'm sure their other menu items are just as good - can't wait for an opportunity to give them a try. Lot's of fun and interesting items in the market, too.

While there are lots of choices, in this case there are too many. It was a very popular and busy spot during our visit. The other 2 guests in my party enjoyed their sandwiches. They were both chicken. I tried the Philly and would certainly suggest staying away from it. Very dry and little seasoning. Well, I suppose I should try the desserts next time after I dine somewhere else? Maybe it was the young lady who took our order with the inability to smile or be cordial that set the mood? I'll dine elsewhere on my next passage.
