We had breakfast one morning, those in the party sampled much on the menu, and all were satisfied. Great portions, reasonable prices, and quick, efficient service. Bacon was the best I have had in ages, not an easy thing to get right.
Really wanted to try this place when in the area, but after reading all the reviews about inadequate pandemic protocols, decided call-in to go was the best route. Attempted to place an order three times, each time encountering rude and/or ineffective staff:
1 - "this...is the gift shop, not the restaurant, I'll transfer you" *click* (the touch tone menu has only has a gift shop/restaurant option, no way to connect directly to the restaurant)
2 - "can you call back in like 10 minutes?"
3 - "yeah, hold on, let me find a pen..." *1 full minute of background shuffling noise*click*More
The smokehouse restaurant service and food was not good. They don't practice Covid precautions. Some staff were serving food with masks around their neck but not on. No one used gloves.
The first night we were seated fairly quickly but ignored completely. The waiting staff...would walk right by and pointedly refused to make eye contact or say anything. Most places the staff will say "someone will be right with you" or something. They were cold and disinterested. After a long wait of being ignored we got up and left. No one said anything. I spoke to the owner on the way out and he didn't seem to care. He made some flippant remark about the waiting staff and let us leave with no reconciliation at all.
We tried the restaurant again Saturday night and ordered the brisket sandwich and full rack of ribs. Everything was super greasy. The sandwich bread quickly became saturated and disintegrated into nothing. The ribs were dry rub and over salted for my tastes. I barely ate a 1/4 of the ribs. I live in Tennessee and I know good dry rub ribs and these were not. Service was ok this night.
Finally, we had the Breakfast buffet Sunday morning and were disappointed again. Everything was cold. The grits seemed to have been stretched with water. There were 2 positives. The coffee was excellent as was the bacon.More
For years I've wanted to eat here but was never in the area at the right time. Not this time. Had the pleasure of experiencing it with my parents and husband. We were not disappointed at all!! All but the hubby had the opened faced...roast beef with mash potatoes and coleslaw. It was delicious!! The hubby had pulled pork with coleslaw and pinto beans. He to said it was very good. We will visit again in the future.More
Really great little place to stop off the interstate . The BBQ sandwich was good ,
but the fried green Tomatoes and pinto beans and onion were outstanding .
The service was outstanding as well .. My only complaint was the maze in the gift...shop was difficult to navigate , and directions to the dining room were difficult
to navigate . Would definitely return .More
Smokehouse Restaurant or Jim Oliver’s had decent food with good service but the place is kind of a “trainwreck”. It’s kind of like a Cracker Barrel meets a Lambert’s Cafe with a Louvin Brothers “museum” in the middle of the gift shop. It’s a room,...really, dedicated to this county music duo of yesteryear. It’s a bit unorganized and unprofessional. A lot of the reviews are mixed but if you find yourself in Monteagle, roll the dice and give ‘em a try.More

Thank you for your business and we appreciate your comments. The Louvin Brothers exhibit is undergoing an upgrade, and is a mess now until it’s put back together. The pandemic has significantly changed project schedules and redirected workers to higher priority issues. Businesses are overwhelmed...More
Excellent. We had the buffet which was very reasonable at $10.95. AND you get 10% off if you have a room at the Inn. It’s the best deal cause meals are all about $12-15 and you only get one serving. It is a big one...though.More

Barron, thank you so much for your 5 Star Review, we appreciate your business. Come see us again.
Waited 10 min to even be greeted. Then sat at table and waited AT LEAST 15 minutes for drinks or anything from anyone. Finally gave up and left. There were employees all around and its Sunday 3 waitresses. Rude and ridiculous
Had eaten several breakfast there and they were great. Went for lunch because I heard ribs were good.. I had Ribs with potato and beans. Wife had smoked brisket sandwich with slaw and crispy potato chunks. My ribs were burnt and 1/3 you couldnt slice...thru. beans bland and potatos the same. Wifes was chewy and potatos cold. Last there famous fried pie. We both took a bit and put down. Server was great and the beer was cold and reasonable price. Would I go back for lunch or dinner? NOMore
