We were passing through for a concert at The Caverns and decided to stop for some BBQ for a late lunch/early dinner. The Smokehouse sounded like “smoked BBQ”. As we pulled in, it is way behind and around the Smokehouse Motel. It’s a very odd...setup, maybe a food truck/trailer with a building attached and a patio out front. Ordered two pulled pork plates. One of us ordered onion rings and coleslaw as a side, the other order was pork plate with sliced tomatoes and cucumber salad. It seems the pork is not smoked at all, it had zero smoke flavor and maybe was cooked in a pot or roast pan in an oven? The coleslaw had zero flavor and oddly, the fresh veggies were lack of flavor as well. The onion rings tasted like they were from Kroger grocery freezer section. On a positive note, the portions are enormous, but lacking flavor, if you decide to finish your meal. They serve Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce in condiment cups, only one flavor, regular, but have hot sauce if you like. The staff was friendly. What if they had good food and revamped their recipes and quality control with real smoked BBQ, they could probably be killing it with business!! I can’t imagine a visit here from Chef Gordon Ramsey.More

The service, live music, and food were all great! We really enjoyed walking to the restaurant from our hotel room. We had the pulled pork and smoked sausage.

We went with another couple with high hopes given some of the other reviews……but the place is dingy and dirty…….the staff was friendly and attentive but the kitchen appears to be a food truck plugged into the building with 6 people working inside of it,...and apparently they need hairnets as My wife’s salad and my fried pie both had hairs in them. We had the fried okra , BBQ, Brussels sprouts and Hamburger steak……Good size portions, but luke-warm and lacking any seasoning of any kind…..everything needed salt, except the coleslaw which was overly salty. Dinner for 4 was $83……plus another $16 for pies. They had a good crowd, and good entertainment with a good sound system at the right volume……just need to clean it up, season your food and put on some hair nets!More

It was okay, food was cold and wasn’t even smoked. Everything was definitely canned/packaged food. I ordered the BLT and it was okay, just cold. Fried okra was the best thing we got. Staff was super nice there!

I cannot speak to the quality of the food, because we eventually had to walk out. Sat for 15 minutes waiting on a menu. Made direct eye contact with several employees and they acted like we were not even there. A couple sat after us...and were waited on immediately. That was the final straw.More

If you check your expectations at the door, you'll be fine. Don't expect a perfectly-cooked pork chop or lightly-breaded okra, and this is a good spot for dinner. Also don't expect wine, but there is beer, and this IS advertised. Do expect quality home-grown music...on Saturday evening. Really talented trio played early, and an also-talented singer/songwriter/guitar guy followed. These poor people lost their very cool restaurant/country store to a fire, and the patio made a terrific alternative dining spot....really terrific. We could not, however, even venture a guess as to why they need to serve water in a styrofoam (STYROFOAM??!) cup, and serve the pretty good food on paper plates with super cheapo plasticware. Like, I know your other place burned down 10 months ago, but don't you need to buy new silverware and glasses anyway? It definitely put a dent in the dining experience. Server was attentive, kind, and quiet (shy?). He did just fine. Food was - again - pretty good. Actually, while the okra and fries were ok, the smoked sausage was superb. Best thing of the night. Oh, the Brussels Sprouts were also VERY good - I almost forgot! In a world where climate change is real, and feared, why are you guys using throw-away dishes, and STYROFOAM cups? And no recycle bins anywhere on this property. Still, we'll be back.More

We actually like this new building better than the old one. Comfortable seating and welcoming. Even have out door seating but you can still enjoy the music

The new location is NOT comparable to the original Smokehouse. We were served small frozen hamburger patties with unseasoned half cooked fries. The place is COLD and very drafty. Fried pickles, two cheeseburgers, an order of brussel sprouts with BOTTLED sodas was $60! Never again....Don't waste your time. Oh and the food was served on paper plates.More

My husband had the smoked sausage with peppers and onions. I had the grilled pork chops. My husband said the smoked sausage was good. My pork chops were simply “ok”. Flavor was lacking but they were moist. We both got baked beans and cole slaw....The baked beans tasted like they are straight out of a can with absolutely no flavor at all and the cole slaw was room temperature. I saw signs up that state they have recently suffered a fire and perhaps they are still in the process of rebuilding which is why I hate to leave a poor review. However, at the same time, I still want to leave an honest review. The server was friendly though.More

Cheap gas station food on paper plates and bottled sodas, no glass, no ice, no straw. A hamburger steak that was just a plain hamburger on a paper plate with cole slaw that was just lettuce and Mayo mixed - yuck! All for $13.95 -...not to mention that I added onion and peppers - a total of 5 of them to be precise for $1.95 more. Sorry your business burnt, that’s if you didn’t do it yourself. People are eating out too for the first time during a pandemic and customers don’t owe you anything especially for over priced cheap food. There are other ways!!! This was not right at all what they are doing. This is not what it used to be if you’ve ever been here before-beware. They need to close the doors or do it the right way. No one deserves to be taken advantage of. My son had the frozen fries you’d get at the grocery but came out burnt with no salt. My husband had a salad with bbq that was placed on top of it - gross again … they advertise music on the weekends but not even a radio played and it was so quite you could hear a toothpick hit the floor. They were dirty too with busted out windows to look out. No one to complain to, as it was run by a group of 16 year old kids that are just happy they have a job to go to and just being kids doing the best they can more than likely under paid from what we experienced here. They were not at fault here at all. Overall very respectful group - just not impressed at all with the business, how the owner is running it, and with all of that said we won’t be back or recommend that anyone stop here. It is not what it used to be.More

Seems like it was once great, but today all the food seemed to come straight from the freezer with zero seasoning. Our fries were not even salted. Incredibly overpriced for the quality of food.

Restaurant burned down so no longer any food choices there. Stayed in one of the cabins which were dated but overall was fine and clean but cabin had a very strong smoke smell. Perhaps the smoke smell was from the fact that the cabin had...a fireplace that could be used that didn't vent properly.More

Unfortunately the restaurant burned down! We went to this location specifically to eat & shop there. We already had the room & it was like stepping back into the 50s. We weren't real impressed with room at all. Bathroom- tub looked like it had been...painted & was flaking; toilet was not secured to floor; faucet had calcium deposits (?). Comforter had pink 'lumps' but linens looked like they were clean. Really this place just needs renovations.More

Reminds me of the Cracker Barrel chain with shopping for specialty items (bbq sauces of many types, candy, jars of pickles and quail eggs, etc) and a bit of museum for looking at old stuff. Music 6:30p on Friday and Saturday with no cover charge....Had dinner early, menu was varied and a buffet for $14.95. Waitstaff was very pleasant, food was average with choice of two sides. Large variety of beers and soda but NO wine. Musician was okay and started playing her original music... we left as it had been a long day driving. Will try elsewhere if back in Monteagle.More
