First up, don't be put off by the ambience. This place looks like a lunch cafe for office workers. The food however is quintessentially Hungarian and probably better than other more traditional Hungarian restaurants in Sydney, many of which are also extremely good themselves. My Hungarian friends swear by it, and I understand why. If you like Central European food,... More

Great homely food. Alway good for family dinners. Schnitzal, creamed spinach and gnocholi are our go to dishes!

Food at Gundel is definitely not for the diet conscious. It is serious comfort food with items such as Matzo Ball Soup with large Matzo Balls, Vienna Schnitzel, creamed Spinach, Veal Shanks to name a few of the delicacies we devoured. Then of course there is the Pancakes and other Hungarian Coronary desserts. It is delicious but you should then... More

Make sure you are hungry, when you go to this Hungarian Restaurant. The dishes are very generous in size, make sure you try the Langos( hungarian garlic bread), soup ( the green pea soup is to die for),and this is before the main course and desert. I can't wait to go back.

This local restaurant doesn't pretend to be gourmet. In fact its quite the opposite. It fills the need of the local Expat European Community to be reminded of home cooked comfort food with all the usual inclusions. Chicken Soup and Matzo Balls, Schnitzel, creamed Spinach. Langos etc. No surprises except the Hungarian speaking Chinese Waitress. If you can master two... More

An excellent menu of Hungarian specialties for every taste from that cuisine. Reasonable prices, kind waiting very helpful staff. Family friendly atmosphere. It would be difficult to find an equal even in Budapest (I was there last June).

Good food, pleasant atmosphere, good service - what more can one ask for? The only thing missing is good company and we had that as well. In my opinion the food we had was 'honest' food at 'honest' prices. Certainly not 'cheap and cheerful', nor extravagant. What I look for in a night out with friends. The menu, if it... More

Had the prawns in garlic and my husband had the chicken and both were great! And the coffee and bread were awesome! The service was very good and what we liked the most is that they open everyday until at least 9pm!
