We're new to the area and thought we'd drop in for lunch today. Neither of the two staff behind the bar looked up when we came into a small bar area. They then moved into a back bar. After waiting five minutes without even a "be with you soon" or any acknowledgement that we were even there we left. Would... More

After moving to East Aberthaw, this Inn has become the local for two members of my family and they took us there for a meal after a hard days renovating on their new property. We were assured it didn't matter we were in our casual clothes and were indeed warmly received by staff and locals. That said, the quality of... More

Was in the area after arriving at Cardiff Airport and the Blue Anchor Inn was given a good review on Eat out Vegan Wales so we went for lunch. They didn't have a specific vegan menu but they were extremely accommodating and adapted a meal for me of roasted veg in a curry sauce with rice and it was delicious.... More

Took a special trip after a great first experience here earlier in the year, this time booking for lunch on a Saturday with a visiting friend, hoping to impress. This is a great place, lots of atmoshphere, old and charming. We had a nice welcome, but that's where it went downhill this time. It was fairly busy and only three... More

Went as part of a family meal, around 20 of us. Service was good however the waitress looked as though her dog had just been run over. Starters were limited not much variety. Chicken was dry so a few of us complained, to be told there was no chicken left & this was replaced with fatty lamb. Under seasoned vegetables... More

Such a beautiful old pub, with a great atmosphere and so cosy especially in the winter months with the fires always lit. The food is good and the prices are good too. Always a good selection of real ales too. Lovely place to take visiting family or just for a nice afternoon/evening drink.

The Blue Anchor serves good food without pretention, accompanied by an excellent wine list and good beers and ciders. The upstairs restaurant is excellent good atmosphere and great food. Can thoroughly recommend it.

Very pretty thatched Inn with lots of smaller rooms downstairs and a large dining room upstairs. The three course Sunday lunch was good value and very nice. Will visit again soon as enjoyed lots.

22 of us for Birthday celebration. All our meals were delicious, all brought out together, excellent service all round by extremely happy friendly staff. I had the Trio of Fish to start which in fact was the nicest fish dish I've ever had, followed by Steak, asked for it rare, it was spot on and so very tender. My husband... More

Haven't been here for many years but it was an appropriate place to take a friend for lunch. Very friendly and welcoming with a nice selection of beer. We only wanted a light lunch and as a ploughman's was not available my friend settled an the cheese and pickle (I think it was) baguette and had a small portion of... More

Description
The Blue Anchor Inn was one of the first pubs in South Wales to produce quality bar meals back in the 1980's. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, winning awards including the South Wales Food Pub of the year for four years,2013, 2011, 2008 and 2006. We are Egon Ronay recommended and are included in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs guide since 2007(the only South Wales entry in the guide), as well as the AA Pub Guide 2013, where we appear as Pick of the Pubs for the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as food who could forget real ales! we have always been a forerunner in the promotion of real ale in South Wales. We were the first winner of the CAMRA pub of the year award back in 1983 and we have maintained our position to the present day by being included in the current 2013 CAMRA Guide.
