I don't do many reviews but I felt I had to write this one!! We visited last Friday evening for a meal with a voucher deal, very often on these deals you tend to go the once and never return but on this occasion we were blown away with the food AND the service we recived so much that I personally... Food is always amazing, top quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Service is good but can be slow at times. Wouldn't recommend for particularly fussy eaters as the menu is quite specialist although there is usually something to suit everyone especially for the main course.

The food was superb !!! full of flavor and looked great. I would give them 5 stars but the service did not match the level of the food which was a shame. However, the food more than compensated for the service. We will be back, but to make this a great restaurant they need more professional staff to run the... More

Although some meals were rated gluten free there were others which could easily have been adapted, eg, by missing certain ingredients off, biscuits etc. The worst thing was being charged 65pence for gluten free bread when other guests had free bread!!!!

We rang on the 20th December to book a table for eight (8) people on the 28th Dec 16. The lady who answered the phone said she didn't have the diary so could we call back tomorrow.....(take my number and ring us - never heard of that) so we decided to email. To date (27th Dec) no email to confirm... More

Wedding reception the Caer Lan was fully booked so we booked a room for one night in no 7 Church street, my only criticism was the price of a pint of bear Peroni £4-75 a pint which i thought was a bit steep and he bar closed at 9-30pm but the staff in the evening and at breakfast were very... Dear Pete, Thank you very much for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you were pleased with your accommodation. Sorry about the bar service, that must have been a misunderstanding as 9.30 is the time for last orders on food, not drinks. I'm going to double check how you could have got this information. Hope to see you... More

Food was excellent I would give it 9 / 10 however due to the absolutely hopeless front of house and service which in itself was about 2/10 I would only go to 6/10 The staff had no idea needs a manager who knows how to run a restaurant. It would be actually nice not to have to ask for glasses... More

Dear Mr J, Thank you for visiting #7 Church Street. I have to say, we find your review quite harsh. First of all, one of the Owners (myself) of the restaurant was serving you during the whole evening. If I can remember well, we checked on your table regularly, I was doing the courtesy checks after the courses have been... More

2nd December 2016 - Dinner. Warm welcome. Nice table with plenty of room for 4 of us. Very friendly service. Food seriously good - so much better than our last visit some months ago. Starters of fish cakes and pigeon - both excellent. Mains - roast lamb rump, and confit of goose leg - both absolutely top class. Creme brulee... More

We stayed for a night & had a cosy room above the restaurant overlooking the mall. Our heater wasn't working but it was rectified quickly. Breakfast was good. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we're told the service times. Would have been good to have a menu for the restaurant in the room to promote the restaurant. Parking was... More

Description
Amble amongst the eclectic independent shops of Monmouth's Church Street and you will stumble across Bistro Prego. This atmospheric restaurant has been awarded its second AA Rosette in as many years, establishing a reputation as a destination for food-savvy visitors and indigenous foodies alike. Prego is fortunately situated to offer diverse regional produce, wild foods and allotment-harvests. For Steve Robbins, head chef and Proprietor, local and seasonal is central to the Mediterranean cuisine which inspires him. The menu is varied and aromatic: as soon as the doors open on spring days and summer evenings, tempting smells drift onto the pretty, cobbled street, infusing this quiet corner of Wales with Mediterranean savour. The frequently- changing menu, includes house favourites such as Tagliolini with prawns, cherry tomatoes and garlic, slow-cooked pork belly, and local game. Reputed for the delicious puddings and Welsh cheese-board, recent additions will also appeal to those wishing to enjoy eating out without compromising either their waist-line or enjoyment. Prego also offers bed and breakfast. This evolving restaurant is one to note whether you are looking for a special lunch, pre-theatre meal, coffee and biscotti whilst watching the world drift by, or a relaxing over-night stay.
