This restaurant, formerly Prego's, has everything going for it. Nice ambience, historic town, good service, But one can only speak as one finds. Pigeon breast tagliatelle seemed worth trying, so did the leek soup. The soup was fine, if a little rich, but the main course should have mentioned the salt - there was lots of it. One assumes that... More

We popped in to have a coffee whilst visiting the area. Friendly welcome and good coffee, so first impressions favourable. However, this rapidly changed. A lady came in with her little dog who she had sat on her knee. She was brought her coffee but also a little espresso cup filled with milk foam for her dog which she then... More

Eight of us pitched up on spec at 7 Church Street having had a disappointing evening the night before at what was recommended as a great gastro pub (The Inn at Penault, very average food). At 7 they were pretty fully booked but went out of their way to make room for us with only a half hour delay. The... More

This is a place just starting to emerge as the place to eat in Monmouth itself. The menu is varied and from produce reasonably sourced close by. Prices are good, for both food and drink. Service is efficient and friendly. It is sometimes busy, so may be worth booking in advance. It is on the tastecard offers, and sometimes on... More

Great food & service. Such a shame we arrived to the staff sitting on upturned crates smoking by the entrance.... then when we left having had a lovely night we were greeted by a further mound of cardboard boxes & chef sat on the steps half way along the car park smoking! Its all in the detail folks & this... More

We had a pre-theatre meal at No 7 last night. The food was delicious and our overnight stay was perfect. Our room was comfortable and spotless and the breakfast was lovely. The welcome was warm and services spot on. We hope to return and would highly recommend.

Stayed in the hotel and dined in the restaurant last night.Four of us ate and we all commented that is was one of the best meals we had ever had.The food was cooked to perfection, presented well and the service was superb, nothing was too much trouble.Recommend without reservation! The hotel rooms are excellent value.Spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well maintained.A little "quirky",... More

Enjoyed a superb meal for four at this excellent restaurant- food is cooked with real passion and excellence - is probably the best in Monmouth. It's not cheap but for the quality of cooking it represents good value. We enjoyed great salmon and beef dishes with some excellent desserts. Having had an irritating service problem last time, it was spot... More

Stayed for one night in early March. Large public car-park is out back (busy when we arrived Saturday mid-afternoon but found a space OK). Time your arrival and departure right and you can avoid/minimise parking charges. Hotel is centrally located, amongst shops, pubs, theatres etc. I would describe #7 as a "restaurant-with-rooms". Our evening meal was exceptionally good. Interesting and... More

Description
Amble amongst the eclectic independent shops of Monmouth's Church Street and you will stumble across Bistro Prego. This atmospheric restaurant has been awarded its second AA Rosette in as many years, establishing a reputation as a destination for food-savvy visitors and indigenous foodies alike. Prego is fortunately situated to offer diverse regional produce, wild foods and allotment-harvests. For Steve Robbins, head chef and Proprietor, local and seasonal is central to the Mediterranean cuisine which inspires him. The menu is varied and aromatic: as soon as the doors open on spring days and summer evenings, tempting smells drift onto the pretty, cobbled street, infusing this quiet corner of Wales with Mediterranean savour. The frequently- changing menu, includes house favourites such as Tagliolini with prawns, cherry tomatoes and garlic, slow-cooked pork belly, and local game. Reputed for the delicious puddings and Welsh cheese-board, recent additions will also appeal to those wishing to enjoy eating out without compromising either their waist-line or enjoyment. Prego also offers bed and breakfast. This evolving restaurant is one to note whether you are looking for a special lunch, pre-theatre meal, coffee and biscotti whilst watching the world drift by, or a relaxing over-night stay.
