My wife and I have loved the food at the Castle and have always found it to be of a very high standard. Unfortunately, there must have been a change of chef or some other problem behind the scenes. On Saturday the 12th November 2016, we went for a meal, fully expecting it to be up to the usual high... More

Lovely meal and friendly waitress. The bar area was occupied by some lively parties but we were offered a quieter seating area and it was fine. The food was nice, although my medium to well done steak was more medium to rare. Very attentive staff though.

It can get noisy in the bar sometimes but we like to think that the Rugby Teams add to the charm. Apologies for the over sight on the steak - if this was last Friday, we were extremely busy and we can perhaps forgive chef one error on this occasion. More

I don't usually review places but after reading some of the bad reviews I thought I'd speak out. I have been back here for the Sunday lunch a few times now with friends and it's been good every time. The gravy is bang on but what makes me want to come here over other places is the dish of roasted... More

Well having read other reviews i think we must have been in a different hotel. Upon arrival, with 3 dogs we were warmly welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was large, cleanand very comfortable and had full bathroom. Enjoyed dinner in the bar and breakfast was just right. 4 days on and staff were just as friendly and helpful.... More

Went here for Sunday lunch. Had to wait outside on table till they'd sorted everything out for us as booked table wasn't ready . Glum looking staff. Starters came out all at different times . Beef in roast pretty much rare . Table next to us sent there's back due to the beef being too rare . One of our... More

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal with us. I believe that your table was ready but the name on the booking caused (brief) confusion. We serve our Roast Beef medium Rare as is the convention but will cook it to Well Done if requested. It does not sound as if this was our finest hour however... More

Three of us came here for a mid-week lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly service, a good choice of food, delicious meals and a nice pint of beer. We'll be back!

The serving staff were very friendly at this restaurant and we enjoyed a family meal here. Some of the seating was benches which wasn't a very comfortable way to spend the evening! I think a few more veggie options on the menu would have bumped this up to a 'very good'. The building itself is beautiful and fun just to... More

As a fellow veggie I would agree that more choice would be nice but we are short supply in this part of the world and demand establishes the supply of choice. The benches are in the bar & cwtch areas, dining chairs are available in the restaurant, I'm not quite sure about the wedding business. It is our policy to... More

Hotel seems quite nice and decor was lovely. We had drinks in the lounge area but the seating was not that comfortable. Free WiFi was a bonus.

Limited on a Sunday evening for places to eat nearby so drove 20 mins to here. Both had the steak burger with bacon and cheese. Very filling but burger was greasy and made the bun soggy. The chips soaked in dripping were nice. Garlic bread wasnt that good. Prices were reasonable. Couple of local ales were very good. Restaurant was... More

Like the previous reviewer, had great memories of when we were last here and couldn't wait to come here again whilst we were in the area. What a disappointment. Very average food completely overpriced, no atmosphere, what a shame, shame, shame. We won't be returning here.

Again, really sorry about your poor experience, I suspect that this was the same day as the previous review and it shows that as they say you are only as good as you last service. Our food is generally well received, this was an off day - no excuse but we will strive to ensure that there is no repeat... More
