We had heard glowing reviews of this restaurant from various friends. We stopped by on a Saturday morning with family, for a lite breakfast / lunch. The wait staff was friendly, although our waitress was new and could not answer any questions we asked of the menu items. We had a collection of different items, pancakes, sandwich wraps, artichoke dip, and coffee / tea. The food was O.K. but nothing outstanding. The service was O.K. but nothing outstanding. I was disappointed there are absolutely no views of the river from inside the restaurant. I have nothing bad to say about the restaurant, but it was underwhelming after all we had been told.

This delightful restaurant offers a variety of delicious morsels and succulent cocktails. Highly recommended for anyone who can bear the high temperatures of the restaurant's atmosphere. It has become clear, after several patronages, that Tug's ownership cares more about a slight, ephemeral differential in economic prosperity than the comfort of its customers or staff. On a regular basis, Tug's operates at temperatures exceeding 85 F. This is a repugnant abuse of power and lack of consideration by the owners and remedies must be taken to improve the comfort of their environment.

We were at the River Inn for the evening and decided to use our food voucher at Tugs. The appetizers were amazing. We had the Asian lettuce wraps and spinach artichoke dip with flatbread. Both were superior. We both ordered fish and chips as our entree. It was nothing special. Not bad but not outstanding. Finished with the chocolate cake which was also good but nothing special. We will be back but will probably dine on appetizers.

Terrible first time! My boyfriend and I just visited Tug’s for the first time and we will not be back. When we arrived at the restaurant there was only two other tables being occupied, each on two different ends of the restaurant. We were walked around into a corner, so we asked to be seated near the window instead. We waited at least 15 minutes as three other tables in our section were seated, served drinks, and one of the tables had received their appetizers. Our server had passed our table several times to aid the other guests. Since there was no one else serving tables around I decided to get up and ask the hostess who our server was. She apologized for the wait, because she recognized when we came in, and headed to our server who was the only server on our side of the restaurant. Draven, the server, then took over 5 minutes to come to our table to apologize without introducing himself to take our orders. We ordered three appetizers and two entrées, so we asked that the entrées come out after the appetizers. All of our food came at one time. Then, we had an issue with my food that we could not get mitigated because our server had not been back since serving our food, not even to refill our drinks. After twenty minutes of my boyfriend and I waiting for service, his blackened chicken pasta was cold, my egg rolls were extremely dry(which was my issue), and we had not received refills. At this point, we’re both upset, so I have to get up again to ask a hostess if we could speak with the manager because no one came by our table. When Courtney, the manager, came to our table she seemed apologetic at first. While talking to Courtney, Draven magically appears to pick up our two EMPTY appetizer plates now. But as I was explaining that the Draven had only been to our table twice(once to take our order and again to bring our food) in the past 75 minutes she cut me off mid-sentence in defense of the server explaining that he had came back after they messed up our fish as if we weren’t being truthful. I tried to tell her that our table did not have fish, but she continued talking anyway. So, my boyfriend interrupted her and reiterated that it was not our table, so that I could continue explaining everything that was an issue. She then went on to say that the server never acts that way, and that he’s usually there best server as if we’re not being truthful. She offered to take off my egg rolls and another appetizer as well as give us desserts. After all of that my boyfriend who had only had two bites of his blackened chicken pasta felt disrespected as well as I did. So, he just asked for one to-go box for his pasta, and the check. We will not be back.

To preface all of this, I really don’t like to leave bad reviews of restaurants, because as a chef myself, I understand how difficult the job can be, especially now during the pandemic where staff is short and hours are long. What I will not abide, however, is select attention and apathy toward a customer’s experience - it is ok to fail sometimes if you at least try your best… Nobody was trying their best here. Place was busy, I get that, but the place is always busy. I know this because I used to be the executive chef of Paulettes, the fine dining restaurant owned by the same hotel across the street. That’s a whole other story. Despite being busy, we were set rather expeditiously which was nice, but looking back now, I would have rather sat up front by the host stand so that I wouldn’t have the expectation that food was coming. I ordered the cheddar BBQ burger with a beyond patty, my wife ordered the spinach artichoke benedict. We waited for that order for an hour and seven minutes. I kept an eye on my watch after the first half hour went by. My cheddar BBQ burger showed up without BBQ sauce, my wife’s spinach and artichoke benedict showed up with ham and no spinach or artichoke, raw English muffins, hard boiled eggs, and next to no hollandaise. But none of this mattered because we didn’t have any silverware and my wife took it upon herself to get up and go to the server station and grab two setups on her own. But hey, the Bloody Mary was good! Throw in a ten minute fire alarm and a server who just didn’t notice any of this, and you have a pretty accurate picture of our experience. We still tipped 20% because that’s just what you do. But as a chef, I would have some notices of termination to fill out. Should’ve known not to come there in the first place with intimate knowledge of how some of the management regards its workers. Ok I’m done.

We just returned from having dinner at this restaurant. We ate outdoors to enjoy the fresh air. My wife & I ordered a cup of gumbo, and fried catfish, sweet potato fries, and hush puppies. It took over 20 minutes to get the gumbo, the rice was uncooked. Then the catfish entree came. The breading was thick, and the catfish so thin, it was nearly invisible. The hush puppies and sweet potato’s were hard as a rock, and cold. While there, we seen other patrons sending their food back. No “ how was your meal” or any follow-up By the waiter. I had to go inside to ask our waiter for our bill. All in all, don’t waste your appetite, and money.

We were passing through Memphis and have stayed here many times but when we had brunch at Tugs Saturday morning May 13th on the outside porch the atmosphere seamed different. I now know what it was after the SHOOTING THAT NIGHT. What a disappointment !!!!!!!! It did not have the same "sophisticated atmosphere with a small and friendly team that the Boutique hotel that has the highest quality service "

Wanted to show our Thanksgiving visitor downtown Memphis and Mud Island. Tugs came to the rescue on a cold, rainy afternoon when we needed lunch. With a view of the Mississippi out the window, we had a homey experience. It was a cozy place. Friend ordered gumbo and it drew a thumbs up. I had eggs and French toast, just comfort food. The service was fine and the prices reasonable. It hit the spot fro us. There are not many places to eat on Mud Island. This one works—at least for lunch.

Had an awesome time. Fried pickles were the best we've had(and we've ate a lot of fried pickles) Great drinks for a great price. And service was top notch. Chris F took care of us. Would highly recommend. And we'll be back.

We came around lunchtime on a Saturdayand ate off the brunch menu. We started with the southwestern egg rolls, which were really good. For entrees I had the catfish, which came with fries, coke slaw and hush puppies. It was all seriously good. Very well seasoned. My wife had the pan seared salmon, which she enjoyed, but was a little undercooked based on how she had requested it. For drinks, we both had the mud island margarita. We wanted other drinks, but they were out of so many ingredients, we had to settle for something simple. That was a bummer. Service was good from Jessica, our server and bartender, but they definitely needed a couple more servers on shift for the crowd that was in there. Parking was in a lot behind the restaurant. Tou can go down to Greenbelt Park and take a stroll next to the river.

Breakfast Sunday, Oct 16. Seated in bar. Our server was friendly and VERY talkative. I observed her move through her area and she was very talkative with everyone. Our breakfast order took a long time to arrive. Both meals were pretty much room temperature. There was confusion about the gravy with my meal and I requested more. Server came back with gravy in a very small plastic condiment cup. Had to request coffee and water refills. Portions were small. Pancakes were good. This is a beautiful restaurant in a nice location. I would not return.

While this time at tugs was tasty and the service was friendly, I am very disappointed. Only one server was wearing holiday attire which is very upsetting. Further, we were informed that management was the reason for this!! This management failing to allow employees to at least be fun in conjunction with the unnecessary price increases and lack of pay raises for employees is despicable. It’s no wonder tugs has been empty lately. Management has drained the fun.

Their food is good, not outstanding but good. We were there for lunch and had a club sandwich, and burgers. The service was exceeding slow and it did not concern the waiter at all. Had to hunt him down to ask for drink refills, and had a long, long wait for our order to arrive. This little bar and grill has great atmosphere, with an out door patio, and great views of the river. But their service needs a lot of improvement.

Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant! My family and I recently enjoyed an amazing experience at Tugs. The ambiance is very welcoming. Amazing drinks, food and even better service. Our server, Anna, was extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The service was UNMATCHED. Anna truly cared about our experience, and she would do that same for you. The food was absolutely amazing. Unquestionably the best meal we have had in awhile. Highly recommend! If I leave you with one recommendation when you try this place: ask for Anna!
