Food wasn't great and seems overrated... its basically self service and the fried stuff seemed quite dry inside.
To be fair, I'd recommend the fried shrim tacos and the grilled salmon with the garlic butter.
Still a good place to eat fried fish, shrimp etc, we only didn’t really like the frog legs, surprisingly good enough wine from cans, price is only thing that is a little too high for what you get, really special atmosphere and decorations
Stopped in the Flying Fish for lunch on a Saturday and it was great. Greeted us at the counter where you order with a smile and asked if we needed any help picking out our lunch. Lot's of choices from grilled and fried fish to...oysters, shrimp and my favorite frog legs. Definitely worth a visit.More
wanted a quick lunchtime meal...so we split the Grouper Po-Boy and it was as good of a Grouper sandwich as I can remember having. Fries were crisp and hot and good...and the two hushpuppies that came with it were great with a little hot sauce....Also got the thin sliced deep fried jalapeno chips...enough for 2...nothing fancy but a good little side to have along with the meal. Would certainly come back here.More
My family and I went April 7 we ordered what we usually order grilled trout ❤, grilled salmon❤ and fish tacos❤, they include grilled vegetables and what you would call a bean rice mix.
Now to be clear we been eating here for years, I've...left reviews about the Flying Fish before which were great 4+.
But they've done something the bean rice mix recipe (whatever they call it) my wife was the first to notice the change.
She first thought that it was Rancid. They're putting so much beer in it that it tastes like bottom of the trash can old dark beer, when I inquired at the counter the guy was a little smug and said they "haven't changed anything" and "that the guy that makes it has been there since the restaurant opened"
well that's all well and good
BUT, it's a good idea every now and then as a restaurant to sample your own food !
It did not taste right it's way too old beer tasting and they have more or less ruined what used to be consistently great.More
It is anice food stall, you can have a beer or soft drink and a lot of freid sea food, calamari rings to fried oysters and fish. You also can go with jambalaya and gumbo, the jamba nicely hot, but for a higher level various...chili sauces are available.
Next time again...More
Had the tilapia. Needed more spice but that is just a personal preference. The fish was fresh and tasted good. Hubby had the fried shrimp and he enjoyed it. Tables and booths both available for seating. Interesting decor too. Fun place.
We always look for local food and catfish in Memphis is the thing. This place is a few blocks ofd Beale St and worth it! Catfish, bbq shrimp, rice n beans, slaw; only complaint is I was too full to order more food. Super casual,...order at the counter, canned beer and pre-made margaritas available.More
Dropped in on the off chance. Big ol' place, but not too, too busy. It was Thanksgiving Eve, so I expect many folks were either at home or busy getting home. But hey! We had a darned good meal Can't remember now the details, but...everything we had was just so. We focused on fish but I seem to recall there were other options, so don't be put off by the name if you're not a fish lover.More
Okay, I'm a New Yorker, so maybe not the guy with the most experience on this. But seriously, the grilled catfish was unbelievably good. Cooked perfectly, nice clean taste. "Snappy" seasoning was delicious. Nice hush puppies, nice beans n rice. Surprisingly good grilled squash.
Oh...and the Cajun Combo was so good. Frog legs, gator tots and...what was it, crawfish gumbo. I can't remember, I ate it all so fast. (But remembered to take a picture.)
In town less than 2 weeks and ate there 3 times, need I say more?More
Was on Beale, and tired of eating BBQ. Walked down Second St. and found the Flying Fish. Had he catfish, shrimp basket. It was really good. The skewered shrimp with vegetables was also good. Nice little spot!
We are always in the mood for good seafood when traveling and this place hit the spot! They had everything you could think of on the menu! It did NOT disappoint! We both had the platter with catfish, fried oysters, and fried shrimp. Hushpuppies and...fries too! YES!More
