I stopped into Payne's BBQ in Memphis as I was passing through the other day. To some, the neighborhood and even the building aren't anything special but don't judge a book by its cover. This place is awesome. Chopped pork sandwich with a mustard based cole slaw ..... Pure Heaven! Don't miss out!!

The pulled pork and slaw burger is hands down the best burger I have ever eaten. It's genuine Memphis bbq! Worth the ten minute trip from Beale Street. You will be thinking of the food long after your meal!

Great BBQ pork sandwich. A mustard based slaw was unusual but tasty. Unique location and not easy to find but well worth the visit .

Excellent as usual! We had a regular sized pork shoulder sandwich and a small order of those hard to find. 'rib tips' Everything was delicious! Thank You Ronald and Candice!

I have been a regular customer of Payne's since 1973. I don't come here for the elegant decor. I come because it is the best barbecue around and it is served up by the fine folks who own the place and have worked hard for 3 generations to keep the high standards set by Horton and Emily Payne when they... This place is worth going to when in Memphis. The pulled pork sandwich is hugh, piled so high!!!!!!!! I just can't get into the mustard sauce / mustard cole slaw.

I ordered chicken bar-b-q...chicken was dry and the sauce was not mixed in with the meat, so I did not find it very flavorful. Know this place gets rave reviews, but I was not at all impressed. Stand in line to place your order, table delivery. Inside or patio dining available.

We especially love the pulled pork sandwiches and most especially the mustard Cole slaw. We always get extra sides of it. Less thrilled with the rib sandwich. We always take out of towners there who care more about the q and less about ferns in the dining room.

I saw this restaurant by way of a fb and post and the reviews were good so I decided to try it for myself. We ordered a rib sandwich, a smoked sausage, beef hot dog and caramel cake. Hot dog and smoked sausage were very good. The slaw looks strange, but it's tangy and surprisingly tasty. They put a lot... More

If you aren't comfortable venturing away from your hotel, you can settle for the middling options available to you around Beale and its environs. But this is seriously good 'que. The neighborhood is a little sketchy and there is zero ambience. But the meat has a terrific smoked flavor and is topped with an addictive tangy sauce and mustard-infused slaw.... More
