We went in here and sat up at the bar. Put money in the juke box. Chatted to the barman. Played pool with the locals. The bar man Clarence was so nice & really interesting. Gave us the history of the building and made us...More

Stumbled upon Earnestine and Hazel's while exploring Memphis during a motorcycle trip. We had the best time. The upstairs is filled with character and charm. Being lovers of photography, this upstairs area gave us so much to work with. Great light and terrific colors! The...More

We went there initially because of the rumored hauntings. We were there early before the bar really got going and got a tour of the upper rooms that are still just as they were and very neat. Ray Charles played there. And no, we didn't...More

Our host said we should check out this Queen of the dive bars. Glad we did. It certainly was a dump, but a charming dump that serves delicious burgers. The bartender on duty was anenergetic, young lady who was wonderful and friendly. If you like...More

We were there Halloween eve. The place was dead. 4 people total. I couldn't wait to taste the soul burgers that I had read so much about. I couldn't eat it. Took two bites. Undercooked, processed patty, hard onions...tasteless. The only thing I can say...More

This historic old building (once a famous/infamous brothel) serves The Soul Burger. It is divine. The jukebox holds an archive of Memphis music, and is also haunted...but by good spirits- benevolent ghosts, if u will.

This place is the awesome-est and spookiest dive bar I have ever set foot in! Crumbling walls, a former brothel, a haunted jukebox, forlorn corridors doused in red twilight, creaking doors, an enamel bathtub, dark corners and cold beers served downstairs. Come at nightime for...More

Go for the history and a cold beer. Stay for a Soul Burger. Listen to some great live music or throw a quarter in the juke box!

This restaurant is NOT for those looking for anything fancy or swanky. Ernestine & Hazel's is an old, rough, halfway-condemned looking building. It's perfect! They serve beer (no fancy cocktails or liquor) and serve up a mean no-frills cheeseburger. All of that, combined with the...More

After seeing this place on tv as a must-visit burger place, my boyfriend and I had high hopes - which is totally our fault. When we got the soul burger, we were not that impressed. It was... fine. Not a truly amazing burger as we...More
