Took my wife here for Valentine’s Day. Restaurant was recommended by a friend. Steak was good. But my mushroom bourbon topping was just mushrooms no sauce, a little confused on that one. Gouda Mac and cheese was plain and needed a lot of salt, tasted...like regular noodles with cheese sauce. Seafood bisque was average wont hear me raving about it. Paid around $140 for average food. Could have spent half that and got a 5 star meal somewhere else. Staff was very Friendly and the atmosphere was great. If wasn’t a bad experience I just think with the it being a holiday the food may have been rushed. We will attempt it again on a regular weekend.More

A co-worker and I searched for something off the beaten path for dinner and found this restaurant. Really nice atmosphere and clean with bar on one side of the establishment and the dining on the other. Nice menu - reviewed it online and made a...reservation. The staff were nice however, there were a few bumbles....by the time we received our food it was only lukewarm and we waited a good 15 min. or more. And then he gave me the wrong ticket for my meal. It was basically a slow evening on a Wednesday.More

Party of 4. Pleasant service, no major complaints there. However, we literally sent back half of the food ordered for being served cold or at best lukewarm. Best part of meal was dessert, which was excellent. Entrees get mixed review, half acceptable, half quite bland....One wonders if they have moved the kitchen outdoors. Last trip to this establishment. We waited too long to get reservations at initial choices and paid the price.More

The appetizers and salads were good. Dinner Finally arrived cold. I sent my steak and (so called) "salt encrusted" (no salt evident at all) baked potato back as it wouldn't melt butter. I have eaten there for thirty years and never had a worse experience....The veal was greasy and my wife's salmon was overcooked. I guess Michael no longer cares about the quality in his restaurant. It really used to be excellent. We will go elsewhere next time.More

There were 5 in our party. We ordered the watermelon salad, French onion soup, Cesar salad, Maurice oysters, seared scallops, NY strip steak, veal pacatta, bacon wrapped shrimp, aspargus and garlic mashed potatoes. We shared two desserts: the choclate cake thing and Creme Brule. Everyone...was imressed with the food and service. We were seated at the front entrance and saw everyone who walked in but the atmosphere was quiet. The dining rooms are set up so that there is not a lot of clatter and the bar area is separate.More

The venerable Cafe’ Society has earned its excellent reputation for decades. The Bar is a good choice to eat before going to the nearby Playhouse on the Square, Circuit Playhouse, or Hattilou Theater. For special occasions, the Dining Room offers appropriate ambiance & thoughtful service....& There is also a Private Dining Room. The Classic Seafood Bisque & French Onion Soup never disappoint, & the Dessert Menu is downright sinful! Can’t go wrong with the Chef’s Specials, either (see photos).More

We were so glad we decided to have dinner at Cafe Society instead of the usual downtown restaurants. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The watermelon salad was excellent as well as the lobster bisque. The salmon was as tasty as it was beautifully presented....The veal piccata with pappardelle was great and filling. The service was outstanding and we will be back soon!More

This Resturant is an old Memphis favorite. Haven’t been in a few years due to travel. We had a very nice dinner on the outside patio. The Mussels were great and the Veal Piccata was amazing. Great service as well.

Appetizers (classic seafood bisque and Mussels Maurice) were very good, but unfortunately the main courses were very disappointing, and even the dessert was not as described on the menu. The fish of the day, Cod, was very oily and the “spring vegetables” were overcooked and...uninspired. The Sea Scallops were good, but the “spring peas” had the very characteristic taste and wrinkled look of frozen peas. I couldn’t eat more than a forkful, and the server never questioned why we left all of our vegetables on both our plates. The Flan desert was good, but the menu described “mixed berries” and the Flan was topped by a single strawberry, which was hard and not very sweet.More

Let's get right to the point. THE FOOD HERE IS NOT GOOD, NOR IS THE SERVICE. One of our party ordered a bowl of onion soup, and one ordered a cup. They both contained the same amount, but at different prices. There was NO CHEESE...melted on top. NONE! That's why people order the onion soup. What are these folks thinking? We asked about specials and our server mentioned mussels. Three of us discussed having the mussels, but only I selected them. When the "Mussels Special" arrived it had mussels, shrimp, and scallops (at about double the price of the aforementioned "Mussels Special"). When I asked the server about the "Mussels Special" she told me that the special was clams, and that is what she claimed to have offered to us. Three of us told her she said mussels, and she argued the point. So I said "fine" and ate what I was served. I'm sorry I did. The mussels were sandy and dry, the shrimp rubbery, and the scallops had lots of pieces of shell in them. It was awful. It gets worse. One of our party ordered a chicken dish. He took one bite, and that was it. He didn't say anything to the server, and she didn't ask why he didn't eat any of his meal when she cleared the table. There were other problems as well, but these are the more egregious ones. I don't want to put the name of the server in this review, but if the folks who run this sad little excuse for a French restaurant want to know, they just need to respond to this review and I'll contact them directly. But they won't. No restaurant performs like this without lazy management. So if you want a good meal in Memphis, which has oh so many GREAT restaurants, steer clear of Cafe Society. It's not good.More

I do apologize for this late reply and am truly mortified by the content of your review! I do believe I know who your server was and will make no excuses. That being said this will serve as a painful reminder that she needs to...More
