I have been coming to Houston's on a weekly basis for 27 years. I recently visited on a Tuesday at lunch with my daughter. We were told that her shoes were unacceptable, a pair of Gucci slides. They would allow us to eat that day...however... WHAT??? never again!More

First visit for my husband, I have been a frequent guest here for 15 yrs+. I asked the hostess if we could be seated in the bar when I observed three open booth and open bar chairs. She told me there were no available seats....She then escorted us to a table up one flight of stairs. Before we walked up the stairs, she told my husband he would have to remove his cap. We sat at our table and I could see part of the bar. A minute or two later, I observed a couple being seated at the bar and the man had on a cap. He was not asked to remove his hat for at least 3-5 as I was watching. I got a phone call from our daughter who was going to join us. I walk away from the table back to the hostess area because of the phone policy😡. I asked the same hostess, why did she ask my husband so quickly to remove his cap and not the person that came in a few minutes after us. She did not speak pleasant to me, but she said he move it after he sat down and asked me if I wanted to talk to a mgr. I told her no I did not want to talk to a mgr and I went back to my table. Two minutes later here comes the mgr, Jade. She was very professional, kind voice and courteous. I told I didn't want a mgr and she said a few words a left us to enjoy ourselves. Then a group of 6 can in and was seated near us. This same hostess went to their table, a loud enough for us to hear the conversation, told them that they were at at table for five and they would have to move in an unpleasant tone, the same way she had spoken to us from the moment we arrived. I did call the mgr after we left the restaurant because of the attitude, atmosphere and the unpleasant vibes we received from the hostess. The mgr, Jade said her hostess did what she was supposed to do. This why I am writing this review. All the people we of color who received the ugly attitude from this hostess and I fell to get her name, but, Jade should know who I am referring to. My husband will definitely not be back. I did ask the hostess why she sent a mgr to our table, when I told not to. Too many rules and not the same treatment for all. I will take my money and service where I can be appreciated. I did have a lovely lunch at Benihana's after leaving Houston who treat people different and respect.More

I had a very bad experience with Houston’s restaurant today; 01/23/22. My family had lunch there that was great and a to-go order that was wrong. I called and spoke to two individuals that really upset me about the situation. I immediately contacted corporate and...wrote a review about my experience. Within an hour I got a call from the Asst. General Manager (Nick) who was very empathetic to what happen and apologized for my experience. He also advised me he was going to correct what happen. I love this restaurant and have been coming for years. I appreciate knowing that they do care about their customers. Thanks to Nick for making me a happy customer again and I can’t wait for my next visit.More

This Houston’s is my very fav restaurant & have been here many, many times when stationed near by, compliments of the USN. Deliberately scheduled another visit when heading to Louisiana from NE MN in anticipation of wrapping our whiskers around one of their prime rib...dinners! Alas this item is no longer on their menu!! 🤨 Ralph Price (general mger) PLEASE BRING BACK THE PRIME RIB DINNER! We also called & made reservations but when we checked in, no reservations was noted. 🤔 However Megan (hostess) got us to a table about 20 mins after our originally scheduled time. Note to those that make reservations-ensure you get an email confirmation about your reservation or you won’t have one! But with that said, agree with previous reviews that you simply can not go wrong with any item on the menu! Stellar servers, mellow ambiance & delicious food!More

My pork was not trimmed of fat as requested and was so undercooked as to be dangerous in my view. Neither I, nor my wife could eat it. We made the staff aware of this and it was not reported to management. They offerered to...heat it up but we like to eat together so we took it home to cook properly. Not even a discount! Chicken was acceptable. Wine was OK and reasonably priced. Dessert was OK. We shall not return.More

I’ve been dining at Houston’s for years, although not so much the last two. The menu has narrowed considerably in the last few years, and the wine list has slimmed down, gotten increasingly expensive, & not great selections, but it’s still been pretty consistent food...& a good place when tired & just want to eat & go home. 3 things have always been our go-tos here: the cheeseburger & fries, the Thai steak & noodle salad, & the Five Nut Warm Brownie with ice cream fir dessert. We will not go there again after tonight. The burger was ho hum, the fries limp & insipid ( as they have been the last several times we were there) & tonight not even hot, the Thai steak salad was okay, but the final straw for me was the changed recipe with what had been one of the best chocolate desserts I’ve ever eaten- until tonight! I think they’ve tried to lighten it up, but it had lost its deliciousness. If I’m in a restaurant and order a chocolate dessert, I want chocolate. Not chocolate with dates In it. They’ve just ruined it. Goodbye Houston’s. It’s been a great run, but you’ve blown it.More

The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the food and drinks are consistent in portions, seasonings, taste and display so you can order with confidence and comfort. We try something different every time, and have been pleased with just about ever item. The salads...and slaw are really good, and they still have those wonderful fries. Two bits of info: the roast on French Dip can be a bit fatty, and they no longer offer the fried chicken tenders off the menu. The ribs are great, and they know how to prepare a steak.More

After my state was devastated by Hurricane Ida causing widespread power and communication outages, flooding, no running water, limited gas, and booked hotels in all neighboring cities, Memphis Tennessee was the closet city where I found a place to lodge. While visiting here, my mother...wanted to eat a steak and baked potato. Houston’s Restaurant was only two minutes away from where we were lodging. On September 3, 2021, we went to Houston’s Restaurant in hopes that this experience would be different. Once seated, I made a call to my son to let him know that I was okay and where I was. I was alarmed when a server approached me and ordered me to get off my phone. The server did not provide an explanation for why I needed to refrain from talking on my phone nor did he state that this was due to their policy and procedures which I later found out after speaking with the waitress. As I reflect on the incident, how this server assumed that I was aware of their cell phone policy, and wondered why this wasn’t mentioned upon entering the restaurant, I also thought about his total disregard for what I may have been dealing with while I was on the call. This experience prompted new reflections about the culture and approach taken by management when communicating with people of color. During my trip to Memphis on June 29, 2021, I dined at Houston’s and observed another incident which triggered emotions that would linger. I waited for approximately 3.5 hours before being seated during which time, I observed an African American male customer who appeared upset and dissatisfied complain to the hostess and a female manager. The female manager was noticeably angry and argued with the customer stating that he punished the waitress by choosing not to tip her. After a few exchanges were made, the customer was asked to leave. The hostess made it a point to apologize to the white customers for what I interpreted as an offense that needed to be smoothed over while neglecting to make that same apology to my party. Upon exiting the restaurant, the hostess did not inquire about our experience as she did with other guests. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Houston’s. I recommend that management revisit their policy and procedures, place the policy and procedures in a location that is visible to customers, and all staff need to attend a cultural competency/sensitivity training. Finally, you have set expectations for some of your customers, but fail to demonstrate professionalism and fairness, as well as failed to hold yourselves to the same standards that you hold your customers to.More

Attention to detail & quality of Service was extremely poor! The Hostess was welcoming and re-confirmed our request, we had one guest who is severely (violently) allergic to eggs. Hostess reiterated to staff, and wait staff. Cynthia, stated she would confirm with Chef if any...of the items we ordered contained egg. And, although she confirmed there was no egg in one item, it was evident the smoke salmon sauce contained egg as it was made with mayonnaise. Cynthia forgot to submit an order we ordered from start, she forgot part of the order, we had some additional take away, she did not give us a bag to carry out items, etc. I was prepared to leave her $100.00 bill as her tip, but I reconsidered due to her lack of attention to detail, above all, putting a person at risk and experiencing an anaphylactic shock!!!!!More

It’s not what it use to be. I went there with 3 other friends, 2 from LA and one celebrating a Birthday. Thought we would sit on the patio until our table was ready. The mosquitoes where really bad. I went across the street to...buy repellent. When I came back I was told oh we have some. Then why don’t you guys spray instead of letting your patrons get eaten on. Bites on your face and neck is not fun! But the caveat, we ordered a couple appetizers after the food came we were told silverware cannot be on the patio. Plastic silverware was not an option. I was appalled, you can bring cocktail glasses that can break on the patio. You can bring out plates that can break on the patio either way someone could get hurt but, you’re forced to eat with your hands. What’s classy about this place? We are professionals who wanted to celebrate a birthday and this situation was not helpful. The manager was no help this was utterly pathetic. Stamped epic fail.More

I have never eaten at another restaurant in Memphis in 35 years! I make a bee-line there when in town. Whats happened? Ordered the famous chicken tenders: "We don't have that anymore." Ordered a burger, always great.....the meat that used to be nice and thick...is now about as thick as your finger, with a fist size lump of shredded lettuce on top to disguise the lack of meat. Ordered the salmon, the beautiful slab they use to serve is now 3 fingers wide and was dried out and over-cooked. Ordered their famous cheese toast consisting of 4 or 5 nice thick pieces of soft bread covered in cheese: I got 1 piece of ciabatta bread cut in half, sprinkled with a little cheese for $5! Total bill.........$83 How can you go from a superb eatery to this. Called management.........."we will pass it along" they said. Goodby Houstons, it was a great ride.............More

We waited 1 1/2 hours for a table bc their website stated only reservations were needed for parties 3 or more. So upon arrival we were asked why no reservation? So we decided to hit the bar- no Bud Light. Only 4 beers on tap-...no domestic. Oh, and they wouldn’t take cash at the bar. Maybe this is covid- not sure. Food was good- I guess they have lost their luster for me. Menu seemed limited. Not sure if again this was due to covid.More

It was a reason I stopped going to Houston’s besides they don’t serve those huge delicious bake potatoes. I went back for a steak. Well the waitress brought the check and put it on the table without saying a word. I put cash on the...tray and when she came back she said we do not accept cash. I told her I wish she would have let me know. Well she told me it was on the menu and posted in the front and it was my responsibility to read it. Well. This really upset me. I now know that I will not go back to this Houston’s for a long time. By the way. I did leave her a tipMore

Lol......i'm not sure since I'm local. A call to the restaurant should provide you some answers. Several restaurants in the area do ship FEDEX.

No, but you are usually seated within an hour. I suggest Monday or Tuesday night, as they are usually lighter days.
