My dining experience at Houston's Restaurant in Memphis tonight was the WORST I’ve ever had. I was there to enjoy dinner with my father for my birthday and we were asked to leave immediately at the door and they refused service before we were seated....I let the hostess know we had reservations and she pretended as if it wasn’t there!! she then called the manager to the front to tell me that I was not allowed to eat in their restaurant because i smelled like marijuana and I don’t even smoke. I was highly offended at the Blatant lie she made up because she prejudged me & my dad for the way that we looked. Her name is HOPE & I hope she’s proud for ruining my birthday 👏🏾 these Karens must be stopped and handled accordingly.More
I called to make a reservation for 12 but was told they didn't take reservations so when we showed up they asked if we had a reservation. So no we didn't have one. Then the hostess was so rude saying we all would be split...up around the restaurant. Very hateful. Didn't try to help at all. Someone should have a talk about her attitude.More
I have visited twice recently, and everything is great! Perfectly prepared meals, fresh salads, and wonderful deserts are complimented by friendly, courteous, yet professional wait staff. Everything you need is provided without asking, yet you never feel rushed nor hovered over. Beware the prices, but...don't be deterred... you won't find better food or service anywhere!More
My husband and I were in Memphis today and since we hadn't been in a while went to our favorite spot, Houston's. We've been patrons since the mid 90's and have chosen to eat there every time we have a chance. I'm sorry to say...that over the last year or so the food quality has changed and not for the better. Tonight's meal was probably our last for a long time. It wasn't anything specific but a list of issues. First off it's Thursday, everyone knows that the soup of the day on Thursday is their spectacular baked potato soup. But no more, no more baked potato soup, they have taken it off the menu. Next I ordered the club salad with crispy chicken tenders. Guess what, the waitress comes back to tell us that it's now after 5:00 and they don't serve chicken tenders after 5:00 anymore not even on the salads. So, no baked potato soup and no tenders on my salad. Ok we'll try the Mexican soup that is now the soup of the day on Thursday, it's ok but nothing to write home about. Then the salads show up with sliced smoked chicken as explained. The meat was so dry that I couldn't get enough dressing on it to fix the problem and even with all the dressing, the salad basically had no taste. My husband ordered the same thing and when we got to the car asked " was it just me or did the salad have no taste"? And finally our menu priced the club salad at $17 but on our bill they were $19. I'll not be paying $70 for two people for mediocre food again anytime soon. For years the name Houston's was synonymous with melt in your mouth steaks and everything that came out of the kitchen was to die for. It makes me so sad that it's no longer that way. We will miss you.More
During our recent two week business trip to Memphis our local friends highly recommended this restaurant and this placed in our top three favorite list. Great food and service in a beautiful atmosphere. Definitely eat here!
The hostess was that rude that we not even wanted to accept the manager apology to get us a table. The reason?... we were not welcome because we have kids under 2-years old...
This Houston's location should put a warning at the entrance or website...letting people know that no kids are accepted, at least while the hostess Megan is on duty... Terrible experience, completely unexpected.More
As starting the new year we went to Houston’s to en joy a family meal.
We have been received horribly by Meghan.
She has been nasty to us, making us a favor to accommodate us in a table of six.
Than complaining that a baby...of a year old cannot walk in the entrance.
If Houston’s policy is not welcoming families it should be stated before arriving to the restaurant.More
It had been quite a while since my family had eaten at Houston’s so we gave it a try last night. First of all, I appreciated the fact that they now take reservations. The crowds and wait time used to be horrible so this was...a nice surprise. I was not that hungry so I decided to have a salad and a side of Brussel sprouts. More restaurants now offer these as a wonderful side item....usually air fried( I think) with a delicious sauce drizzled on top. Unfortunately, these were not good. They tasted like they had been boiled and had a strange sauce on them......no flavor! The waitress saw that I had eaten practically none of them and asked if I wanted them to be boxed. I honestly told her they were not good but there was no offer to refund or replace. The cook needs to check out how to cook Brussel sprouts......there are some delicious ones out there! On a positive note, the blue cheese dressing was delicious. My husband ordered the French Dip and commented how delicious it was. He doesn’t usually say much so that was a real complement.More
