I've had decent meals at Paulette's. Its an OK restaurant when you need somewhere to go to take a business guest. Don't expect anything special and you'll be fine.,

My wife and I took a weekend in Memphis and stayed at the River Inn which houses Paulette's. The visit was not a great one. We were held in their waiting area for 40 minutes after our reservation time due to "staffing issues". Once seated...our waiter was great but obviously stressed and overwhelmed. We informed him that we were not in an hurry just looking forward to a great meal. We ordered a nice bottle of Silver Oak Cab, which was the highlight of the meal / night. I ordered Crab cakes for a starter and my wife ordered the wedge salad. The salad came out warm and without blue cheese crumbles. My crab cakes were small and cold, it appeared they sat for awhile in the kitchen. For the main dish I ordered the Paulette's Filet while my wife ordered the regular filet. Neither meal was very good. My wife's filet was a poor cut, tough and stringy. The Paulette's filet was drowning in a butter cream sauce that was cool and badly flavored. I am sure this restaurant was good in its prime but appears to be declining. The general upkeep was substandard for a restaurant of this price range. There was notable dust on the paintings and fixtures and the carpet was stained in several places. We felt sorry for the wait staff as they were trying very hard to make the experience a good one but could not keep up. A gentleman who appeared to be a manager was seen scowling and very disinterested in helping out. I can not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are many fine places in Memphis and I would say fine one, not this one.More

Great dinner at Paulette's in the River Inn at Harbor Town, Memphis. Service by Matt was very good. Ambiance is fine dining intimate. We began with a cheese board and cocktails. Ony disappointing surprise for the night was a $24 Hendricks Martini (at least it...was delicious) - about the price of each entree! Even our server was surprised when he saw the price (Hendricks on the rocks is $12) and said he asked the bartender to be sure. Other than that gouge, the rest of their prices were very reasonable for fine dining (e.g., Maker's on the rocks only $9.50 and a good pour). Next was an excellent wedge salad, followed by delicious entrees of Herb Chicken and Salmon. Both were perfectly cooked and highly recommended. For dessert we had the chocolate decadence cake (more like fudge, but very tasty).More

Tried to celebrate our 30th anniversary at Paulette's and it was terrible. Asked for a special table and was seated next to a 6 year old throwing French Fries. Asked for new table and was seated by couple in T-shirts and shorts. Waiter was inattentive,...then argumentative, then rude. Filet Paulette's, the house specialty, was ordered Medium but served to me Raw. My wife's $42 fish entrée came with no more than 2 oz of fish. No one ever acknowledged our anniversary despite the fact that I communicated it with the reservation and reminded them when we walked in. Menu was limited, terribly executed and the wine list was a joke. You want a nice, romantic dinner with outstanding food and service? Go to Flight.More

We stayed in the River Inn (highly recommend!) and ate breakfast and lunch at Paulettes. Breakfast was really delicious with plenty of variety, excellent fresh juice & delicious grits! Lunch was also very good & reasonably priced, though our best meal was at Flight in...town, which gets 5 stars, by comparison Paulettes has to take 4....More

The atmosphere is outstanding. Greeted by our waiter and were skillfully and professionally. Food was outstanding. The Paulette Filet (their specialty filet) was seasoned perfectly. I ordered it medium and it came just a tad past medium, but was still an excellent meat choice.

I am not typically a cranky customer and I am rarely combative. However, when we recently went to Paulette’s for a celebratory dinner, the waiter was so rude and condescending about our wine selection that it ruined the evening. Notwithstanding the fact that the Filet...Paulette Filet was a little underdone - rare instead of medium rare - and the deviled eggs were unremarkable, the food was excellent. Hence two stars instead of one. But the service was initially slow, and when he finally arrived the waiter’s attitude was atrocious. It ruined the meal. I have not been so disrespected by waitstaff since an incident in Newport in 1976. He never bothered to introduce himself, or I would mention him by name. Perhaps he was more used to addressing his customers with the phrase, “Do you want fries with that?” We have eaten at Paulette’s before and we have enjoyed it. But there is no shortage of fine dining establishments in Memphis, so I doubt that we will go back and subject ourselves to that abuse. Next time we will go to Flight or Itta Bena.More

We went here for Thanksgiving dinner and it was a great choice… amazing food! It’s a smaller venue, so you’ll want to make a reservation. The bar is TINY, so if you go early for a drink, there might not be room for you. I...rated them lower than perfect for 2 reasons… wine glasses were not thoroughly cleaned (3rd time’s a charm) and our dessert took forever… not our waiter’s fault, tho.More

We had just arrived in Memphis and had a room at the RiverInn. My wife was starving and the bar was open, so she made herself comfortable.Once I arrived, there was another couple -then another in succession. We ended up eating at the bar and...the food was fabulous! she had red fish and I had a steak - all good on all parts. We loved it and wished we lived in Memphis so we could eat here more often!More

Had reservations but didn’t get seated when we got there. Went to the bar and waited quite a while for anyone to ask us if we wanted a beverage. Finally seated and waited so long for service that we just decided to leave. Spoke with...apparent manager to inform him we were leaving and his response was simply ok. No apology, or discussion. Very nicely decorated and situated (across from Mississippi River) restaurant. Table cloths, neatly folded cloth napkin, reminded me of a private yacht or country club restaurant! Food was very good, but to not have a soup selection is just wrong. A menu update and better...bar drink options would do wonders for this place!More

Today when we got out of church my fiancé and myself were trying to decide where to go for lunch. The heat was already becoming oppressive and we wanted to stay indoors in the cool and have a tasty fresh meal and cold cocktails. We...live in Desoto county but often venture into Memphis to dine. We figure if it's worth it then why not go the distant, even for lunch. We tossed around a few ideas and then I suggested Paulette's. We haven't visited since back in January and he knows how much I love the Chicken Sicilian. He even made the statement, "I know what you're going to get." I smiled and said, "of course". When we arrived we knew there must be a wait because people were standing outside. I quickly opened the Open Table app and there was one reservation left, 12:45pm. It was 12:38pm. We were right on time. It's meant to be I said. Because there were only two of us, even though we had a reservation, we offered to sit at the bar. No problem. The hostess quickly fixed our place settings and off to the bar we went. When we sat down I was really warm but just figured that I needed to cool off from walking from the car to the restaurant. However, I looked to my left and the thermostat showed 80 degrees (room temp) on the left and 75 (setting) on the right. We always order cocktails and I thought there is no way I can drink alcohol being this warm in here but we went ahead and ordered the drinks as well as iced water and I was continuing to try to cool off. My fiancé ordered me Grey Goose and lemonade, my usual. The bartender stated that the lemonade was all out but what else would I prefer. They hadn't been open but for a couple hours. I opted for a simple syrup with real squeezed lemon juice. Not my favorite but I guess it'll do. We also ordered the deviled eggs as an appetizer, a strawberry salad, a mixed green salad and of course the Chicken Sicilian. I requested to substitute the goat cheese for mozzarella cheese on my salad. The bartender stated that he would have to ask the manager if the kitchen could make the Chicken Sicilian. It's not on the menu but it's always been my favorite and I have never had an issue ordering it. The bartender returned and said unfortunately the kitchen is not prepared to make that dish and you'll need to order something else. Not prepared to make the Chicken Sicilian? What? The bartender stated that they didn't have the water boiling for the angel hair pasta. I'm thinking to myself that angel hair takes minutes to cook. It's the faster cooking pasta there is and the chicken is just a quick battered and pan fried thin chicken breast. I don't understand what the big deal was in making this dish but okay. So we proceeded to order the Chicken Broquette with mushroom sauce and rice. Not what I really wanted because I was really looking forward to the Chicken Sicilian dish but I was hopeful that I would like it. I am not a big fan of mushrooms unless they are baby bellas and I certainly do not like them whole. Our plan was to share the entrée because after all it was so hot outside and it was just "lunch". The deviled eggs arrived and for $12 I thought that we'd get at least three egg halves a piece, nope, just two. So basically we each had a $6 egg! Then our salads arrived. The bartender stated that he was really sorry but that they were all out of mozzarella cheese and offered me parmesan, swiss or goat cheese. No thank you. I do not like any of those, but I appreciate his willingness to accommodate me with a replacement. When they could not locate a cheese I liked I just asked for a wedge salad but without the blue cheese crumbles and onions and I asked for ranch dressing. The bartender said no problem and removed the other salad from our bill and replaced it with the wedge. However, the kitchen left the onions on the wedge and put my cold salad wedge, with the hard core still in it on a hot plate right out of the dishwasher as well as placed my cold ranch dressing in a hot sauce dish also right out of the dishwasher. This made my wedge hot on the bottom. Gross! My fiancé's strawberry salad's pecans were replaced by soft pine nuts in which no one even asked or warned him of that until he bit into it. Meanwhile we could not cool off and requested that the air be lowered. I was sweating so bad that I could not even drink my cocktail. I literally had to use a wash cloth from the bathroom at my table to continually wipe my brow. Then our popovers and entrée came out. The popovers were a huge disappointment. No taste at all and the strawberry butter was so bland. I remember these popovers from the previous location on Madison and they were so good. They were fresh, soft and the butter always was smooth and tasted delicious. They were truly a Rockstar at the old location on Madison. The entrée, although the four small pieces of chicken had good flavor, the rice tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for the day. It was almost too hot to eat, which when you're already burning up you just really don't feel like eating a super hot meal. THIS experience is not the Paulette's that I remember. I am not sure what was going on but I am not even sure I want to return. Also, I opted to email rather than to post a negative low score rating on Trip Advisor to give management an opportunity to remedy the issue. When we pay $96 for lunch we expect a $96 lunch in a well vented, cool spot. When I emailed, a week and a half ago, I suggested they add solar screens to the front of the restaurant where all the windows are facing the river/sun during the hottest part of the day to lower the heat from all the glass as well as set your thermostat to a comfortable setting. Seventy five is way too hot in a restaurant full of bodies that is facing the sun. I feel really sorry for the servers who are having to wear black long sleeves with a black face mask. They were even sweating. You cannot sustain a good reputation when your patrons are miserable. We had to stop eating and just get up and leave because we were so hot and sticky which was surprising being in a centrally located area in the restaurant and away from the windows. BTW...I have yet to hear from anyone from Paulette's and therefore I am posting a negative review.More
