we visited after the Civil Rights Museum tour and found that it was not too busy on this mid week, mid morning visit. Enjoyed everything.

Excellent flavor! We did an online to go order with curbside pickup. The sauce was very tasty. We ordered a brisket sandwich with onion rings. I’m so glad we decided to share one sandwich. The restaurant is very generous with the serving of brisket. Excellent...sandwich. We will probably eat there again today.More

Line moved slowly. Was happy to find an option for "party packs" - meat for 6, buns, and a side of slaw. Party pack pricing was excellent and far cheaper than ordering separate sandwiches. We had pulled pork and our family of 5 ate it...all comfortably. The slaw side was tiny and a little more vinegary tasting than we prefer. I also order a "large" side of mac n cheese - not really a family sharing size, but we thought the mac n cheese was tasty. The pulled pork was ok, nothing special and lots of fatty pieces. The buns were grocery store white buns - less than special. The best part of our meal was the desserts - a very rich piece of peanut butter pie and the banana pudding. Very easy to walk to from the National Civil Rights museum. Free parking in the museum lot or on the street. Line stretched out the door when we left.More

My husband and I stopped here to have lunch. We chose it because it was dog friendly in the outdoor area and we were wanting BBQ. People were very nice and food was good. I had the pulled chicken plate. My sides were potato salad...and baked beans. The BBQ sauce was very good. It was the perfect mix of sweet and heat. My husband had the bone in chicken and he liked it. The only thing was my pulled chicken was kind of dried out a bit. Lafayette, our German Shepherd, seemed to be happy with my left overs. I would eat here again.More

Being in Memphis for only a couple of days, I was eager to get some good Memphis BBQ. The reviews of Central BBQ plus my going to the Civil Right Museum led me to chose the downtown location. The wait to order was short and...I got a half rack of ribs, a side of Mac n Cheese and a banana pudding. Taking a seat, I waited and my order was delivered swiftly. When I first sliced into the rack of ribs with a knife, I was surprised to find how difficult it was to cut through them. My first bite of the outer bark- was crunchy. Not the type of crunchy I have felt with most of the good ribs I have eaten. It didn't get better. The mac n cheese, with a sprinkling of rub on top was only slightly warm and had little flavor. Leaving a couple of ribs untouched and also leaving half the mac n cheese, I turned my attention to the banana pudding. It was cold, it was creamy but the banana flavor tasted man-made and I don't believe there were any actual bananas in the dish itself. For the price I paid, I expected better. However, there are other BBQ places and I hope I have better luck at one of them!More

I was excited to eat here after reading so many good reviews. Boy was I ever disappointed. The meat did not have much flavor and it was dry. I was not impressed with the potato salad and coleslaw either. It definitely was not $55.00 good.

The food came almost immediately to our table. I ordered the half rack of ribs and they were extremely dry. They'd obviously been under lights for a while. My husband got pulled pork and it was also dry. I had such high hopes from reviews,...but sadly it was disappointing. The sauce was good, the sweet tea was good, the baked beans were great, the mac & cheese was a joke - out of a can, I think! Seriously Kraft mac & cheese is way better. It would have been nice if the biscuits were warm, cold biscuits are never good. I think the flavor of the ribs was good, but no fun to eat when dry as paper. When you eat ribs your fingers should get a little moist and mine were dry.More

We waited in a line for about 20 and waited another 20 for our food, and I’m just stating fact, that’s not a complaint. They did a great job getting people in and out with the line they had. And no wonder there was a...line, the food was fantastic. My 7 year old had a hotdog and Mac n cheese (the kids meal also came with a bonus fruit cup) which he really enjoyed. I had a pork sandwich (with slaw, because that’s how you eat them) and greens. I got a large greens and they were fantastic. They were missing a little pepper taste which I typically enjoy and I couldn’t find any pepper sauce for them. Pork sandwich was on point, just needed a little more bbq sauce which I added myself. My husband got 3 meats: brisket, pork, and chicken. The first thing he said was that the chicken wasn’t dry. The brisket was amazing, sliced thin and so tender and juicy. He didn’t get much pork, unfortunately it was mostly fat cap, but what he had was very good. The Mac n cheese is super creamy and delicious as well. We wanted to try the chocolate cake but they were out of it, apparently it’s popular. The bbq sauces are very good, the mustard sauce has a little bit of a kick and was fantastic. Over all a great experience and really good bbq. Just be prepared to wait.More

The locals will recommend Central and they are right. We ordered a Full Rack of Ribs and sides to share. These are the flavors you can expect in the south. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean and fun. This is a laid back...environment meant to delight your soul. You will see families stopping in after their kids' sporting events, couples, singles and pretty much anybody hungry. Best to drive or take one of the horse drawn chariots. Fantastic. Thank you everyone at Central.More

Stood in line for 25 minutes (only 5 small parties ahead of us) only to be told they had no meat. Clearly poor management and complete lack of hospitality. Recommend others go to one of the many other great choices in Memphis.

Central BBQ was recommended to us by a gentleman at the Peabody Hotel and it did not disappoint. Ribs here were much meatier and much better (tastier) than the ones we had Friday night at Rendezvous. Also enjoyed the Pulled Pork (excellent) and the flavorful...Green Beans (side). Recommend Central BBQ!!More

The pulled pork was delicious, and I liked the vinegar-based and mustard-based sauces. The BBQ nachos were also tasty, although I was surprised the cheese wasn't melted. My daughter loved her grilled cheese and fries and the cookie that came with her meal. The staff...was very helpful, friendly, and attentive.More

The ribs were moist and tender and we loved the pulled pork. Help yourself to the various sauces to find the one you like the best. Good selection of beers but don't ask for a glass of wine, they will laugh in your face and...ignore your request.More

We walked from our hotel but it seems there was plenty of parking near by. The museum is just across the street and would be closed at that time on a Sunday so that could work.
