I got the jerk chicken wings last week and salad. Both good , but those chicken wings are very spicy hot! Make sure to have a cold liquid to wash them down.
If you’re in Memphis I would highly suggest ordering from another Jamaican restaurant called currynjerk instead of Evelyn & olive. Don’t waste your money at this ghetto restaurant. I have never experienced such ghetto customer service at a business that I am investing my money...into. The food is burnt and dried. You don’t get what you pay for.More
Horrible customer service today!!! I went here for the first time and ordered the jerk chicken pasta. While waiting for the server at the bar to pick up my order, Customers hear the server cursing at the staff in the back! The server proceeds to...walk to the bar to serve me and a couple in front of me. She laughs with the couple and tells them "you usually get the pasta. I'll let you know when the good chef is here to do the pasta and today is not that day!",. I'm standing behind them shaking my head because that is exactly what I ordered. I tell the server, "Well, I guess I came on a wrong day to order pasta. Plus it's my first time eating here". She replies with "First of all I was talking to them (referring to the couple in from of me), they are regulars I know how they like their food cooked. But yeah I was talking to them". I should have left at that moment leaving this nasty, clumpy, pasta behind!!! Very Disappointing experience, especially when you are trying to support Black-owned businesses.More
Evelyn and Olive provided a chef to do a private dinner at our Air BnB. Darrin was amazing! He made the experience very special for me and my family, and the food was amazing!!! I didn’t take a lot of pictures; however, the menu included:...Fried green tomatoes Salt and peeper shrimp Yard salad Jerk salmon Rasta pasta Rum punch Key lime pie and a champagne toast Amazing! We loved it.More
First, let me say, the food is GOOD. I frequented this establishment multiple times before the pandemic and was never disappointed. My go to is always the oxtails plate, fried green tomatoes and rum punch - it never misses. This is my first time going...under the leadership of new owneers/managers and my time there was great. I will say that the building can use a little TLC, but it doesn't take away from the experience and the great cuisne you get from Evelyn & Olive. We love Darren and he always makes sure we are taken care of. You can tell that the staff there has built relationships outside of the workplace (maybe they are family) so you get some good engergy while youre there. Tables are spaced out enough so that you feel comfortable where you sit and the staff does wear their masks. 5 stars!More
We love going to Memphis, but I always dread the food because I follow a mostly vegan diet, and so much of the food in the touristy area is bbq, etc. . I was so glad to have found this restaurant within walking distance of...the Beale Street area. It is away from the touristy area, so I never would have known about it without finding it online first by searching Black-owned restaurants. I had the tofu and black bean tacos and my husband had the Rasta Pasta. Both were delicious and the service was excellent and friendly. This is a restaurant I will definitely eat at again on my next trip to Memphis. It is worth the walk or quick drive. I hope other people will eat away from Beale Street and try better restaurants like this.More
I was taking by surprise when I first ate at this restaurant. My first visit was with very low expectations, because I assumed that there were no "real jamaicans" in Memphis...but I was wrong and I was wowed! The atmosphere, the rum punch, the patty...and coco bread were the real deal. On my second visit I had the oxtail and the first taste took my back to a time when family gathered around the table for Sunday dinner. On my third visit I had the curry goat and a red stripe. It was so delicious, I had to cuss a authentic bumboclaat. I've been going there at least one day each week for the past 6 months.More
Excellent Carribean food! I had the salt and pepper shrimp with the boom boom sauce and the Rasta pasta. The Rasta pasta was the bomb! Would recommend that!
I truly enjoyed my visit here today. The food was great! I ordered the goat with coconut rice, cucumber and steamed cabbage. My friend has the oxtails with rice and peas, jama and cucumber. The steamed cabbage was delicious! Everything was good. My goat was...a little spicy but very flavorful. That was just my favorite. We also had the sorrel- I recommend it for everyone. I was stuffy and had bad allergies when we first arrived. By the time we left, I felt great. The portions were large enough to have leftovers. The ambiance was okay. The space is rather older and quaint, but intimate. There were also alcoholic beverages but we didn’t partake. I felt bad for the bartender. She was making drinks, serving tables and cleaning tables, even still, she kept a smile. She was professional, kind and personable. I loved it and I’ll definitely be back.More
Can post a pic bcuz I arrived 30 mins aft I called my order n and ther was no food available? The least someone could've done was informed me. I left hangry. Had to settle for chipotle. No apology given to accept.
Outstanding food, excellent service, really good wine. A true hidden gem. Good location, with free on street parking
Three of us are here and everything we ordered was fantastic and reasonably priced. The drinks were great, the service was friendly and the food was delicious. Yum.
Yes , it’s ok here . Quite authentic Jamaican food , good selection of dishes ,served with a smile , on
This was our 1st time visiting. We had the curry goat & the oxtails. Both seasoned very well, but food was lukewarm. I did send my jama jama( spinach & collards) back because they were too cold. The wait staff were very friendly. The owners...were cold & distant. The building does need some tlc... my husband went to bathroom after we ate & based on the peek in the kitchen (no door), if we had seen this prior to ordering we probably would've gotten up & left. Hopefully with the owners having building 1 year they will bring building up to standards.More
