Nestled in the West Coast town of Stranraer overlooking the picturesque Loch Ryan where you can watch the ferries going to and from Northern Ireland and Cairnryan Port. Henrys Bay House Restaurant boasts the finest sun terrace for alfresco dining and views to be inspired by. The menu features locally sourced fish and meat prepared and cooked freshly to order by local chef/restauranteur John Henry. The comfortable and stylish restaurant and bar are managed by his wife Jane and her team of attentive, welcoming staff.
All reviews seafood pancake mussels duck cheesecake steak pancakes loch ryan the early bird menu lovely restaurant dining experience excellent meal two courses could not fault evening meal cooked to perfection place to eat varied menu
First time there, but recommended by Lakeside Guest House, Stranraer. The food was excellent, well prepared and cooked. I had the strips of beef and my wife had the Duck. They both tasted beautiful, I can't recommend them highly enough.
We were so disappointed to hear that Henrys was going to be closed for holidays at the same time that we were visiting Stranraer. We had heard such good reports but luckily we managed to get the last table last night just before they close...for 2 weeks. The menu is varied and a bit different and certainly upmarket from your normal restaurant however the prices are very reasonable. I had the Sea Bass which I would never normally choose but it was absolutely delicious with lots of tasty accompaniments, Hubby had fillet steak strips in a gorgeous sauce which was definitely a mansize portion and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The deserts were to die for. There was a lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly and we had a really good night. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.More
We had a lovely meal at Henrys Bay House - a beautiful house and clearly with stunning views over Loch Ryan. ( You can sit outside on the patio too but we came for an evening meal so it was dark already)
The restaurant was...busy, had a large group in but service was still swift and very friendly. We shared the seafood platter for starters and it was delicious, totally recommend it. Main courses were very good too, generous portion and the cheesecake my partner had for dessert was excellent too.
Prices are very reasonable too and it was clear to see why this restaurant is popular with locals.More
During June we stayed for 3 nights in a really good B & B in Stranraer. Before travelling there my wife had undertaken some research on Tripadvisor about what to do during our visit and where to eat. Henrys was a definite must do if...possible. We were lucky to phone and reserve a table for dinner on our last hight in town.
The car park is a bit tight to negotiate but we were lucky to find an accesible space when we arrived. We were quickly shown to our table, given the menu and told about the daily specials. My wife decided to have the steamed/baked crab claws (a special) for her starter while I had the creamy cheddar mushroom pot. This was followed by sea bass for my wife and a chicken dish for myself.
The food was well presented and very tasty. In particular we both enjoyed the crab claws. There was far too much for my wife to eat so she let me have some. I also really enjoyed my mushrooms, I just love it when they come cooked in a cheese sauce. We also both enjoyed our main courses.
Following the disappointment of the meal that we had elsewhere the night before it was really good to end our short holiday away on such a high note.More
Decided to come after reading the reviews & OMG the service & food is amazing. I had the seafood pancake & couldn't finish it was so full of seafood it was lovely & roasting hot. My partner had fish & chip which was also great....I would highly recommend will definitely be back.More
Went in search of fish dinner and found it at this lovely restaurant in Stranraer.
Dining room is nicely appointed and service was spot on.
Would recommend as alternative to same-old, same-old fish and chips spots.
