Excellent food beautifully cooked and just enough choice to ensure there is something for everyone. Prices very reasonable but the atmosphere is what makes this restaurant memorable. Querky choice of decor, great relaxing selection of music and a place that is immediately relaxing. Staff are polite and friendly and great to chat with. A really lovely place to go.

I travelled secretly to Scotland and dined at The Upper Crust. I rode inside of a nuclear submarine (the USS Springfield, SSN 761) and docked at Faslane. The Upper Crust was a delight and I hope to return soon. I wrote to the owners, the husband, wife and son and was delighted to receive a letter back in America. They... More

Personal friendly service in subdued surroundings but welcoming. The lady chef proprietor prided herself justifiable in providing honest food well prepared and well presented

I've lived in Helensburgh for 23 years and never experienced The Upper Crust, until now. What a surprise, on many levels! The smell of damp is the first thing to hit you, followed by the realisation that you might be in someone's grans sitting room for dinner. Fear not, the experience is quite delightful and the food is delicious. It's... More

Quite possibly the most bizarre place we've eaten. We've been in Helensurgh for over a decade and never eaten here, until last week. I wish we'd not bothered. We were the only people here, sat in the corner of the strangest room. Im all for ecletic taste but this was just plain scruffy. Random scatter cushions plonked on unmatched chairs,... More

Thank-you for taking the time and making the effort to post a review. Feedback, even unsolicited and negative is always illuminating and interesting. However in the interest of verisimilitude I feel I must take issue with you on a couple of points. Firstly price: I feel that our prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food. In fact they... More

When you arrive at The Upper Crust, the omens are not promising. The street sign looks a bit jaded, then you pass down a passge and into a strange hallway that suggests you are arriving at a guesthouse run by a 90-year-old. Then when you get into the restaurant you notice a distinct smell of damp. But this is all... More

This restaurant is well worth a visit. Slightly off the beaten track, the restaurant is rustic and quirky and the background music eclectic - all add to its overall charm! The food is wonderful - beautifully cooked and presented and reasonably priced. They do the best steaks in Helensburgh! This is one not to be missed.

Excellent food, superbly cooked and absolutely delicious, guinea fowl just perfect and lemon sole a veritable delight with chips that were so tasty as to being almost unreal. This really is a hidden gem, on a cold night it was lovely to be welcomed by a pleasant and attentive owner, décor eclectic but welcoming, we'll be going back very soon.

Tucked away little haven. Great food Perfectly prepaired meal with a very attentive and friendly owner. Only small draw back is that despiste the heating been on full it was still a little cool and a little too rustic. However still a hidden treasure.

We dined here after reading the reviews on this site. We're those diners at the same restaurant?? Decor and atmosphere is somewhat eclectic, Mexican music playing in a french/scottish restaurant. The waiter/owner was great however the food less so. The guinea fowl was overcooked and my red wine jus was in fact a gravy, my lamb was overcooked too. Starter... More
