Not a good first impression, dreary and no atmosphere and in need of a good clean. We sat at the window and the sills were filthy and the table was tacky . The salt and pepper mills hadn't been cleaned for a while and there was...food on the floor. Had we not been so hungry we would have left at this point However, the staff were very friendly, and very efficient. Nice menu but rather pricey for the standard of place. Surprisingly the food was very nice and we couldn't fault it. A deep clean or a refurb would make a huge difference to the place, and at the prices they charge for the food and drink, I'm sure they can afford it.More

We were met by very friendly staff at the door and then served by an even friendlier barman. Food was top class, we had salmon and a steak pie followed by the turkish baklava and 2 cappuccinos and everything was top class. Definitely a place...to go to when in Balloch. 10/10 for service and food.More

Family party of 9, 2 kids and7 adults. Great service from start to finish. Got everything absolutely right and very friendly and helpful. Food was terrific. Wide variety ordered amongst us and all served on time and perfectly cooked. Everyone agreed that their meals were...extremely good, best we’ve had on our trip. 10/10 for both staff and food. Would highly recommend and would return without hesitationMore

I went to try the new Turkish menu and wasn’t disappointed. Had a beautiful chicken shawarma kebab , nowhere else in the area does one the this level , I’ll definitely be back. Well done Ozzy and team.

Again the Trip Advisor scoring is unhelpfully inflexible so off the bat, I’d like to state that my review is that Stables was “Good” rather than “Average” or “Very Good”. I popped in here after a long day in the saddle whilst staying in Balloch,...(well, Jamestown to be precise). The area is a curious mix of quite pleasant traditional stone houses, and new build interspersed amongst 1960s council flats and decrepit failed businesses. It’s not an obvious choice of location for the discerning traveller but it marks the start of the NC767, hence the overnight stay. The exterior of Stables boasts a rather incongruous wood cladding but the building also has a decent sized car park to the front which is handy. On my post-Covid-apocalypse visit there were only a couple of cars present. On entering, the interior was dark but the waitress who welcomed me was bright and chirpy and although on her own, she managed a good level of attention and service. The beer options are limited: this is lowland Scotland so it’s either lager or lager - the draught Guinness was off. I did plump for a keg ale they had which wasn’t advertised and I wished I hadn’t. It tasted like it doesn’t get much throughput and going by the taste I can understand why. Note to self: In Scotland, when there is nothing more obvious on tap than lager, drink the lager. For my meal I had a Mexican burger - the steaks were too much of a gamble at £25 for a 10oz sirloin - and I have to say it was a good choice. Served with the ubiquitous fries and a little side of coleslaw, it was delicious. The burger was accompanied by a very tasty steak chilli with chorizo in it which although a little lacking in spice for my taste, was consumed with gusto. I have to say that this was one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever had. I finished off with a very nice baklava which piqued my curiosity and which I thought was a curiously uncharacteristic dessert item for a homely Scottish bar, and gave me an inkling into the possible heritage of either the owner or chef. Turns out my suspicions were on the money. The gaffer (who is Turkish) came out to have a little chat and to get some feedback on the meal which was a nice touch and it showed that there was some real intent to turn out good, tasty food that met the rather bland palates of the locals (apparently) whilst still offering passers-by like me with more well-travelled tastes a bit of variety. I concluded the meal with a wee dram, (when in Rome….) and then stumbled off to my BnB. Stables suffers from its location which in turn means that it must aim to meet the desires of its regular clientele to survive. In this respect it’s obvious capabilities and potential are somewhat hampered into turning out relatively bland food to meet the bland local palate. There are however some gems to be found amongst the menu as I experienced, and my advice would be to talk to the waitress or better still mein host about your desires, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.More

10/10 in all areas and I’m a very tough person to please. Staff were super friendly, the food was amazing and we must of ordered the full menu as they were 9 of us. Every meal was without faults.. Timings were perfect. We have eaten...out a lot in the last week as we are on holiday but nothing comes close to this restaurant. 😁👍More

Firstly, I’d like to highlight that the hostess was very friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome. The food offering is comprehensive with the traditional pub offering with various international dishes as well. I did find the starter choices a bit limited but this...may have been down to my personal preference. The food was well cooked and nicely presented and reasonably priced. However, the atmosphere and environment let this establishment down. The decor was reminiscent of an eighties working men’s club and the restaurant was a bit dingy. The room itself was outdated but didn’t feel like a stable, is it supposed to be equestrian themed? Perhaps a repaint of the walls a lighter colour and a modernization of the decor may help this? The interior was so dark that you couldn’t see inside from the front windows outside, it would probably attract more customers if they could see that inside it looks like a restaurant! Furthermore, the music being Elton John’s back catalogue on shuffle didn’t help, it left it feeling like a local sports club that’s barely hanging on. I hope the owners read this and view my criticisms and suggestions as constructive. There is a lot of positives, the service and food offering is excellent but a revamp of the interior and exterior would really enhance this restaurant. New signage outside or at least give the existing signage a clean would be a start! Balloch is a small town and there are several restaurants that have a similar offering, I’d be inclined to say that the food offering here is better than most and definitely more family friendly and affordable than some establishments. It’s just that these other places have a better branding, exterior and interior decor. It’s the first impressions that bring customers in, but I have no doubt that the existing service and food offering will bring them back!More

Having not been here for some time was looking forward to my visit. My husband and I ordered the sirloin steak at £24.95 a head. Steak was very tough and very dry, tomatoes and mushrooms cremated. Really disappointed. Will not be back.

The food was excellent, as was the service. My party of four each left nothing on their plates, even when the portions had been huge. Will definitely pop-in when we are up that way again.

I was spending the weekend in Loch Lomond and wanted to try a local restaurant, after looking on Google I noticed that The Stables came out on top with the best reviews, so after a quick phone call we left our hotel and headed into...Balloch, they are located in the city centre and have on site parking available which does get quite busy. The restaurant is quite large with plenty of seating available, the staff are so friendly and down to earth willing to answer any question and go the extra mile. Myself & my Girlfriend ordered the chicken goujons, which is usually a go to for us when we see it on a menu. It was really busy but the food was served in no time at all and tasted delicious, no meal is complete without desert, so a banana boat & a chocolate fudge cake sounded just what we were after. Once again served in no time at all considering they were really busy. All in all our experience was great: from the food to the really friendly staff it will definitely make us go back for more!More

I'm sure they will if you ask. They also do a very good 1/2lb beefburger if that helps.
