We had booked our table almost a year in advance (you don't need to do this) and we were so thrilled that we were still able to go post COVID. The Three Chimneys is in a stunning spot and is very stylish. Special measures have been made post COVID - staff wear masks, tables have been reduced, the place is sparkling clean and there is plenty of hand sanitiser for guests. Our server was Callum, who was warm and friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, the sourced ingredients and the chef's methods. He anticipated what we might need, bringing extra small plates so we could share some of our dishes and extra bread etc. He kept our drinks topped up and was absolutely brilliant. The menu was simple yet really special. We love seafood so chose some oysters, scallops, hake and monkfish along with deer, chocolate raspberry desert and cheese board. It was utterly delicious! It was a real treat. The atmosphere was casual but refined, we felt very comfortable. A full meal with drinks here can be very expensive but this was a special occasion for us and we had planned for it. We did not skip any courses, but it wasn't any more expensive than restaurants of similar quality back in Bristol, where we live. All in all, it was a lovely evening and we don't have a bad word to say about the place.

We drove across the island around 45minutes to visit the Three Chimneys restaurant and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by very attentive and friendly staff who even placed our napkins across our laps for us. We were given complimentary taster to start with various bread and butters (see photos). There was not one thing that we ordered that wasn’t delicious, we just wished there was more! The restaurant is expensive however it is in line with the gorgeous locally sourced food and exceptional service from staff. Perfect for a special occasion or a great quality meal while in Skye. The restaurant design itself is also lovely.

Hi Emma08x...it is really helpful for you to point out that our pricing comes from purchasing the very finest ingredients, most of which come from very dedicated suppliers near to us on Skye. At the moment food costs continue to escalate but we are absolutely committed to providing the purest and the best.

This restaurant is a very special place to eat. The ambiance and decor are beautiful. The tables are decorated with local flowers and the views from the windows are stunning. The food is exceptional. If you are a seafood lover, this is your place. I’m not, but there is plenty on the menu to satisfy all tastes. Portions are manageable, allowing three or four courses to be eaten in a tasting menu, kind of way. The waiter was so helpful both in terms of describing the ingredients in each dish, to explaining when they came from. Loved this place and would highly recommend.

I always wanted to visit the Three Chimneys for a number of years but was never in the area. It had a great reputation. Prior to our Skye visit there was no availability, due to cancellations because of covid we managed to reserve a lunch booking on line last minute but only allowed a table for two.
We called the Three Chimneys and it went straight to voicemail it stated if we leave a voicemail someone would call us back. We did just that and left a voicemail to ask if we could add 1 person to our booking.
The return call never came as promised so we had to leave our daughter with friends.
There was no one to greet us at the door on arrival but this may be due to a shortage of staff as many hospitality businesses are urrently experiencing this. We didn't wait long to be seated.
I found the service a bit robotic, no atmosphere and you could hear every conversation from other guests (no back ground music)
The menu was explained in detail by our server then our drinks order was taken followed by our food choices.
The cold langoustine dish wasn't for me, I didn't enjoy it. Eating a scallop dish from two plates confused me slightly, but everyone is different my preference is to eat food from one plate, saying that the presentation acompliment dish with the scallop dish was impressive and a nice touch.
The cured salmon was over powered by the mackeral mousse which was hidden by a lot of peas......lots of peas....more peas than cured salmon, in fact more peas than the veg served with my venison main course.
The venison portion was poor in my opinion, tiny end piece of venison with four small bits of beetroot for £32 didn't blow me away.
The bread and butter served were very nice, both butters served were light and fluffy bursting with flavour as was the haddock starter and the cod main course.
The courgette & butter sauce served with the cod dish was delicious, our server informed me it was made from the juice of the ham hock with courgettes and butter? It was very tasty and worked really well with this dish.
Both desserts were delightful I loved the garnish that accompanied the chocolate dessert with dfferent textures and lots of flavours it was very tasty.
We had also been booked in to Edinbane lodge on the last night of our road trip to Skye. This was the experience I was hoping for at the Three Chimneys which sadly wasn't achieved.
The above is only my opinion and my experience I didn't leave raving about my experience here which is a shame as I was hoping for something special.

Having eaten here quite some time ago and been blown away by the exceptional food and experience, I had ‘bigged up’ the restaurant to my new partner and was very excited at the anticipation of another wonderful meal.
The menu was promising and my oyster starter had the best, biggest and freshest I’d ever eaten.
The second course promised scorched langoustines with pickled mussels, cauliflower and chestnuts, which I wrongly imagined as a warm dish. It arrived and looked as unexciting as it tasted. Fresh out of the fridge, the 2 langoustines and 2 mussels were presented on a bed of cold puréed cauliflower with a drizzle of congealed jus. At £15 quite a hefty price!
The main of halibut was cooked to perfection and the wild mushrooms were a delight.
I chose pear with walnut ice cream and date cake for dessert. The waiter explained the dish as coming with a pear tatin, which sealed my choice. The pear tatin comprised of half a pear which was barely heated through, let alone caramelised, with hints of savoury. The pastry was hard and rubbery. I didn’t find and date cake, but the walnut ice cream was delicious.
All in all it was a nice meal, but with the hefty price tag and restaurant reputation I did expect a much better meal.
It may have been the Covid restrictions that contributed to a restaurant lacking in ambience or atmosphere, but there was a fireplace that wasn’t used, candles that weren’t lit and waiters that were perfunctory rather than warm and welcoming.

The food was lovely although not to the same standard as our last visit. Just be aware of the high drinks charges. When we arrived we were offered ‘still or sparkling water’ and I accept it’s my mistake I should have said tap water would be fine but I (wrongly) assumed our server meant still tap water or bottled sparkling water. The charge at the end of the evening was £5 for a bottle of water. I also ordered a vodka martini which was a little on the steep side at £14. There seems to be something missing in the atmosphere that was there on previous visits. I understand it’s possibly down to covid and distancing. The tasting menu had a lot to do with it, it just made the experience more special. The menu now is a la carte.

Dear Hermes02, firstly I wish to thank you for your continued support. The social distancing does mean that there is a certain buzz missing that I think is the missing piece of the atmosphere that you are referring to, despite our efforts to add art and plants to make the space seem little bit less empty. We have moved into a ala carte menu, but have designed the menu so that you are able to build your own tasting menu of 5-6 courses if you wish to do so. It seems that this maybe wasn't fully explained to you by the restaurant team and I will pass this feedback to the team.

I was really looking forward to this, we'd wanted to go for years and as Covid restrictions began to lift this was to be a real treat. We had booked for 2 nights during our stay on Skye, lined up taxis and taken smart clothes to make it really special.
The food was good, my salmon came with a pine puree the taste of which will stay with me for ever, it was utterly divine
The wine was magnificent (but expensive) but for me the service lacked the little special something you would expect for a place with this reputation.
The staff were in black but not particularly smart, but the worst bit was the bill.
We were given the wrong one, considerably less than ours should have been. When we pointed this out there was not a word of thanks, just a brisk 'I'll sort that out for you'. For me? Really?
We didn't go back.

We visited with high expectations of a Michelin starred restaurant experience. It seems there is no star - awarded to previous owner. Website has glossy photos of healthy sized dishes without mention of prices. Both slightly convenient omissions.
The atmosphere is fairly non existent. Without soft furnishings like carpets, table linens, curtains or ambient music the only sounds are shoes clacking or the private conversations of neighbouring tables. It felt quite dead. Place settings are sparse - marked tables, a solitary slate plate and help yourself cutlery. Nothing luxurious or indulgent.
The menu is designed as a number of increasingly priced (not increasingly sized) courses. A set tasting menu would have been better. As it was the menu didn’t have natural flow. “Wee nibbles” at £6.50 (delicate Scottish crowdie with pickled beetroot and seeds was the highlight of the meal) followed by first courses at £12 (single cold haddock raviolo with braised leeks served and warmed up by a warm mussel bisque). Second course £17 (single locally caught “easy eat” ie shelled langoustine) followed by third course at roughly £34 (Cod fillet / monkfish tail). Sides (potatoes or braised cabbage £6 each). Deserts £12 (we didn’t have)
As a group opinions were mixed. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Others felt it was ok but underwhelming given our expectations. We definitely would not return nor recommend.

I am veggie and GF so not the easiest to cater for but the three chimneys advertises that these are both options. The drive there was lovely and the setting beautiful. The staff were attentive and the decor classy. The meal started with warm homemade gf bread and the most delicious whipped butter. I was very impressed and it set the tone for a great meal. However after I had sent in my order for a starter and main from the gf menu, the waiter returned saying my main wasn't gf. I had to then order two starters instead as the only other option was not to my taste. One starter was nice and one not, almost raw pieces of leek with some sauces. It also had a gluten pastry which had to be removed from my plate after it had been served. The dessert again just didn’t have the flavours. When I m paying high prices for small portions I expect the flavours to be stunning. Sadly this was not the case for me or my two guests, one veggie and one had fish paired with ham? Non of us had the experience we hoped for definitely not worth the price and I won’t be returning or recommending I m afraid. Such a shame I so wanted it to be wonderful.

We were so looking forward to dinner at the Three Chimneys after hearing good things about the restaurant. We booked a table 4 months in advance for dinner on a Tuesday night.
Unfortunately we were given a table opposite the front door and the door was constantly being left open, so it was really breezy.
The food menu was nice but there wasn't a huge amount of variety (for example 2 out of the 6 starters were scallops). Our courses were very nice and presented well.
The service was polite, however it was slow and slightly awkward at times. We had to ask for someone to take away our empty glasses when we'd finished our drinks and they had brought us new ones. In addition they forgot to bring our coffees over at the end of the meal despite ordering.
Overall the food was nice, however the whole experience didn't quite meet expectations. When paying a premium at a high quality restaurant you expect excellence which unfortunately wasn't the case.

Dear Erin D
Thank you for your feedback.
I am sorry you were not happy with your table. We take such comments very seriously and have consequently changed the layout of the restaurant on the days with particularly windy weather.
Our menus are seasonal, showcasing the best of the local produce. I’m delighted to know that you have enjoyed our cooking, although we note you found the starter selection to be somewhat limited. We were sorry to read your observations on the shortcomings in service. Your feedback has been shared with our Restaurant team.
I would be delighted to discuss your feedback in more detail and learn how we could have made your visit a better experience. Please contact me directly on kd@threechimneys.co.uk if you would be happy to be contacted.
Kindest regards

My husband and I booked the three chimneys to celebrate our honeymoon.
I have heard wonderful things previously and were really excited to visit.
The location is beautiful and the staff gave a warm welcome.
The drinks selection by the glass was limited, one option for traditional sparkling wine that wasn't exception and was expensive.
The food was underwhelming, my husbands dish was over seasoned, and portions were small.
The service was wonderful, that was certainly one thing they have got right, but overall £170+ for 2 courses, 2 oysters and a couple of drinks was painful.
I have no problem paying for good food, however, felt this did not live up to reputation.
Sadly we were disappointed and wished we had gone elsewhere.

Having waited to visit this famous restaurant for a number of years, the experience was disappointing.
I had booked as a “special birthday” for myself and wife.
The accommodation and welcome was exceptional and beyond fault.
But the primary purpose was dinner.
Entering the restaurant the welcome was underwhelming.
With such an expensive dinner, there were no amuse bouches. Unheard of in my experience at this price level.
Oysters to start were small and poorly served on just seaweed. Not a patch on the previous night at Ees in Oban. Mains being halibut were good but not exceptional.
In fairness the young waiter and the assistant wine waiter were very helpful.
Breakfast the next day was good but not exceptional.
Dinner bed and breakfast close to £60o with a basic wine include at about £80.
Sadly this is an example of what was a famous and exceptional restaurant taken over by a group, and gone from outstanding to mediocre pus, but maintaining very high prices no longer deserved.
With sad reluctance we will not be returning and could no longer recommend.

It's been years since we were in Skye and we were desperate to tick a bucket list thing to do there - visit the Three Chimneys.
Weather was amazing when we arrived and we were excited for our lunch. It kicked off in style with a selection of fabulous breads with yummy butters to accompany them. Great start.
First course and mains were nice. Beautifully presented with real style but maybe lacked a little flavour. Beef Rump with Snails? Not sure that was a combo we'd ever come across and for the size of the beef (3 thin slices) it would have been nice if it had been fillet for the £32 price tag. Dessert was the star of the show. A stunning strawberry, gooseberry and elderflower pavlova that will remain in our memory for a while to come.
Whilst we all know that hospitality is having a hard time just now it was the staff that perhaps let the Three Chimneys down a bit and spoilt the lunch somewhat. A lovely young man served us and explained that he lived on site and had been there about 3 months. Very polite, smartly dressed but just OTT when it came to handling our lunch. Constantly hovering, checking to see if we had finished each course. As soon as your cutlery was down, he was there swooping everything away. We were sat next to a glass window and as he came so often to the window to check on us, we started timing him to see how many times he would appear. 6 times in just over 2 minutes was too much. It's all we could speak about. You are given 2 and a quarter hours for lunch, we were outside after 3 courses and coffee in just over an hour and a half. For the money, we felt rushed.
So, if they could calm down the lovely waiter and just get him to relax a bit, it would have been more fun.
However, bucket list now ticked...

We visited The Three Chimneys for a birthday celebration. Being a party of vegetarians and vegans we were unsure whether a restaurant renown for local seafood and meat would be able to cater for us all but we need not have worried. A separate vegetarian and a separate vegan menu gave everyone fabulous options and all of the food was delicious. The service was first class and their covid-19 planning was perfect. Would highly recommend for a very special meal with exceptional service.

We ate at a few "notable" restaurants during our trip and this one was the best! The food was delicious (we had the tasting menu) and the service was relaxed and friendly. It was obvious that the front of house was suffering from some inexperience at the time of our visit but nothing that was an issue. The home distilled gin is sooo good and I bought a bottle to take home. From the drop off and pick up by Donda at Dunvegan Taxis to every detail of the meal, I would highly recommend it.
