We ordered about 70 dollars worth of Gus's via doordash. We ordered 3 combo dinner plates and then 2 additional thighs, a small mac n cheese l, am order of fries, and an order of greens..We get our order and it's completely wrong. Everybody got...Potatoe salad even though no one ordered any... no mac, no greens, and no fries. One of the 3 piece meals is missing a piece. The whole order is just wrong. So we call up to Gus's. The first time someone answered she just said "hello" when we asked was this Gus's...she hung up. 😑 Called back again and then got the same girl who at least have a greeting this time. We went on to explain what happened and she keeps cutting my mom off. My mom literally had to ask for a manager just to get a cordial person on the PHONE. The manager who after placing blame on Door Dash (even though they can't pack the food or even go in your food to check that your order is right) then offered to have the missing made if we would come and pick it up....mind you, we got it delivered, between the two representatives of the company it makes you never want to order another thing from them again. Their customer service is the absolute worst.More

My wife and I were on our way to the home show in Cordova. As we drove past the restaurant, I mentioned that this was the original Gus’s chicken. She had seen it on tv and said let’s stop. I had been there before, it...was her first. My wife is not really a fried chicken person. If you’re in a hurry, each meal is cooked when ordered. It’s well worth the wait. I have to say, my wife was impressed. She started calling her friends to tell them about her experience.More

I love stopping in here when my schedule allows me to. Chicken is always fresh and HOT! I have eaten at a few other Gus' restaurants but they just don't compare to the Original!

I will admit, I sincerely miss the original Gus's in Mason. Our first time there, many years ago, we didn't know what to expect. When we rolled up there was a shirtless fat white dude on the porch of the shotgun shack, wearing bib overalls....I kid you not, he had a quart of beer hanging from the thumb of one hand and a chicken leg in the other. We knew then we were at the right place. The only light inside was cast from two bare light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, one over the "dining room" and one over the "kitchen"...the place was filled with acrid smoke that burned our throats and made our eyes water. Service was spare, the bathroom door didn't close all the way, and if you wanted less than a quart of beer, you had to share one. We loved it. And THE CHICKEN WAS TO DIE FOR. It still is. Sadly, the place was renovated after a fire several years ago so it lost some of its original panache, unfortunately it is more civilized...it's better lit, and you can't really see the kitchen from the dining room anymore. Single beers are normal, there isn't any smoke, and it looked like the bathroom door closes now. Service isn't much better and it takes a long time to get your order so consider yourself warned. No one should go to Gus's for anything but world class fried chicken...because they do that exceptionally well.More

Gus’s fried chicken is the best I’ve had in my 58 years. Crispy thin batter with good spice, not really hot, just delicious. I got a thigh and breast...the thigh was just killer! Wonderful! The breast had a bone poking out, and they thought I’d...like another piece so a second one came while I was eating. Great beans and slaw too. And the server was so friendly and fun. I learned that all the other Gus’s now are franchises as they sold the recipe and name. Hundreds will be opening worldwide. This location is the ONLY one still in the family. Come here and experience the original. This may be my only trip to Memphis...glad I got this one off the bucket list.More

This is the original location of what is now 26 restaurants in 12 states. It's a rustic classic with mismatched furniture, walls filled with newspaper clippings of articles about the restaurant, and some of the best fried chicken to be found anywhere.

We were actually on our way to Memphis for BBQ, but this place was highly recommended for their chicken. Glad we stopped. We each ordered just a single piece to try it with no sides. They cooked it after we placed our order. The crispiest,...best tasting fried chicken skin over ever had. The meat was moist and tasty. One word of caution...it is spicy. I wouldn't call it hot, but if you don't like any heat at all, you might not care for it. The prices are definitely reasonable, though, so take the chance and try it.More

We decided to stop off here on our way to Memphis from Nashville. It looks pretty basic but the food was tremendous. Nothing fancy and not expensive but the quality was outstanding. Cooked to order, juicy chicken encased in a spicy batter. The fried green...tomatoes were stupendous too. KFC will never, ever be the same. Colonel Sanders eat your heart out.More

Looks can be deceiving BUT don’t be fooled as this place is the original REAL DEAL on Gus’s!!! Resembles a wider shotgun styled Louisiana roadhouse from the street but it’s a very great Chicken restaurant in the small town of Mason. Mrs Louise C was...our wonderful waitress and Boy was she ever busy today. Folks from Mississippi, Texas, Wisconsin, Western Canada & other close cities in the state of Tennessee. It was great & People were friendly & helpful. We enjoyed the wings the 2 piece dark chicken with beans slaw and white bread. As appetizers we tried fried pickles and fried green tomatoes. No fried okra available or fried rice to try!!! The staff was friendly knowledgeable and courteous. Food was delicious and very tasty! Many told us that they stop in at least once per week for the chicken, and they sat and chatted with us as they waited for their bags to go! Some even returned for more takeout as we dined... This is where Gus’s made its reputation from the beginning and it’s still attractive to many in the area or traveling through! Be sure to ask for The Autograph Register to SIGN!!! We definitely enjoyed all the food and even the Chess Pie was delicious!!! Our 97 yr old Auntie was determined to take us here for lunch... We are so very happy she did given the history & Fantastic Food served here. Mac N Cheese & sweet tea & lemonade too. Thanks Mrs Louise C. You really made our day... Blessings All!!!More
