We called in at the Old Thatch last Sunday just for a beer at lunch time and we were so impressed with the set up we decided to book for Sunday lunch this week. We turned up a bit early and were lucky to find...a parking spot in the main car park ( there is a clue here that the Old Thatch gets busy) The fantastic welcome at the reception desk made the visit worthwhile even before a drink or food. We were shown to our table outside but in a covered area, and perhaps my only criticism of the entire visit was that we had to wait a while for someone to take our orders....But they were really busy. We both ordered beers and the Roast Beef. When the food arrived the presentation on the plate looked great we could not wait to get "stuck in" Under a huge Yorkshire pudding was the beautifully cooked beef and under this the selection of vegetables, Cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, broccoli, carrots parsnips and roast potatoes. It was a mammoth plateful. and all beautifully cooked. We had no room for deserts and left fully satisfied. The staff paid a lot of attention to cleanliness and table were constantly being wiped down, which was good to see, The Old Thatch is dog friendly and there were a couple of large parties dining and above all the staff were all happy and welcoming. I took the trouble to speak with one of the managers, Chris and told him how much we had enjoyed our visit. Will we come back ? Can't wait !!!!!!More

Specifically booked a table in advance requesting a table with leg room as my husband is disabled. Upon arrival, on time was shown to one of the smallest tables in a corner with next to no legroom at all. Alternative offered was to sit outside...in the cold. Not acceptable, and will not be returning. Extremely poor management.More

Even before my visit The Old Thatch is was favourite Dorset Pub. But, what a lovely surprise today! I booked online, a table for one. But with a note saying just “me and my dog”. Talk about feeling welcome! They had set up a little...snack station for my Piper, and a little water bowl. Dining in style is my best friend! Thank you for making us feel special and going the extra mile!!!!More

We pre booked for a lunch sitting today for a family of 3. We wanted a light lunch and found enough options on the menu to suit all of us. Teenage daughter had a kids burger which came with chips and peas and was a...good size for her, hubby had a panini which came with chips and a side salad. I ordered the starter portion of smoked haddock chowder from their specials menu. All three of us enjoyed our choices & would certainly order them again. Two of us had desserts, their Eton Mess looked fab & was enjoyed by hubby. The staff were friendly, helpful & jolly which adds to the experience. We’ve eaten diner here before and will certainly be returning for lunch in the future. We highly recommend The Old Thatch.More

Well worth the diversion off the freeway. Thanks Steve for your care and consideration as we dined. Pub dates back to the 1600s and is a must.

Just moved into the area and found this by chance, looks stunning from the outside and looks did not disappoint.  Early evening visit on a Saturday, 4 in total, 2 oldies, 1 vegan with nut allergy and a 5 year old.  Tom (our server) was knowledgeable...about the menu and very attentive without being in your face.  The food was first class, between us we had the Pork Belly, Fish & Chips, Vegan Pie and fish goujons. All perfectly cooked and the gravy was very tasty and amazing mash. The Thatch has a play area. lots of outdoor seating, pizza bar, country shop (can't wait to go there when it's open) and special events. More

Found this by luck while housesitting in Ferndown. We had roast beef Sunday lunch, what a delight. Staff were all friendly and pleasant couldn't ask for better service. We will be booking again in the week before we go home.

Making the most of these last summer evenings, so decided a friends catch up at The Thatch. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming pub. The new owners have really seen a vision and created a really lovely pub. Have seen all their hard work and kindness to...local community throughout the last few years madness of lockdowns. We thank you and again now back being a regular place to meet up with friends and relax. For all you fur parents - love the dog biscuits given after meals.More

So happy we live around the corner but would happily travel to this awesome pub. We don’t eat out too often but when we do this is a popular choice. Friendly local feel, great food, awesome venue inside and out and no corporate chain in...sight! Thanks to everyone at the thatch!More
