Booked ahead to be sure of a table. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible and we had to ask several times for the available heaters to be switched on. The staff were lovely and supplied blankets and eventually the heaters were switched on. Sadly this didn't...help the temperature of the food, which arrived luke warm. Thought this might be due to eating outside, the distance from the kitchen, and the time taken to deliver food to the table, but even the coffees were luke warm. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff but the food needs to served hot.More
Visited here the first week of meet up / dine out. It was very busy with people who were so happy to see each other again. Service was excellent and lots of staff around. Tables well spaced and lights and heaters all around. Food was...great. They have a lovely country shop with fresh bread and cakes alongside other lovely
Dorset bits if you visit in the day as well. Will definitely be back.More
I visited The Old Thatch for lunch with a friend, Since my last visit, it has been taken over by new management. In truth the, I have always liked the ambience and food that is served there.
However, I was really taken aback by the...wonderful way that the venue has been transformed. The character of this 17th century pub has been both maintained and enhanced in so many subtle ways.
I was immediately struck by the way that all the staff were smiling and appeared so happy to be working there. Many of the servers appear to be quite young, yet their customer-facing skills simply belied their age.
When the main course was served, it simply belittled the word perfection; beautifully presented and the vegetables were cooked in a way that both enhanced and preserved their flavour.
In fact, I found myself enjoying the meal so much that it was hard to make conversation with my friend that I was dining with!
For a dessert, we both chose the "Bailey's Bread and Butter Pudding". Like the main course, it was beautifully presented.
But what a delight when I tasted it! Unlike a traditional Bread and Butter pudding it was light and not at all stodgy. It was perfectly complimented by the Vanilla ice cream that accompanied it.
In short, I simply cannot remember the last time that I have enjoyed such a wonderful dining experience, and at sensible prices.
I really urge people to try this delightful country pub, however, I would strongly caution that those that do may well find themselves addicted to the wonderful ambience and food that is simply to die for!
I will certainly be returning both soon and regularly!More
Booked a table nice position in the sun. Ordered 2 Burgers, over cooked dry and tasteless, cold fries......nice place, from their web page they are advertising for a new chef maybe that will help...servers and welcome great....
We booked well ahead to be sure of a table but there were still spaces. The menu is totally different from the one shown on Quandoo. It has been modernised and now serves really good quality food. We were not disappointed! I had a Chicken...Caesar salad which had plenty of bacon and chicken, and generous dices of parmesan. My husband had the Cod and chips which went down very well! We shared a vanilla cheesecake which was served with an amazing raspberry/vanilla ice cream.
Service was excellent.... very efficient but also friendly.
A wonderful return to a sort of normality.More
Came here today (03/11/2020) with my wife. We both have been here before but just for drinks. This time we came for dinner and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the food even better. I would recommend the belly pork, cooked to...perfection. Thank you the old thatch for an awesome experience!!More
I cannot thank Nick and the staff for being so kind and thoughtful. They all went above and beyond to make sure my family and I were able to have a wake after my mothers funeral in a safe environment, adhering to covid guidelines. The...food was delicious and well presented and the staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be returning and recommending The Old Thatch to our friends!More
I was recommended The Old Thatch by a work colleague and some friends and I wanted to meet up so I suggested here. So glad we did, the tables are all well spaced out for social distancing, hand gel and staff all in masks so...covid friendly. The service was great, staff were lovely. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the meal was amazing. Definitely recommend and will be booking there again!More

Things have changed since you asked the question, the pub did go through some ups and downs, it then shut down about September last year and opened a month ago after a refurbishment. The place looks smarter, cleaner with pleasant paintwork. We did however find a difference with the food, it was tasty enough but the portions were quite a bit smaller and the price of the meal for four of us with drinks was over £20 more than our last visit in early September 2018.
