We were a couple of friends who like to do dinner occasionally. The bar area was busy when we arrived. Lovely atmosphere. I ordered a large Gin and tonic, my friend had a Di Saronno with lemonade. Free poured spirits are not legal in Guernsey, I believe. Both drinks were drowned by the mixers, neither of us were asked if we wanted the mixers poured in. We were seated at a small round table in the corner, quite an uncomfortable position, despite the fact that the tables each side of us were empty. For main courses I had the lamb rack, pink. Great, but the chef needs to learn how to render the fat and rest the meat. My partner had the fillet Wellington. She was told it would be medium rare but it was very rare in parts. I want to like Balthazar but I feel it is a bit of a triumph of style over substance. The faux flowers in the ceiling are tired. A cubicle in the gents with a post it note asking you not to use it pelase (sic) is not what you expect from a restaurant that should be aspiring for more. Being served by a girl chewing gum did nothing to improve my opinion.

What a treat ....I had king prawns tempura to start which was simply delicious, my companion had king prawn and crab on a bed of gem lettuce. We both had Chateaubriand to follow. The steak was cooked to perfection, moist and succulent and soooooo tasty. Accompanied by truffle and parmesan coated chips and French beans with crushed roasted almonds ... simply divine. The atmosphere was great, service exceptional and fabulous background music just finished off a great dining experience. Definitely worth a visit ❤

A large group of friends went here to welcome in the New Year. Food was excellent. Starters of oysters and whitebait were very tasty and my partner and I both had the Beef Wellington which was juicy and pink inside with a great pasty and ju to compliment the meal. Compliments to all - never easy to serve great food to such large crowds. Would go back again anytime.

A flashy place that promises much and delivers little .... Oysters "au naturel" as the menu styles them, should be freshly opened, smell of the sea and be served on ice with some bread and butter to accompany them. The oysters we were served were warm and insipid with none of the exciting taste of the sea and with nothing to accompany them except a glass of champagne that was warm too. This disappointing start was followed by more disappointment: a prawn salad with soggy tasteless prawns that had a whiff of ammonia and a rib-eye steak (medium rare) said to come from the best butcher in Scotland. At a guess the prawns must have come precooked from an industrial caterer and the meat had either been frozen or cooked straight from a chilled drawer because it had a squidgy texture without being tender and little of the taste you would expect from such distinguished provenance. "Tempura" prawns and calamari were just edible but hardly a gastronomic treat. It might be unrealistic to expect better from what is essentially a cocktail bar but it is disappointing none the less particularly as the place has its pretensions and the prices are high.

Slightly overpriced. Average food and lack of vegan options. I went here the place is very expensive for what it is and the food isn’t unpleasant but it’s just average. They only had one vegan option when I went there which was unfortunate because it was basically steamed cauliflower with spinach put in a bit of pastry. Would I go back? Yes if I was just drinking there isn’t any point in eating there if you are vegan.

Fairly empty on a wet January day but the staff were welcoming and efficient. I had a very good fried seafood mix and there were many other lovely fish dishes on the menu. My vegetarian wife enjoyed a Camembert

This restaurant was recommended by the locals and for good reason. If you want good food and are prepared to pay for it this is for you. My wife and I, went here for our 40th anniversary so an intended good meal is what we wanted, was not disappointed. From the get go the staff were courteous and professional nothing was to much, and they knew the menu inside out. My wife had steatartersk which melted in her mouth, I had rack of lamb cooked to perfection, the starters of frogs legs and muscles need a thumbs up as well....soooo good. If you have time and want a relaxing evening meal, then go to this restaurant you won't be disappointed. Alison & Mick

The atmosphere is good in Balthazar as it is arranged in a nice "tunnel" like setting. The tables are laid out nicely and it has a clean, modern feel to it. The food was really good and the house wine too. The slightly odd thing was that the fish on the specials menu was stated to be in short supply and given that it is the daily specials, how come the seabass was not available! Despite this peculiarity I would recommend Balthazar as an excellent choice in St. Peter Port.

Amazing space, excellent staff and awesome food. They fitted us in at short notice and we enjoyed the individual Beef Wellington, which was the main reason for dining there. Well located on the waterfront and has an excellent bar as well. Great dining experience.

First time at Balthazar. Went to sample the Tennerfest menu. They had lost our booking which was not a good start but found us a table. Also had to fight our way through a load of drinkers at the bar which was unpleasant especially as one of us is disabled. Very noisy restaurant with no soft furnishings to absorb the noise. There was a large party next to us who made a lot of noise which made talking to each other and hearing each other difficult. Starter of Salt Cod Fritters was OK although the fritters were a bit tough to eat. Lamb Shank pie was full of fat and had no vegetables on the side. No mashed potato as described on the menu. Passion fruit panna cotta was good. Compulsory 10% service charge! Debatable as to whether or not we will return

The cocktails were fantastic. The staff were great. The door staff even had great recommendations on how to get home. However… the owner was clearly in. And had control over the playlist. What should have been a lovely evening ended up a good evening as the owner kept skipping sounds halfway through to accommodate his ‘girlfriend’. Not good and staff were embarrassed. He employs bar staff to make cocktails, he should employ a DJ to play music.

These days it seems few restaurants exceed expectations. This is one of them . Excellent food and service. The old adage you get what you pay for and this is a classic example . It is not cheap but it is also not expensive when you consider what you get . The portions are generous , the menu has a wide range of choices which are different from the tired and boring menus you see over and over again I had spicy rabbit tacos to start ! Beef Wellington and some peanut butter shortbread to finish and because I am greedy a side of Mac n cheese ..you definitely do not leave hungry . The wine list has a good price range with some excellent wines .The staff are professional , friendly and attentive Thank you for a lovely evening. Oh and don’t forget to push the big red button in be ladies toilet !!

On the final day of our honeymoon, we knew we wanted a lobster lunch before our ferry left in the evening. We both ordered a whole lobster each with fries and it was nothing short of spectacular! My mouth is watering thinking about it now. The best lobster we have ever tasted!! It comes with lovely garlic butter and the fries were yummy too! I would sail there from the UK every week for this lunch!

Very enjoyable evening. We had dinner here on a Thursday evening & it was pleasantly busy, although the bar area got buzzing later. Seated in a nice private alcove. The atmophere & food were very good. More vegetarian options would be good - the choice was quite limited. Would recommend.

We visited this restaurant twice as the service and food were excellent. Our waiter Lev was very attentive, and made food recommendations to us. The portion size is quite large, so ended up sharing a starter. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
