We visited the house on a Sunday. Visits are by timed entry and while you wait, there is a beautiful garden to sit in with wonderful views. Not knowing much about Victor Hugo, we were very open minded and the enthusiasm of the young guide was clear to see from the outset. the house is absolutely fascinating and you quickly... More

Having read some good reviews I wanted to visit this house so tried twice to go. The first time, due to getting lost on the way, we arrived at approximately 4.15pm only to find it shut, which, coming from the mainland, was a bit surprising to us as most tourist attractions open until at least 5pm especially in peak season.... I really did not want to go to see a house turned into a museum, but my wife really wanted to see it, so I went along. Boy, was I happy I did. You are guided through the home by a docent who related the history of the house but also of Victor Hugo, his family and the times surrounding... More

The female tour guide was excellent and a credit to the service. We had a great couple of hours learning about Victor Hugo's life and his experience and motivations. The house is stunning and in a beautiful location.

Excellent place to go for a little culture and history in Guernsey. Tours run at regular intervals in various languages and they're extremely informative (you aren't allowed to go around the house yourself). The house itself is beautiful and a real metaphor to represent his life (nothing like anything I've ever seen!) while you're waiting you can have a wander... More

A wonderful visit to the house of the writer of Les Miserables and Hunchback of Notre Dam. Wonderful house full of interesting features .Victor Hugo was somewhat of a recycler using cupboard doors and pottery .Wonderful ambience in the house he was exiled to !

Superb coffee and mouth watering pain au chocolate. Has had a refit since our last visit, and the layout is much improved. Very unusual breads and pain. Staff always friendly and service good. All items can be seen being baked in the premises.
