As an accomplished cooker, often single-handed who has provided sustenance and charm to visitors for many decades, often there are noticeable little things which take the shine off eating out . So when a friend asked me to join her Birthday Party at the Bass and Lobster I was delighted to have the opportunity of going there for the first time, no reason for that, just wanted the occasion and time. What surprised me was that as soon as I entered I could absorb a warm vibe. You knew that even if the food was different to what you would normally eat, it was going to be selected, cooked and served by professionals to a very high standard, No disappointments, no complaints, no criticism. Even had draught beer on tap @ £4,50 a pint to refresh the palette at the outset of a memorable evening, Tops Tops !!!

What a treat, everything from start for finish was perfect. The staff made us feel very comfortable with the social distancing whilst still making us feeling together. The food was amazing, we had the set menu which was fantastic value and all courses were delicious. After our lunch we had a final drink in the sun. Every thing was thought of from the home made breads and homemade oils, hummus and cordial to the outside seating areas (sun spots and shaded areas). We had a great day and will definitely be back. Thank to the whole team for making our first girly lunch an absolute pleasure!

Incredibly attentive staff, and wildly accommodating of dietary restrictions. We had vegetarian and gluten free requirements which were met with delicious substitutions. Food is creative, fun, intricate but each dish is well portioned and phenomenal value for money. You shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit!

Jersey has a Tevnerfest programme from 1.10 to 11.11 each year with many restaurants offer set meals at reasonable prices. They are listed in a newspaper style leaflet delivered to all homes in the Island. We look through each year and choose a few with different to usual menus. We were disappointed that the fish and chips was Coley which is what is normally given to cats. The pork belly was loin and the other items failed in our opinion to match the printed circulated menu. The a la carte was expensive with bass at about £30. We will not be going back as it has deteriorated since we were last there some time ago.

We are sorry you were disappointed with your meal especially as so many people have praised our tennerfest menu even including the Coley fish and chips, which brings us to a very important ethos to us and that is we take our responsibility to source sustainable and locally caught fish, over the last 30 years the enormous fishing trade has decimated certain breeds to almost extinction and we refuse, politely to be part of that. We are in a pandemic which means it can be hard to get certain items at times and all our menu items are subject to availability and may change at the managements discretion. Our bass is more expensive as we do NOT use farmed or frozen and use Jersey line caught bass which of course would be more expensive than inferior sourced bass which most of our customers appreciate and in these times are happy to support us and our fishermen

I had been following the restaurant on Facebook during the lockdown. They were doing fantastic takeaways. We live in St Helier and do not have a car so I was jealous of Gorey. The pictures of the food looked top quality. We got to my birthday and to be honest. Longueville manor would have been first choice but it wasn’t completely up and running yet so this was the chosen venue. First course was oysters in tempura batter. These were good. Main was sea bream. Oh dear. They got it completely wrong. The chef had been celebrating Liverpool winning the league the night before. Drenched in Salt. Absurd amounts of salt. My wife had prawns which were also horribly over seasoned. They took the cost of the meal off the bill but by then it’s all too late isn’t it? You look forward to something and end up leaving not having paid for something which you didn’t eat anyway because the chef was celebrating football. They posted afterwards on Facebook what a superb night it was. That’s great for all the other people but it was my birthday and frankly it was dreadful. Never again.

I feel I need to state in order to be fair that I checked with you about your main courses exactly 4 minutes after you had started to ensure everything was fine ( which I do at every table) at which point you could have made me aware and I could have rectified the matter however no issue was raised until I came to clear there was alot of your wife's prawn caeser left but she indicated she was full (nothing said about seasoning) she did however say yours was to salty even though three quarters of the dish had been eaten so of course the only recompense I can offer at this stage is to deduct from the bill. I am disappointed too that you did not enjoy. The reason we posted on our social media that we had a good night was because of the outright praise from every other table except yours (who did not allow us the time to rectify any issue so you COULD enjoy your meal) so must gather even though we did have a Chef who had celebrated Liverpools win the night before he was more than up to his job the next day.

The four of us couldn’t fault our meal from starters to coffee and dessert. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly, we felt so welcome from the moment we stepped out the car. We enjoyed the homemade breads to start and couldn’t have been more impressed by the starters when they quickly arrived. We had the lobster tempura, scallops, stuffed courgette flower (special menu) and tempura oysters. The fact so many of the ingredients were locally sourced just made everything taste even better. After this fantastic start we then had our mains: fish (of the day) with parmesan truffle chips, bass with truffled potato croquette, and the mackerel. Like the starters, each dish was absolutely delicious, so well thought out and balanced. None of us wanted to miss out on dessert, the chocolate and hazelnut brownie was perfect and gooey, the Bakewell tart was great and the vast selection of ice creams (loved the cinnamon and hazelnut caramel) were so wonderful and creamy with flavours to suit everyone! We were then surprised by homemade chocolates which were brilliant. We are a family of good cooks but none of us could have expected or even cooked a better meal ourselves. Everything here was cooked to perfection. We can’t wait to return for another meal, clear out the ‘larder’ homemade chilli jam supplies, and couldn’t recommend the bass and lobster more strongly! Thank you!

Expect a very warm welcome when visiting the restaurant. The restaurant is proud to use local products and advertise the source of their foods. Of particular note on our visit, was the monk-fish which was extremely tender and also my partner's fish and chips which he pronounced to be the best he had ever had, with crispy light batter. The restaurant provides delicious homemade bread with various accompaniments whilst you are waiting for your meal. Highly recommended.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and it didn’t disappoint. A 3 course set menu with lots of choice hard to decide what to have. We went with Green soup and whitebait both had roast Beef and plum and apple crumble defiantly what was needed on a rainy cold day I think I used the word stunning ! Service is very welcoming and friendly and strict with following covid guidelines which is great to see. Looking forward to getting booked in again for a different menu during the weekdays. Definitely one not to miss!!

This restaurant is wonderful. The set menu constantly changes which makes the regulars very happy indeed. The al la carte is varied and I could honestly eat any one of the dishes, everything on the plate compliments the main star, the venison, the local pork, sea bass and lobster. The front of house staff will explain where the ingredients come from, most of the meat, fish and veg have travelled less distance than the diners! Ask for the ultimate cheese board, it is not what you would expect but is a cheese lovers dream. The bonus is a surprising low bill!

From arriving at The Bass and Lobster, we received nothing but excellence! Fabulous greeting and service from Kirstie and her team, her knowledge and explanation of the menu made us excited to order and taste what was on offer! We were not disappointed. Oysters were sweet, best I’ve ever tasted! We ordered 4 but I had to have three as they were so delicious (my poor hubby)! We then had Chris and Chloe Gould’s scallops, broccoli, pea purée and crisp bacon curls, not forgetting Freddie’s quail eggs ... what can I say apart from my taste buds were exploding as this combo nailed it! I then had the Sea Bass and Tempura Lobster, my husband had Mackerel. Both fish cooked to perfection, complimented with purée and croquet and The Mackerel, Jersey potatoes and green beans - delicious! I had to try the Apple and cherry Bakewell tart with jersey ice cream and a creamy custard, it sounded too good to be true but I wasn’t disappointed. Compliments to the chef for the most delicious meal we have ever had the pleasure of tasting and Kirstie for your fabulous warm welcome and your teams impeccable Covid-19 precautions and service! This restaurant source all local ingredients, it’s fresh and creatively put together leaving you wanting more! I can’t speak highly enough and definitely recommend visiting, you won’t be disappointed and “we will be back” on our next visit. Thank you for a fabulous, memorable evening.

So full disclosure: when we first saw the menu, we thought it looked a bit pretentious. But we were wrong: the food was AMAZING! We almost went out of our way to come back the next day. The homemade bread and hummus were a great start and the food only got better from there. The menu features local ingredients (see the signs in the bathroom for details) and the dishes made the most of them. Dessert was delicious with a selection of interesting ice creams to choose from, including Stilton blue cheese. An unexpected highlight was the Bloody Mary sorbet - again, we were sceptical seeing it on the menu, but we could definitely have gone for seconds. The owners were really friendly and welcoming; they were attentive to all their customers and really cared about you having a great experience. Finally, we thought the value was excellent: the price was very reasonable for the quality of food, especially in Jersey where restaurants can be quite expensive (and we're used to London prices!). We will be recommending this place to anyone going to Jersey and will definitely be back.

I went to the Bass and Lobster for sunday lunch with some friends. My vegetarian roast was an absolute treat and my meat eating friends were also very happy. The staff were amazing, we felt so well looked after. I had such a great meal that despite only having 6 days in Jersey I insisted on returning for a second visit with my parents. This visit was equally good, we had the feast in the east menu for lunch and It was amazing to have such beautiful food for just £20 for 3 courses with again brilliant service from the staff. Can’t wait for my next trip home so I can come back again. Thank you!

Every month my partner and I go out for a nice relaxed lunch and have to say that this place is by far our favourite. We simply cannot recommend The Bass & Lobster highly enough - seasonal, locally sourced and foraged ingredients - Kirsty at front of house is absolutely delightful, sharing her and chef hubbys passion for great food 😊 Always get a big smile and a warm welcome. The food is exceptional having now been countless times; lazy lunch, Sunday lunch and evenings, I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal here. These three courses x 2 for £25 each (both had soup and creme brûlée) and the wine won’t set you back a fortune either. Great food, great value for money x

Yes, we liked this place. Kirsti (front of house) and Dave (chef) have something really good going here. Great local suppliers (who they laud on page 1 of the menu), a good spot on the seafront in Gorey, and lots of local regulars. But all of that is because the food is sensational. We had a roly-poly suet savoury, and local crab to start, a succulent steak and mackerel for mains and leaning cheesecake and homemade ice creams for dessert. All beautifully presented with fabulous sauces and decorative touches. Kirsti made a big effort to make us feel at home and even explained the menu and her favourites. They even sell their own oils and jams.
