This is the cooking that chef Sudu learned as a child. Armed with his mother's homemade spices (she sends them over every two to three weeks) Sudu set to work, introducing a slice of Sri Lanka, and the cuisine he loves, to foodies around the island. The authentic decor - a team effort, which both Sudu and his partner worked hard to create, sets the backdrop for his first big adventure - Unawatuna - an original name to represent the unique cuisine.

My husband and I spotted this restaurant whilst walking around the town. We booked online for the same evening and got a confirmation very quickly. I am of Sri Lankan mix and can honestly say this food is of 100% Sri Lankan authenticity. The staff...More

I ate here recently for a work Christmas dinner. What a great selection for vegans/vegetarians! The typical dining experience as a veggie is often a simple, unimaginative veggie option almost as a afterthought...not at the Unawatuna! Their menu is balanced with interesting (and most importantly...More

Delicious dinner for our wedding in September. Unawatuna catered well for the mostly veggie/vegan group with an all you can eat set menu. The food quality was as always superb! Highly recommend for any occasion though! Very friendly staff!!

Visited several times, can’t go wrong with the Kukul mas chicken and a glass of merlot - consistently delicious, wonderful after a full in day, recommend!

I’ve eaten here twice now, once with a friend and another time with a big group. The food has been really tasty both times. They have a great selection of veggie and vegan curries as well as meat and fish dishes. I will happily eat...More

Ate here with friends last night for the first time. Loved the idea of sharing curries. 6 curries between us including 2 veggie. All had flavour but not too spicy. Catfish curry was my favourite - not something I have ever tried. Service was friendly...More

We ate at Unawatuna last night and were very pleased with the experience, despite the prior reviews. We had a choice of table on arrival and the staff gave us enough time to settle in and look at the menu. We opted for the veggie...More

This was the first time trying Sri Lankan cuisine and it was a true delight. The service was really good and the meals were excellent. The chicken and mango special was stunning, the spices the meat were all delicious as was the sambal accompaniment. Overall...More

My wife and I tried to eat here, but the manager made that impossible. We arrived quite early for dinner, and there was just one other couple in the whole restaurant, so we chose a table a polite distance away from them. But the manager...More
