FIRST NIGHT IN ST HELIER

We had flown into Jersey mid-afternoon and were wanting something to eat very early evening, having been hanging around airports etc for a large part of the morning/afternoon. La Bastille caught our eye and we thought it seemed our sort of place. I had mushrooms on toast as a starter then a delicious chicken breast main course. My friend had the charcuterie platter to start followed by the lobster salad. We both had a large glass of white wine too. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was a little lacking but this was probably down to the fact we chose to eat at 6 pm. Our waiter was a little too interested in his mobile phone, I have to admit, and we had to attract his attention on more than one occasion. Would I eat here again? Yes. It was a little overpriced we thought but the food was excellent.

I visited her on NYE with my girlfriend. We had booked this quite late but they managed to fit us in which is great. Right from when we got shown to our table we felt really comfortable and well looked after. The staff were very accommodating and it was a nice chilled out ambience for New Year's Eve. We weren't rushed for drinks or menu choices. We asked the Maître d' Karl as what wine he would recommend for what we were eating and I must say, he was spot on with his recommendation. Our wine arrived and shortly after we received our starters. The presentation of the food was very good and the food didn't dissapoint either, it was delicious. Our main courses arrived in good time and they were very nice too. Then when it came to choosing desserts it was a hard choice. We asked about a few of the desserts and we made our choices. When the desserts arrived we weren't dissapoint as they were very nice and well presented. They completed the evening perfectly. I must give a massive thanks to the Maître d' Karl, we was very knowledgeable and was really helpful when helping us make dessert choices. I will certainly dine here again.

We ate here on a Friday evening by luck as most places we passed were either sports bars or didn’t serve food that evening. What a marvellous meal we had. I could not fault the service or the quality of the food. Chicken breast cooked to perfection. The Pinot Grigio wine was good. Would go back again and again.

Very mixed experience. Lovely little restaurant. Chef clearly knows what he's doing as the food was very nice and the wine menu is exellent. However from as soon as I sat down it felt like the staff were trying to get rid off me and get the next customer in. And while it's not a really expensive restaurant when starter, main and desert ranges from £45-80 you kind of expect to be full after. The main course more the size of a light starter. If your not particularly hungry and would like a nice glass of wine and a light meal(maybe it's better for lunch) then this is a lovely place. However if you want a decent dinner go elsewhere

Lovely food but meagre portions

We ate dinner here and, although the food was lovely, it was a bit meagre. I ordered the catch of the day which turned out to be sea bream served with seasonal vegetables. I expected a whole fish but it was one fillet, a very small fillet. It was served on a bed of vegetables which consisted of some small jersey royals, one piece of broccoli and one piece of carrot. It looked and tasted beautiful but I was left feeling short changed. My husband had the roast chicken which was slightly more substantial but we both felt that the vegetables it was served with were meagre. We were glad that we had ordered bread and dips to share and nibble on whilst we were waiting for our main. We also waited 50 minutes for our meal to arrive. Yes it was freshly cooked to order which we appreciated though the restaurant wasn’t full by any means just moderately busy, the waiting staff were charming but….we won’t return.

Engagement Party in La Bastille Bar & Brasserie in St Helier

We would like yo say big big thank you for all of the staff in La Bastille Bar & Brasserie in St Helier. They assured that our engagement party was planned to perfection and run smoothly. All guests was soo happy and they keep saying how amazing party that was. Alex and Norica you are so professional, polite and efficient !!! Nothing was too much trouble for these 2. During the preparation Alex was a huge help for us offering lots of ideas and help during the preparation. Guests was so happy and their glasses was always full. At last but not least big thank you to fantastic head Chef (Florin) which was a pleasure to work with. He have crated buffe with food soo delicious that we cant describe- so I have shared some photos. During the party he was keep topping up the buffe to make sure that nothing is missing for the guests! Chef helped us to create great selection of food and found time to go trough menu with us one evening after his very busy schedule. I hope you reading this and if so please know that you did incredible job ! We couldnt be more happy! All La Bastille staff created for us beautiful memories ! So if you planning some event with delicious food accompanied by fantastic friendly staff, please choose La Bastille as you will be not disappointed! Huge recommendation for these place ❤️

Nice place great food

The best fillet steak we have had in a long time. Perfectly cooked . Good calamari shame the onion rings were overdone and not piping hot. Good German 🍺 and a lovely bottle of Cabsav . A really nice experience.

A brilliant find

What a brilliant find. We came across the restaurant on a Monday evening when a lot of places were closed. When we arrived the Manager was very honest and told us we would have to wait a while for our meal as the kitchen was very busy. We sat on a table outside and gave us the menu y to look at and he took our order. We did not have to wait too long for the food - when it arrived, Katsu chicken curry and crab linguine. The food was simply stunning - fresh and flavoursome and very well presented. Portion was just right left you feeling satisfied. We enjoyed it do much that we returned on the Thursday evening which was our last night.I highly recommend you go to this restaurant - you will not be disappointed. Look no further.

We chose this restaurant after reading the reviews especially the one that said the best steak in town. After visiting it on 12th June we ordered a steak and it was really really good. Slight issue with the missing sauce but the chef came out to apologise personally with the sauce. Top quality place, top staff, you won't be disappointed.

La Bastille is located is the busy central part of St Helier. It has a pleasant ambience. On the evening we went it was full, so booking in advance is probably a good idea. The staff were warm, friendly, obliging and attentive. The food is excellent. My wife and I both went for the Pork Belly Roll at £20. It was mouthwateringly delicious. We a shared Panacotta for dessert at £10. To drink we had a bottle of Los Vascos Sauvignon at £25. Together with the 10% service charge the bill came to £82.50 – excellent value for a quality dinner. There is no shortage of good restaurants in St Helier but you wouldn’t go wrong in going to La Bastille.

Superb food with friendly, efficient service.

Superb visit, couldn’t be faulted. The caprese salad and garlic prawn starters were superb. The medium rare sirloin was cooked to perfection, with great sides of mushrooms and onion rings. The sea bass was excellent on a bed of flavourful risotto. Sorbets were really nice too. Highly recommended. Service from Adrian was top notch, friendly and efficient. Whole meal was real value for money compared to prices paid elsewhere.

So, we got recommended and followed up. We were greeted by David , who was awesome. We arrived at the bar and he took us through to the resto to meet his wife. We were given a treat of lovely food, that was well priced; but more importantly the service was warm and attentive and we felt private but listened to a great level of music that hit the spot. We are going back!

Lovely meal for couples dining

We enjoyed the Katsu curry and Jersey crab linguine with a bottle of French Sauvignon blanc, followed by creme brulee. Service was included and we were well looked after. The bottle of wine really complemented the meal and as the cheapest of the house wines, did not feel as if we had stinted. The crab linguine was delicious. Chunks of crab were really tasty and I enjoyed this immensely. My partner had the chicken katsu curry which was equally as delicious. The creme brulee was well presented with sharon fruit and shortbread. It was delicious. I would highly recommend this establishment. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere with twinkly lights on the ceiling to add to the ambience.

A really nice evening.

We have been meaning to eat at 'La Bastille' for a while and went last night with friends. A few drinks outside under the canopy (despite the rain) went down well and the Provence rose and other wines were reasonably priced. We were given a nice booth table inside the restaurant which was pleasantly full, even for a Monday night and service was friendly and efficient. We all opted for the Prawn and Chorizo starter which was really tasty and we all agreed it was a very good choice. My wife went for another starter as her main, the Crab and Avocado salad which was nice and light and she opted for a side of Belgian Fries which she declared delicious. Our two friends went for the Teriyaki Duck breast and declared they would order the same again as they really enjoyed it. I went for the 'Not fish and Chips' which was pan fried plaice. As it consisted of two thin fillets of plaice it was a little dry but the tartare sauce was good as was the potato croquette. I probably wouldn't opt for it again but there were plenty of other choices on the menu. We all left declaring we had a really enjoyable evening and were pleased we made the effort to try 'La Bastille'. I am sure we will revisit!

Quite but pleasant interior. Ordered catch of the day turned out to be a very small fillet of Bream with a few potatoes, tasted and looked great but more like a child portion. Politely pointed this out to the waiter who was not interested.
