We stayed here as wer going to a wedding in Ballymagarvey village which is about 5min drive. The staff are unbelievably welcoming. One showed us to our room carrying my suitcase 😊the rooms are lovely big and spotless. Massive really comfy bed. U have all u need fridge hairdryer kettle. They don’t do breakfast but leave individual cereal tea and coffee in the room even milk in the fridge. We decided to have lunch b4 we left as a friend who lives near said the food was beautiful. Well we weren’t disappointed. First time I have ever seen prawn pil pil on the menu 1 of my all time favourite dishes. Normally can only get it likes of Spain. Have to say it was even better than wen I get it abroad!! Other half had the mushrooms which wer massive and delicious. We then had steak and stew unreal!! U won’t be disappointed here. I have been telling everyone about it would even drive the hour and 20mins to have this again xx

Warm reception and great food.

We were passing by and we were attracted by the name. We went in looking for a snack and ended up enjoying a fabulous lunch. A very warm reception and excellent food. Coming from the south of Spain we were particularly impressed by the Gambas Pil Pil!!! We were also pleased that they could accommodate for our Vegetarian daughter.

Worth a visit

Table was booked for 7.30pm, we where shown to our table pretty much on time, didn't have long to wait for ordering drinks and meals, as there was a group of us was impressed with the speed of staff looking after us. Staff, very friendly and chatty and also had face coverings. Menu. very nice choices. Food. was excellent from start to finish. Toilets. i was informed ladies as well as mens where clean. Covid times. all tables where space out Very comfortable night even though it was sat peak time. Full credit to management and staff for a lovely evening.(although not cheap, food is good) Wheelchair friendly Plenty of car park space Have no problem recommending this place, as I will be back.

Quite overpriced, one of the staff members was quite rude when serving us, just no manners towards us when greeting us just got a what do you want and yeah for everything. One of us got a steak and a we had to sent it back as it was so tough dry and just tasted horrible, same server just said oh really are you sure it’s not nice and we assured her it wasn’t nice and said it was tough and said yeah ok and took it away. It was good they didn’t charge as it wasn’t touched much with the oven chips and hard steak and charging for 28 euro should be better. Majority of the staff were quite helpful just the girl in glasses just rolled her eyes anytime you spoke to her and just didn’t make us feel welcomed from the get go, and the fact for jelly and ice cream they actually were asking for 7.50 which just blows my mind costs about 2 euro and there asking for those prices that was the nail in the coffin and we just left not good experience not worth driving out to

Best food In Ireland

Myself,my family and friends are regular visitors to the Snail Box having discovered it over 12 years ago. We have never had a bad experience there and the food has been excellent.UK based friends say that a visit to Ireland is not complete without a visit to the Snail Box. Philip and his staff are friendly and accommodating and all requests for non menu items are dealt with in their friendly manner. The food is excellent with the best of local produce used and the portions certainly need a healthy appetite to deal with them.Our last visit was 6 October just before the Level 3 restrictions went in to operation and the thought of 4 weeks minimum without a visit to this excellent restaurant will make them 4 long weeks.

Just back from dinner with my husband. This place never fails to impress me..from the way we were greeted, your made feel they know you all your life, so professionally friendly.we felt very safe with staff kitted up in their ppe gear, and tables kept to the correct distances.we all want to feel some normality again and this is the first place since lockdown was lifted that we felt a great atmosphere and buzz in the place but with safety.. our order was taken promptly and recieved our courses in the same manner without the feeling of being rushed. Food was fantastic,like everytime we've been here,never have any bad experiences. Keep up the hard work, you are all doing a great job.👏👏

I recently visited this restaurant on a busy Friday lunchtime for the first time since Covid. As always the place was a hive of activity. The food I ordered was nice and in my opinion a little overpriced for a lunch time menu! I had garlic mushrooms for starters which was tasty, followed by a pasta carbonara which was a bit on the watery side! For dessert I had a type of icecream sundae, which at in excess of 7 euro was indeed overpriced for a lunch time menu. The waiting staff was very attentive and we at no time felt rushed.

Amazing place a must go!

I love the snailbox for its amazing food, atmosphere & amazing staff. Today I went with my mother in law who is in a wheelchair. With outside dining the owner and staff were so accommodating when it rained and I cannot recommend highly enough. The place was buzzing and the food did not dissapoint. Of course you can never go wrong with their amazing whipped ice cream with Baileys 🍦🍦😋😋 Thanks for a lovely day out!!

Myself and my husband and two girls were really looking forward to a day out with a nice meal( I’ve been dreaming of going back to the snailbox since April) nSince March this is only our second time out so we were looking forward to it especially me as I didn’t have to cook. We booked on the 20th of September so we gave good timing. When we arrived at 1.24 6 minutes before our time we were shown to our table which was a small booth, then around 10 mins later 4 more people came in and were put sitting in a small booth behind us. I was a bit taken a back with people been seated right behind us with the covid situation going on. I have to say the staff were so professional and very friendly, they were all so helpful as my daughter had allergies and the staff couldn’t be more helpful. When we arrived we weren’t sure if we should wear our masks so I said to my family let’s wait and see what’s on the door so we all had our masks at the ready and then when we arrived there was no signs so we came in with no masks but we did put them on going to the loo. So the food it was ok compared to what I’ve had there numerous occasions before.

A Down hill drop for the Snailbox

Quality, portion size, taste, flavors, and service took a dive!!! Nothing like the restaurant it was. I have been going there for years, yesterday 7 may 2022 will be my last visit. Hiked up price, the portion so much smaller......the chicken stirfry just a bowl of greace with 2 small pieces of chicken. The Irish stew was a bowl of a packet of oxtail soup with sparingly pieces of the cheapest stewing meat Management are obvisouly trying to get their covid losses back at the expense of the customer. Shame as it used to be a place with a decent name and of a certain standard. That standard has dropped dramatically. Never Again!!!

Superb from the Snailbox

Take a bow Snailbox team.. the food, the staff and the atmosphere was just superb. Everyone should come here and experience hospitality at it's best and real good food. Loved all three courses and my food choices, the wings were amazing, the stirfry was gorgeous and the honeycomb ice cream was a real treat. Price points were good, portion sizes were just right and the attention to detail from each staff member was just fantastic. In a busy restaurant, they made it look effortless. Every dish that came out and passed by me looked great. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend it to others.

Lovely Setting and Great Meal

We had a lovely family dinner in The Snailbox, such a warm, welcoming, friendly place. The setting is quite eclectic with 6,600 caps hanging on the ceiling! There's a lovely view too as the place is on a very raised site. The food was really good. Between us all we had the burger, bass and the hake, very generous helpings and very tasty. The dessert list is quite comprehensive with all sorts of ice creams a speciality Prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for to be fair. Plenty of parking, just off the main road and well worth a visit.

A Gem of a Place

We happened upon this restaurant accidentally. We had just arrived in Ireland after a delayed flight with hours of traveling behind us, and cranky, hungry people. We were just beginning to navigate driving,. We had made a wrong turn, and as we tried to turn around (not very successfully) a family stopped us and asked if we needed help. We explained that we were looking for somewhere to eat that would accommodate our party of 14, and they directed us to this restaurant. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door by every person working that we passed. They seated us immediately. Our waiter, Mark, was friendly, energetic, and very quick and efficient. Our meals were hot and delicious. With so many people, there were a variety of items ordered from soups (fantastic and highly recommend), sandwiches, burgers, pastas, curries, and chicken dinners. The meals all came out hot, and everyone was extremely happy with what they ordered. But what made this experience truly spectacular was the selection of baseball hats that are hanging from the restaurants ceiling. There is a story behind it that you should check out for yourself. Several of the members of our party contributed to the collection and were pleasantly surprised by their gift in return. Truly a gem of a place!!

Fab Dinner & Lovely Team

We dined here on the 07/09 and we will definitely be dining again soon. The food was delicious, we had the Chicken Tower, the Sea Bass and the Chicken Curry and all were presented well. On top of this the team were fantastic. They organised a surprise for my nephew who had turned 21 and were just friendly and down to earth in general. Will definitely be visiting again soon and would recommend to all.

We booked the restaurant for 8.15 on a Sunday evening- large restaurant and bar - great service and atmosphere We both had the beef stir fry and it was excellent,beef lovely and tender. Prices were good also not over the top. Definitely worth an other visit Gerry Browne
