About
Our restaurant got its start in 1968 when Bunt King came home and announced to his wife Helen that he had found the perfect location for a steak house. Much discussion of the pros and cons of opening a family restaurant filled their home until the decision to take the chance was finally made. Ye Olde Steak House began when friends and family pulled together to help create a friendly, rustic, down-home atmosphere that still exists today. Over four decades, Ye Olde Steak House is still owned and operated by the King family. Bunt passed away in 1987, and Helen in 2003; now their three children - Nancy, Cheryl, and David continue with the family tradition. Even some of the grandchildren help out when possible. More than forty years, serving the best Iowa grain-fed beef has been customary. Thanks to our wonderful customers, a dream has become reality. We appreciate our customers, both new and old, and hope to serve 'steaks cooked to perfection' for many years to come.

Had reservations for a table of 7 on a Saturday night at 6:00 PM. The place was packed. We got the 2nd to last parking spot at the top of the hill. A parking attendant was very helpful in organizing the vehicles. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Service was good overall. All of the servers I saw were definitely working hard and moving fast, including our server. Tables and walkways were very cramped. I couldn't relax and lean back in my chair with people walking behind me throughout the meal. I always had to lean forward. My 10 oz. Ribeye was cooked medium well, and I had ordered medium, but that wasn't really a problem. I gave only 3 stars for this review was for two reasons: 1. My ribeye quality was definitely not $30 ribeye quality. It was definitely on the tough side, and had too much gristle. And 2., as others have mentioned in their reviews, the cheese spread with a tongue depressor and saltine crackers was quite a disappointment. Near the end of our meal, we saw another table with rolls and butter! What the heck??
If the prices were more reasonable to match the quality, I could have provided a higher rating. As we left the restaurant, I heard someone say the wait time was 1.5 hours! Why anyone would wait 1.5 hours for an expensive, average quality meal is beyond me??

This was my first time visiting Ye Olde Steak house and it was such an amazing experience. Our server, Christy was such a delight and gave us a history of the restaurant. She shared favorites with us and made recommendations that did not disappoint. She was knowledgeable, friendly and so personable. Our food was absolutely delicious. I had the filet with the woodshed potatoes and my husband had the rib eye with the broccoli casserole. Both also came with salads that were accompanied with homemade ranch or blue cheese dressing. We ordered the homemade peanut butter pie for dessert to celebrate the hubby's birthday. From start to finish, we had such an excellent experience. I highly recommend.

Visiting with our adult daughter in Knoxville and thinking about a place for dinner. She said her and her husband had wanted to try Ye Old Steak House for awhile. Decided to give it a try tonight.
Not overly crowded for a Friday night and got seated immediately. Server took our drink orders and brought the "Cheese Whiz" dip (not impressed).
Everyone orders and salads are brought promptly. Not surprising. They look like they were made earlier that morning and stacked one on top of the other in the fridge. Greens (just lettuce) were all flattened in the bowl, with minimal other veggies. Not impressed.
I ordered the medium-sized prime rib. Ordered cooked med. rare (as it should be).
It looked great when served, actually much larger than I had imagined. However, the taste and quality were significantly below my expectations. Meat had little to no taste, and the meat was much more fatty and grainy than other prime ribs I've had. This, in no way, was anywhere near other prime ribs I'd had.
Overall, food was edible but nothing exceptional. Price was way too much for the meals. Probably won't be back.

We eat here frequently and really enjoy the food and the customer service. Our latest visit allowed us to have Jenny as our waitperson, and was superior. We had a special request and she made it happen with a smile. The cup of cheese you will receive when seated was tasty with the crackers. The meats were cooked to perfection and the veggies tasted fresh.
The building is old and needs a refresh but I actually enjoy the ambiance with pictures and natural settings.
We have had bad service by one particular waitperson in the past, so I always ask for Jenny as she is personable and always wanting to ensure you dining experience is great.
They have specials Monday-Thursday with great prices. Any meal anytime is always great. Prices are $$$ but well worth it. Reservations are recommended.

My wife and I were seated promptly in a dining room that had the seating adjusted for social distancing. Our server was friendly and did a great job taking care of us. Our salads were fresh and on a chilled plate. My wife ordered a filet and the woodshed potatoes. I had a NY Strip and woodshed potatoes as well. The steaks were prepared to perfection as they always are here and the woodshed potatoes were great as well. We shared a piece of red velvet cake for dessert. This place wins accolades for a reason. It is excellent! You owe it to yourself to try this place out if you love a great steak!

I hate writing negative reviews but this one was inevitable. The steak was not bad but not great and tasted of charcoal lighter fluid. The broccoli casserole was overcooked and terrible. And what was with that cheese spread with a wooden stick to put on crackers. Oh boy what an awful dining experience!

I have eaten at Ye Olde Steakhouse several times this year. We liked the food and the cheese and crackers was a nice snack while waiting a short time for the salads. The steaks were on the expensive side. Limited seafood offers, but Overall I would recommend and I would go back, we just wish the cost was not so high. It will deter some future visits due to the high costs of the steak entrees, We are retired seniors.
Thanks Scott & Shawn

We ate here for a family celebration and the quality is no longer there. The total was $175 for 4 people. Bread is no longer served, the salads were skimpy, the entrees we wanted to order were not available, and the prime rib was almost all fat. Definitely not worth the price. One in our party said it was the worst meal they had ever had. Two of us ordered dessert (Red Velvet Cake and Italian Cream cake) to go. Both desserts turned out to be old and stale. Service was also poor and our server never came back to check on us during the meal. We will not be returning.

Our first time trying this place for a special occasion and we wished we had went to Longhorn or TR for a better steak. This was the toughest NY strip I have ever had and it was $44. We had to wait about 20 min for owner to return just to cut our steaks, we should have paid for drinks and just left. The salad was small and mediocre. Instead of any kind of bread pre dinner you get crackers…. And some sort of half frozen hard to spread cheese. Blahhh. Fries were over cooked and lukewarm when brought out, green beans were only thing that were good. Ordered steak medium and it was still blue inside, yet burnt on outside. Not sure where all the fantastic reviews come from because we had mediocre service and even more mediocre food. Peddler, Alamo and Longhorn blow this place out of the water for us. Will not return for a meal that was not worthy of $30 let alone $110.

Ye Olde Steak House have been located on Chapman highway for years.
Today, my two sons and I wanted to stop by to try their famous 5-layer red velvet cake and their amazing 5-layer coconut cake made from scratch.
We order our desserts to go and even though they are popular for their steaks, they also have the best fresh baked from scratch signature desserts.

This place has been on my bucket list for years. My wife and I were in Knoxville for our anniversary Tennessee game and decided stop and eat here before heading back to Chattanooga. We were seated quickly! We were greeted immediately by our server! SERVICE WAS GREAT! Our waitress was very chatty and answered all our questions! The cheese and the crackers were okay, kinda of like Cheeze Whiz! I personally would rather had some type of bread! Our order was taken and we had house salads out immediately. The salads were just okay, dressing tasted homemade, some lettuce, 1 cucumber, 2 onion and some carrot shreds and 1 grape 2 grape tomatoes. I had the Porterhouse, cooked to perfection and seasoned great. The broccoli casserole was not very good. My wife had the Filet, again cooked to perfection and seasoned great. The baked potato was over cooked and hard. We chose the Hershey cake for dessert, again just okay, it tasted old. Back to our server, she sent us a piece of Red Velvet home for our anniversary!
In closing, the service and the steaks were GREAT! The sides and apps were definitely not on the same level! Glad I crossed it off the list, but will probably not visit again!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Great service. The owner is very friendly. The food is tasty. My filet was tasty actually deliscious. So thrilled that salmon is back as it is fabulous. The hamburgers are excellent. No deserts this visit but so tempting. I could eat here every week. We always have a great meal with great service and the entire family enjoyed our little celebration for our grandson getting straight A's.
Proud of the lil guy.
Great night!

Folks have been telling us about the great steakhouse so we finally have visited it twice in the last few weeks. Love the decor and the introduction by our server. The food was excellent as well as the service both visits. Definitely will be a destination that we will frequent. My filet was excellent. The shrimp appetizers were delicious. The Salmon might be the best tasting salmon we've ever had. Love this place.

For a date night we ventured out for a Steak and decided on dining here; Great atmosphere and wonderful service! Parker was friendly as we walked in and made the start perfect! THE CHESSE and crackers were great, very good cheese….
My wife had the Steak on a Skewer with a Salad and Mushrooms, and I had the 20OZ New York Strip with a salad. We shared the Southern Green Beans and Woodshed Potatoes as our sides. All the dishes were seasoned and flavorful, my steak was a wonderfully grilled to perfection and perfect!
My wife had a slice of Key Lime Pie as her desert! She said it was amazing! I highly recommend and will be back sooner than my last visit! A South Knoxville staple…
