First few times I was here, I was hooked. If you were looking for crispy, delicious drive thru food, this was the place. Unfortunately, my last 2 visits haven't been as good. The food was a bit soggy & not fresh & hot like it...was when I first started going. I'm going to give it some time & try again because I'm hoping it returns to its former spectacular food.More

We have been hearing alot about Purple Cow in Kingsport. So, today we drove an hour and a half to give it a try. NOTE: This is a drive-thru only restaurant. We arrived just after Noon on a Wednesday. There was a line of only...a few cars to get to the order window, and our wait was less than 5 minutes. The menu is intimidating to say the least. Luckily, my wife and I had reviewed the menu online before we went, and we knew what we wanted. My wife ordered the Cuban sandwich with no onions and fries. I ordered the half Italian steak sub sandwich with fried pickles. It took a while to make it through the line and around to the pick-up window, but this was expected. They make everything fresh and to order. The first things we notices when we did get our food is the portions are generous and the food was very hot. My half size sub was huge. The flavor was quite good. The sub roll was just right, and absorbing the juices from the sandwich. The fried pickles were spears instead of the typical slices. They were thickly coated with a nicely seasoned and crisp breading. MAKE SURE YOU LET THEM COOL A BIT, BEFORE TRYING THEM CAUTIOUSLY. Even after sitting for several minutes, they were still so hot inside they burned the roof of my mouth. They were OK, but I personally prefer the slices to spears. My wife's Cuban sandwich was loaded with fried onions (Even though it was properly marked "No Onions"). With a drive-thru like this, there isn't much you can do. We picked them off. I am glad that she is not allergic to onions, though. The flavor of the sandwich was very good. Her french fries were bland, and nothing special. They looked like seasoned fries, but did not taste like it. All in all, I am glad we tried it. But next time we visit Kingsport, we will not try them again.More

The Purple Cow is a unique fast food restaurant. Try the Chicken Bomb Submarine with some of the best fries in the tri-cities.

My teenage son turned 19 and could eat anywhere he wanted. He choose Ridgewood BBQ for lunch & The Purple Cow for supper. We love the Purple Cow’s Steak Bombs! Our favorites are of course the Cheesesteak Bombs (beef or chicken), love their BLT’s, Fried...Bologna Sandwiches, most all their hamburgers (the bigger pound burger is as good as the quarter pounder). One 16 ounce patty or four quarter pound patties is your choice. Milkshakes, sweet tea, fries, hot dogs, onion rings. You name it they probably have it or can make it. Where us locals eat whether you live in Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol, Morristown, Rogersville, or Greeneville, TN. Always busy, always great food. Thanks for a great Birthday Meal. Happy Birthday Son / I love you & wish you a great, safe college semester. Go WASPS!More

My teenage son moved backed to College today & on his way back home stopped to bring ole Dad some good Purple Cow food for his 48th Birthday! First off so glad there back open after remodeling. Bag had on it Happy Birthday, but inside...had the Steak Bomb! Cheesesteak, grilled onions, and bacon on a foot long sub roll. My favorites are of course the Cheesesteaks (beef or chicken), love their BLT’s, Fried Bologna Sandwiches, most all their hamburgers (the bigger pound burger is as good as the quarter pounder). One 16 ounce patty or four quarter pound patties is your choice. Milkshakes, sweet tea, fries, hot dogs, onion rings. You name it they probably have it or can make it.
