We took a day trip to Johnson City from Asheville. I love Shoneys and we don't have one in Asheville anymore. We stopped at this one in Johnson City and it was wonderful! The service was outstanding and the food was delish! My brother ordered a steak and it took longer than usual but we didn't think much about it.... More

they used to have THE BEST ONION RINGS NO MORE...they are obviously no longer made fresh or cooked to order. The Slim Jim sandwich has also taken a quality hit, larger bun, thinner meat little taste, i will not return or reccomend

Had breakfast there the day we left. I have had more choices at other Shoney's but what they had was good as always on the breakfast bar. They had a lot of business that morning but we didn't have to wait to be seated.

Sorry to have to write this but if you're here for race week, pass. This location either is understaffed, or they just don't care. LONG wait for breakfast. And a wait staff who spend more time checking their phones with their back turned to you. On 2 occasions, walked in from a neighboring hotel. Leaving plenty of time to head... More

If you go around 11 you get the best of both. It's OK but not like Golden Corral. The isles are narrow you can hardly get two people in the same row

Everyone has eaten at a Shoney's, surely?! They are a great deal on the budget with lots of options and food bar also. The Slim Jim, which is a ham sandwich on hoagie style bread, Fish dinner which is available as fried or broiled, the Big Boy burger and Hot Fudge cake are the mainstays on the menu for decades.... Pretty much what you expect from this buffet-style restaurant chain. We had really wanted the breakfast buffet that Shoney's is famous for, but had just missed the cut-off time and were into the lunch hour, so maybe this influences my review, but I felt that the food was not quite hot enough and foods we wanted more of were not... Here's a family restaurant that was once plentiful in the Asheville area. We boasted five of the Shoney's Restaurants back in the 80's here. They are all gone in Western North Carolina now, including the Waynesville location. Apparently, they are more interested in relocating to the northern tier of states, instead of staying down south. Their iconic buffet is a... More

It was Sunday evening and we had the dinner buffet with ice tea to drink. Excellent meal. Chicken was fabulous and the fried shrimp were large.
