I will say, I came to this restaurant with high expectations considering the amount of good reviews I've heard about it since moving to East Tennessee. I really liked the setting and the idea of a family style dining experience, but it stops there. The...price for lunch is $20 per person. This means, 2 proteins, 6 sides, drinks and dessert with endless refills. Sounds great right? If you loved cafeteria food growing up and eating your body weight in pantry items, then this is the spot for you. Most, if not all of the vegetables brought to the table were from a can or a box (correct me if I'm wrong) and the proteins looked carelessly prepared and were grossly over salted. We, a family of three, couldn't finish our meal (without asking for refills) and didn't want to waste our leftovers, even if that meant feeding it to our dogs at home. So, we asked for a box. Our waitress had to get approval from the manager (loudly, and across the dining room) to give us a to-go box for $65 "worth" of leftovers. I watched tables exit to pay and leave plates of food which would ultimately be scraped into the trash can. I understand the restaurant doesn't want to be taken advantage of by giving people to-go boxes, but how is bottomless, wasteful sides which are ultimately thrown away a good idea in a world where people are starving? The entire experience was strange and sad.More

This was our first year to go out to eat for Thanksgiving. We had a huge crowd and the staff at Shirley’s were wonderful. Patty was an excellent server and made sure we were well taken care of, with plenty of refills. We loved the...family style service, which made you feel that you were right at home and it was very tasty. We loved the turkey and dressing and the roast beef, especially. You could pick two meats and had lots of vegetables that were served. Jeff was extremely helpful. We will be going again next Thanksgiving!!More

Disappointed. But based on menu and prices, I doubt that we'll try them again. Very surprised when a group of us attempted lunch on a Thursday in August. Fortunately we knew of another place nearby (Captain's Table) and had a great lunch.

I would consider myself a foodie. The food here was not what you would write in Bon Appetite about, however, it is REALLY GOOD home cooking. You choose 2 of 5 types of meat, and 6 of 10 sides, drink & dessert for $16.00. The...fried chicken and pot roast was delish! The side was simple and yummy. Mac and cheese was creamy goodness. The green beans were canned (not my taste, however, my husband said they were good). Service was warm and welcoming.More

Family style meal with choice of 2 meats and 6 vegetables. We chose the fried chicken and roast beef along with creamed corn , green beans , Mac n cheese , fried apples, mashed potatoes/gravy, and their famous cornbread salad which is worth the trip...alone . Hot biscuits were also brought out to the table . Dessert choices were apple cobbler, yellow cake with Carmel and our favorite hot fudge cake with ice cream . Great lunch even though it was crowded as usual .More
