About
The restaurant, formerly a residence, was built in 1910. It features hardwood floors, 12' ft ceilings, and 5 fine dining rooms, three with fireplaces. We have a full selection of spirits and over 20 selections of wine. We also have a patio that seats 25 guests. We host weddings, rehearsal dinners, showers and parties. When you dine with us, we want you to have a dining experience rather than the typical restaurant that tries to turn tables as quickly as possible. We serve each course separately allowing you to relax, take in the ambiance, enjoy a glass of wine and savor every bite of Italian cuisine. When you leave our restaurant, we want you to remember what it's like to slow down, enjoy one another's company and realize how nice and relaxing dining can be. If you have other plans after dining with us, inform your server upon arrival and we can speed up your service. Dress is casual and reservations are recommended during the week and especially on the weekends.

We always love visiting Mauricio’s! The ambience of the 1910 era home is absolutely wonderful while enjoying the delicious meal made to order by the staff of Mauricio’s. Last night we dined on the chicken parmesan (my absolute favorite) and my fiancée enjoyed the filet- which he said was the best he has had in Cookeville, hands down. All meals are always served piping hot, and are just the best. The wait staff is very attentive and you never feel rushed while dining there. The owner stopped by our table while there to check on us, and she was a delight! Very professional crew. If you haven’t tried Mauricio’s you definitely need to! Do not miss this hidden gem in Cookeville!

When i was told that there was fine Italian in Cookeville, Tennessee, I honestly didn't think it would be anything better than what I could make at home, however, when we arrived here on a date, it's like our worlds were flipped upside down! This is actually better than any Italian place I've found anywhere in Tennessee, and that includes Coco's Italian. When we were seated we could already tell this place was different. The 14 foot ceilings in the beautifully well-kept antiquated house really make you feel at-home and comfortable. When our server, Whitney, came to the table and offered a couple of suggestions, we immediately went with it and i think we stuck a home run with each selection! From the presentation to the salads, the wonderful treatment by our server, the focaccia bread, oil, tomato-artichoke dip and entrees completely blew our minds!
Unfortunately we didn't save room for dessert but I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the staff that made that meal happen. Wow!

Authentic Italian chicken Marsala was well prepared and so delicious. The dinner salad was served family style with an mild Italian dressing and plentiful ingredients. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for dinner

If I could rate it ZERO stars I would but there's no option. Horrible experience, probably would have had a better experience at the Olive Garden or the local pizzeria. What a shame, we had higher expectations since this place was featured on TN Crossroads as a fine dining establishment. What a big rip off. Big mistake for selecting this place for a birthday dinner. I made reservations in and discussed that I would like a private table closest to the fireplace. Unfortunately when we arrived, the hostess seated us opposite the table we requested and said that table was already reserved. We said that we called ahead of time and specifically asked for that but she stated that it was already reserved for someone else coming in later unless you want to sit by the bar. No we declined sitting by the bar and said that it's ok we'll just sit there. Forget about the ambiance, unfortunately the larger table was a family who kept discussing politics which was very distasteful. The tables are too adjacent to each other that you can hear their conversation. We ordered the calamari which was very tiny a handful on a plate, but the family next to us who ordered the exact same appetizer had a larger pile of calamari. They call this focaccia??? More like a flat bread. We had the large Seafood Mauricio what a shame came recommended as a best seller. We received tiny bowls with 3 pieces of shrimp, 2 scallops, some tiny mushroom spinach on top a creamy alfredo consistency pasta.There were no lobster pieces in the dish as advertised on the menu. We initially asked if they would be able to sub the linguini with angel hair, server said that they were running low on it and may have a little bit left. We said never mind then, it's fine let's just leave it with linguini and repeated it twice. They ended up still giving us the angel hair which clearly they didn't have enough of and which seemed child like portions. So much for touting large portion sizes in TN Crossroads. What a shame. The sangria was basically a glass of full of ice with watered down beverage. What a rip off and utter disappointment. Don't recommend this place for any type of celebration. Never returning to this place.

Please respond so I can see whom your server was to include specific information that you were given. I have not heard back from you but I did want to comment on your visit. After talking to the server and checking the reservation book, I see that the table you sat at was the table that we noted you requested. Although we could have made the mistake, I apologize for that. As we explain to everyone that requests a specific table, we can't guarantee it but will do our best. After you arrived, you let us know that you wanted to be at the table beside the one we had you at. Unfortunately, it had already been taken. We understand the table beside of you were talking about politics and we are sorry about that, but it is out of our control what our guests are talking about. After researching your order and talking to the kitchen, we see that you order 1 calamari and the table beside you ordered 2. Maybe you didn't realize that they had 2 orders and it looked like they got more. We measure/weigh all our appetizers so that you get the exact amount each time. You ordered a dinner portion of the Seafood Mauricio, but you split the dish into 2 dishes to share. With that being said, you had two dishes with one entree. The dishes would be smaller, and the seafood would be split also. If you had ordered the entree and not spit it, you would have a larger dish with all the meat. In addition, you had requested angel hair pasta and your server did let you know that we were running low, but she did substitute your dish with angel hair pasta as you requested. Our sangria we get is imported from Italy and we do serve it over ice. I am sorry that you did not like it. After you tasted it and didn't like it, we would have taken it off your bill and replaced it with your choice of any other drink.
I am sorry you felt disappointed with your dinner and special occasion. I hope I explained most of the things you were disappointed with. I hope you will try us again in the near future but if not, I understand. Jeff/Owner

We were there every week for date night. Janice was always our server and she was fabulous. Monty and Michael, the previous owners prided themselves on quality food and drinks and since I am gluten intolerant always accommodated me.
We thought we would try for a second time. The first time the new owner was cold and never checked on us. Her husband did come and speak to us and we talked for a bit. The second and last visit we will ever make was absolutely horrible. We had reservations. The table was not ready and we had to wait. The young lady was rude and service was atrocious. Janice always brought the bread out first thing. She brought the bread out after the so called lobster bisque after I had to ask about it. I never could imagine anyone emasculating lobster bisque. I can cook this soup. It had no flavor, no sherry and actually was a really thick, pasty flour mix. There aren’t many good restaurants in Cookeville so if we want to have a nice meal, we go to Nashville or Chattanooga now.
This place is a darling, romantic setting which is why we wanted to like this place again. but that’s it.
We won’t be back. Having bad food was one thing but there was no reason for bad service and her rude behavior. September 2020

I am sorry for your experience and I have tried to contact you to get more information with no reply. It has been since 2014 since Mike and Monty has owned the restaurant and we have made a lot of changes. We have owned it over 6 years. We have continued to improve our service as well as the food since taking ownership and with all our reviews, we feel that we have. We have never had a complaint with the lobster bisque before and there is a possibility that something happened with this batch. We do make it from scratch with real lobster unlike the previous owners. I always want to know if something is wrong so I can fix it immediately. In addition, I had asked you about the server whom you said was rude. We provide great customer service and I will not tolerate any rudeness from our servers. Again, I have asked you for more information to explain who and what they had done so I can take appropriate actions with no reply. I appreciate you dining with us and I apologize for your experience. I can promise you that is NOT the norm. You can check our reviews and see that we rarely have any problems with our guests and if we do, I try my hardest to correct it and also try to take care of my customers. Again, I ask you to contact me in which I have given you my telephone number to include a way to reply to my request with no avail. Went there to celebrate the Bday of a grand. We arrived early, they were able to accommodate us.
We order the Calamari & Fried Ravioli for an appetizer’s. Both delicious.
Husband substituted chicken soup for salad. Salad was over dressed to my taste, next time I would ask for dressing on the side.
I ordered the lamb chops, perfectly done, although a little too much of the accompaniment.
Hub’s ordered Chicken parm, good size serving, angel hair was slightly over cooked to his preference.
Grand’s Fettuccini Alfredo was a huge portion, especially w the add of Chicken.
Desserts were fantastic, Tiramisu & Chocolate cake,
It is a reservation only place, so plan ahead. Would be great in the summer on the patio..

The 'curb appeal' is one of a modest home. Step inside and you are enveloped in the scents of an authentic Italian kitchen ! The food is superb, certainly exceeding expectations for a small town restaurant. They make a sauce that is wonderful,
which is the key to great Italian; it's all in the sauce ! !It's as good as most places we have been to in Little Italy in New York City. The ambience is elegant, from the decor to the clientele, with beautifully decorated dining rooms, to the friendly and efficient wait staff. Mauricio's is a MUST SEE so get over there...chose a wine from their list...and drink it all in. You're going to love it !

I was looking forward to a traditional Italian meal. However, the bisque was like lumping room temperature pudding. My server was difficult to find. I had to leave my table to locate him. I didn't even receive silverware. The excuse was that it was the end of lunch. That should not matter. If you are still serving then it should be done properly. I have quite a bit of restaurant experience. Very disappointed.

This is a rare find. We had not been to Cookeville before but thankfully, found Mauricio's through TA. It's beautiful and the food is wonderful. As a gluten-free vegan, it's a challenge to find restaurants not only willing to accommodate my restrictions, but especially to provide such a wonderful meal. I had GF pasta with tomatoes, fried capers, in a delicious white sauce. I didn't see this dish on the menu but the gracious server suggested it and I enjoyed it. They weren't troubled at all by the dietary restrictions we had. I hope to return one day soon!

Loved this place. It’s in an old house so it’s very small an intimate. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! We had lasagna, lobster ravioli and shrimp scampi. We also had the chocolate cake and cheesecake with caramel sauce, oh my!

Dinner here last night was delicious and delightful! The food was excellent and our server, Chelsea, was attentive and helpful. The lobster bisque was very good and the shrimp scampi was excellent. This is a great place for special occasion. If you are in the area, try it.

Mauricio's was the perfect place for us to celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary! We ordered the calamari & lobster ravioli for our entrees. The calamari was really light and fresh, and the ravioli was AMAZING! We will definitely be back. Thanks Mauricio's!

Went to a late lunch and sat in a room with just one other table occupied, which seemed very safe in Covid times. Wonderful focaccia bread. Excellent service. Wonderful spinach salad with candied pecans and fruit and grilled chicken. Very relaxing and definitely recommend!!

Lovely old house setting with an array of different rooms to dine in. A menu with a good selection. Also, liked the option of getting either a petite or large portion of many items. Food and service were outstanding. We will return, if ever in that area again.
