This small town restaurant near Nashville, TN is exceptional. Overall nice decor, indoor and outdoor dining, separate bar area as well as very good service. I was dining alone so cannot attest to menu items other than what I ordered. I had Enchiladas Suizas Verdes,...guacamole, and frozen margaritas. I have dined in more Mexican restaurants since my childhood than I can count. Some have been terrible. some pedestrian, and some excellent. With the wide varieties of regional Mexican food offered in different restaurants, it isn't easy to compare. However, I have a standard meter for all: Salsa and chips. If the salsa is tasteless, plain, or hot without subtlety and flavor, that's a really bad start. Margarita. Weak? Poorly balanced taste (too sweet, too much strong lime, too little tequila and triple sec? Watery? This could almost be a killer. Beans? Runny, out of a can taste? Another poor sign. Enchiladas with dry chicken, too little sauce, drowning in cheese? Typical of many places. Hear's the good news: The salsa was perfect, chips light and fresh tasting, guacamole smooth and well flavored with chiles, cilantro. Beans with good flavor (I didn't have room to try the rice). Margarita good (not the absolute best I've ever had but they didn't ask me to make them like I do at home!) The real standout were the enchiladas. The chicken filling was moist, shredded, filled with tomatoes, peppers and onions that had been cooked with it. The tortillas were stuffed to perfection and the tomatillo salsa was probably the best I've ever had. There was a nice sprinkling of melted cheese that was complimentary. The dinner priced at less than $10 also included a large simple salad with shredded lettuce, a sliced tomato, guacamole and sour cream. This food reminds me of what I had many years ago in friends' homes in Texas, those who still had a Mexican woman cooking in their kitchens, adding love to all they prepared. I felt the love in my food tonight.More
