Hubby and I moved our son into his new campus digs and decided to make a weekend of it. We decided Saturday afternoon to skip all of the very American food places in the riverfront area and try Sitar. So glad we did. The atmostphere...was lovely. The restaurant was clean. The food was delicious and delivered in a timely manner. I wish the staff had been in masks, but we put ours on when not eating (as did most of the patrons) and had a good experience. We had the normal chicken tikka masala and sag paneer along with naan and papadum. They checked on us many times, kept our water filed and it was reasonably priced. Would go again.More

To me, all Indian food tastes the same. The only difference is the amount of spice. I always order something different but it's meat, curry, and other spices. Don't get me wrong, it's never been bad but for such an elaborate menu...you'd think I'd taste...something different. I'll keep trying. Like I said, never a bad meal and always excellent service. Cloth napkins! Means they got to pay a laundry bill. So, prices are a little high. Expect a $15-$20 meal instead of the $12-$15 average.More

Our experience has been that if people eating in an "ethnic" restaurant are mainly of that ethinicity, it's a good sign. Perhaps this place is the exception that proves the rule. We've eaten Indian from London to SF and have never had food as bad...as this. Lamb Vindaloo (7 tiny cubes of lamb & 3 pieces of potato in canned tomatoe puree), Bengan Bhurtha (eggplant w/peas, onions & tomatoes ground into tasteless baby food), rice (undercooked & tasting of canned broth), naan & rati (wonder bread has better flavor & texture), and rice pudding (watery gruel). Even the chutneys and papadum seemed like loser dishes from a cooking school. Complete absence of ANY subcontinent flavor (and we ordered extra spicy), all served in a dingy dining room with stained carpet. In fairness the staff was friendly, and the Taj Mahal and Flying Horse beers were good and cold. But then that's true for any dive bar.More

When you enter the restaurant, you come immediately in the mood from the nice smells and Indian music. The prices are descent and they offer soft drinks, beer and wine. They also have 3 different mango drinks on the menu: lassie with yogurt, mixed with...milk or regular fresh juice. The buffet offers 2 different rice either plain white or basmati with vegetables, vegetable stews, naan bread and chicken dishes different styles. The chicken tikka masala tasted the best, but could have been more spicy. The gravies are rich and flavorful. Their dessert buffet is small and only offers rice pudding and mango cream, which tastes great though. The service is friendly and they don't hurry you up to finish your meal, which was much appreciated.More

Nice location not far from the river. Very delicious and in great quantities for really low prices. If we come to Chattanooga again we will definitely go there again.

I have eaten at the Sitar in Nashville several times and enjoyed it each time. I was in Chattanooga for a conference and went a day early to tour the Tennessee Aquarium. I was pleased to find a Sitar downtown Chattanooga across from the Aquarium....Although they have a nice luncheon buffet, I decided to order off the menu because the Korma in Nashville is so good. The Sitar in Chattanooga had a similar menu and extensive buffet like the one in Nashville but there were a few notable exceptions. Most importantly, they had garlic Nan in addition to traditional Nan. The garlic variety was extraordinarily good. I may have to go back to Chattanooga just for that. My vegetable Korma did not disappoint and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. If you like Indian food and are in Chattanooga, I would definitely try Sitar. You can order your meal, mild, medium, or hot so do not avoid Sitar just because you fear very spicy food.More

We've visited 2 or 3 times with a group and family and friends. Those familiar with Indian food found familiar favorite dishes that were carefully prepared and displayed. Those new to Indian food all found something to enjoy. The nan was fresh, the rice was...delicious and the condiments and sauces created lots of variety. We'll be back next year when we visit Tennessee and it's my turn to pay.More

I don't think they do, been there many times, I focus on the food and my phone while I wait for the order. Whether you order from the menu or do the buffet, the food is excellent.
