The Pickle Barrel was high on my list of places to visit in Chattanooga. I discovered it on an overnight visit back in June while walking downtown and made a mental note to have dinner there when I returned. Last week I walked in hoping...to find a place to sit on the upstairs balcony. There was a sign at the entrance telling people to seat themselves, but I thought I’d ask a server if there was any room before walking up. She very rudely snapped at me saying she hadn’t been upstairs in 3 days and that I’d have to see for myself. Had the response been more welcoming and accommodating I wouldn’t have minded at all to check. But I was treated so rudely that I walked out. Apparently customer service is not the order of the day at this restaurant. Don’t waste your time!More

In the afternoon I went to the Pickle Barrel with 3 friends and had two drinks, we all thought it was a great place, with a good vibe about it. Our server was Ash, she was excellent. We asked her if it would be ok...for around 20 of us to call that evening, after we had had a meal, she said it would be ok if the place wasn’t too busy. We are a group of people who are on a motorcycle tour and raising money for impoverished children in the uk. In the end 14 of us walked to the bar from the Blue Orleans restaurant, which was a great meal. We were refused entry to the bar, because one of our group was carrying a bottle of beer, which we were told is illegal throughout all of America, something we didn’t know. Then the man on the door said we were stumbling about, yet no one was drunk, I’ll admit that it may have been me stumbling, but I do have some mobility problems and after 8 operations on my ankles and knees I sometimes struggle with walking. Not one of us was drunk, we all love music and we were looking forward to a great end to our evening in Chattanooga in this little bar. This is the 11th year we have done a motorcycle ride in the US for charity. We have never been turned away from any bar in all that time. The man on the door and the manageress were unnecessarily obnoxious with us, it was very disappointing and upsetting to be accused of being drunk, when we definitely weren’t.More

This used to be one of our favorite places when we lived in Chattanooga 30 years ago. We went back during our visit last week and were delighted to see that it hasn't changed. Great atmosphere, great burgers and fries, good selection of beers.

A few friends and I drove up to Chattanooga for a day trip and we selected the Pickle Barrel because we saw that they had deep fried pickles. Once we arrived, parking was easy to find (street parking available plus a pay to park parking...lot directly across the street, which we paid about $6 for 2 hours to park). We walked in and it was a seat yourself situation. The waitstaff was tentative and helpful, we ordered the deep fried pickles (yum!) and brie for apps, and then each of us got a burger/sandwich. I had the Pepper Jammer burger and it was so good! The restaurant was 21+ only, so didn't have to worry about kids, it is a tight fit restaurant with close seating, so not having kids there was great. The bathrooms were interesting and the whole building was just historic and so fun to look around. My only suggestion is to add something about Jimmy Hoffa on their menu or something on the wall about him, we had read about him stopping there on their website and would have liked to have seen more information about the times he visited. Overall this place was wonderful and affordable and I would definitely return when/if I return to the area!More

It was hot and we were in downtown Chattanooga. I had gone several years ago and told my wife I wanted to go back. We went in and were told we wouldn't be seated because my 5 year old daughter was with us. We told...them we had walked six blocks from our parking spot (true story) because the parking was packed on Market Street. The staff immediately started blaming each other for the policy and they would "seat us if it were up to them." We were even refused water after our long walk despite them seeing my clearly dehydrated little girl. Disappointing would be the best possible way I could describe this experience.More

Not only can I rave about the quality of the drinks and the food, but the service... the staff made sure I got to my hotel safe and sound. Avery (not sure on spelling) offered to walk me a block or two because I had...mentioned earlier in the night that my walk to the bar was sketchy. He and the kitchen staff then allowed me to exit out of the back because a patron who was paying me too much attention was hanging around out front. I will be sure to visit this place every time I come through Chattanooga from here on out. The food and drinks were phenomenal, but nothing beats a crew who genuinely care about their patrons!More

Dropped $100 on appetizers and drinks for a party of three for Thursday Night Football. Waiter cut us off because we went to the bath room too many times, suggesting we had to much to drink. WE ARE 60+ YEAR OLD'S - IT'S WHAT WE...DO!. Ignoring the crappy TV for football - it's just a crappy bar. Go somewhere else.More

We ordered food to go since the place is 21+ and we had some younger people in our group. We had a classic burger, a vegetarian burger (black bean patty), a salad, milkshake, and sides. All food tasted good. The fries were amazing. The milkshake...was a little disappointing. Overall, the food was great but we wish we could have dined in.More

This was my boyfriends favorite place we ate on vacation. The food was flavorful, hot, and had a lot of pickle options. We had the fried pickle spears, the pickle brined chicken, and the signature burger. There is seating downstairs and a rooftop area upstairs....They had a great playlist going and we enjoyed our dinner here.More
