Excellent Food! Short drive off highway.

The horchata was very good! I got a burrito and taco and both were excellent. My wife got the Loco Burrito with chicken and it was the best she's ever tasted. It is about 5 miles or so off the interstate, but if you've got the time to stop it's well worth it. The service was very quick also. We would definitely recommend this as a stop!

Visiting Carthage to see some friends. They took us to El Ray for Sunday lunch after church. I have to say our server was on it! He was always refilling drinks and asking if we needed anything. Thumbs up! The food was typical of most Mexican restaurants. I order a taco salad with chicken and I forgot that these restaurants put SHREDDED chicken on a taco salad. Ugh. It is always so wet and it just doesn’t taste as good as the grilled chicken. I picked around and of course ate some of the Shell :) Some May just love this salad but I prefer grilled chicken and I should have asked for it. Chips and salsa were great, chips were hot and fresh!

Prices are good and I like the idea of a lunch menu. So often people don't want pricey lunches or large quantities of food. They are on their game at getting food out quickly!

El Rey Mexican restaurant

We used to eat here frequently, as the food was very good. Ownership seems to have changed hands a couple of times in recent years. The food is average now. Some of the entrees seem to be soaking in water when they arrive at the table and get soggy very fast. We still eat here on rare occasions.

Very Highly Recommend!

Very friendly and welcoming service. Delicious food. The best Mexican food in town in my opinion. Plenty of seating. The only thing I would say about it is that there is only one toilet for ladies and one for gents. I wish they had more stalls available, but other than that I have absolutely no complaints. I very highly recommend!

We've eaten here for years and enjoy their consistency and good service. The usually have "the game on" and are quick and give good portions.

El Rey Mexocan Restaurant is a great small town Mexican restaurant. It has a good atmosphere and the food is good but it was much better when the original owners had it. Still recommend it to anyone traveling through with a hankering for Mexican.
