We were in the area and decided we were hungry. Checking the online reviews led us to Ebel's Tavern and we were glad we found it. From our server, Christine, to the food, it was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and Christine...was very proactive in meeting all of our needs. We enjoyed the cheese steak with a side of sweet potato fries, and the Reuben with a side of onion rings. It was VERY GOOD and we will definitely be back. Nice ambiance.More

My husband and I were in Carthage on Valentine's Day and looked up a nice place to eat while passing through. Ebel's had great reviews and looked like a quaint independent place (we try to avoid chain food as much as possible). Ebel's is in...the lower level of a historic building in adorable historic downtown Carthage. It was so fun driving through and taking in the sites. We got there early but they were booked up for Valentine's Dinners. We sat at the bar, which was open, and that was fine. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Drinks were great. Food was very good - what you'd expect for this genre of dining. Easy to be satisfied and the prices are reasonable. We had raw oysters to start, which were fresh! I ordered salmon done rare on a Caesar salad. The salmon arrived well done. Asked for another one made correctly. There was absolutely no problem with the request and the salmon came out quickly the second time prepared perfectly on another fresh salad, to boot! My husband had redfish, I believe. It was good as well. Not quite as large a portion. Left enjoing our experience in historic Carthage. Definitely recommend this lovely hidden treasure vs the normal chains, Mexican and Chinese in the area.More

Mack and I were there yesterday for lunch. He had their burger and I had the Reuben sandwich. Service was attentive and the food was very very good. Would go there again. Prices were reasonable. Don't park on the square. You will never get out....Go around the corner to park.More

Chargrilled oysters, grouper, trout, great burgers! But the very best thing on the menu is the grilled, buttered broccoli. (Seriously, try it.) Amanda is a treasure and should have her own tv show! Oh, have the sweet potato fries, too. They're served with a yummy,...marshmallowy dip. Mmmmmmm! Ebel's is most definitely the best restaurant in the area.More

Will never go back. Waited forever for our orders. Prices were high for the quality of the food. Basically, it's a bar.

DECOR: down under tavern, literally. This is in a cellar and has two walls of stone. It almost has a European feel. Open I- beam rafters complete the ambience. The single restroom is surprisingly tastefully decorated. This is place is not a dive. There is...a large potted plant and bronze finish fixtures in the lavatory. STAFF: friendly, informal, attentive. Amanda worked diligently to assure our satisfaction. When I was undecided about beers that fit the description of what I wanted, she brought me two samples. When I gave instructions about how to cook my burger, it came back perfect. FOOD: the tavern burger was as good as any I've had. The meat was tasty and cooked perfectly, with a bit of color left rather than cooked well and left tough. There was a healthy layering of tomatoes onions and lettuce as well as ketchup and pickles. My wife had the fried green tomato BLT. She said it was quite good. Because it was Father's Day Amanda comped me a piece of key lime pie. To my surprise it was not a frozen, mass-produced pie. In fact, my wife, who is an avid baker, commented that it was clearly homemade. Amanda confirmed that, saying that they have a woman in town who bakes their pies for them. PRICING: I thought the prices were quite reasonable. The fried green tomato BLT, Tavern Burger, sides of fries all around, and a beer all came to $25. I saw a review on this site complaining that the prices were high. I come from closer to Nashville and perhaps am used to a different price structure. I think you would be hard-pressed in the Nashville area to come up with food at this price level without going to McDonalds. A lunch of this quality would come to $15 more probably. OVERALL: definitely good tavern fare. The menu was not fancy or voluminous but offered a couple of pages of choices; more than I would expect. Everything we had was tasty and satisfying. I would go out of my way to eat there when in the area again.More

After reading other reviews, it would appear the management of this bistro has never read any review..... For the record, the food is great....!!! The waitstaff are spot on with grace and knowledge of the fair at hand......and the digs are cool, neat and well...appointed. HOWEVER, the music venue is LOUD, and over bearing...!!! The four of us could barely communicate, commune or enjoy the experience... In fact, when the entrees arrived, we wolfed down the very tasty creations but, WE could not wait to ESCAPE the Riot, Echoes and Vibrations of the one Chick Band...... No, we did have another round of drinks, no dessert and no quality time..... WE could not wait to depart and escape the RACKET....!!! What a shame; this could be a real treat with just some quiet music, conversation, fine cuisine and cool digs..... The true question is if Ebel's wishes to be a ratschiller or, a restaurant...... We will peek in again, but, if there is any kind of AMPLIFIED MUSIC, we will be gone before the door set to the keeper....NO Dine, all DASH!!!More

Keep giving this place chance after chance. Wait for service is long, food even longer, and the price is way to high for very mediocre food at best.

Nice atmosphere but very long wait times for appetizers and main course. Wait staff was courteous but the food was very undercooked and overpriced. Very disappointed, had high hopes for this establishment... I have ate at many restaurants across the country that have been better...quality for much less. I also have no problem paying for quality. I will never go back or recommend this restaurant.More
