I'm a foodie. I'll admit it. I don't care about decor but I care about cleanliness and good, clean, tasty food. I'd tried a couple of other sushi places in the area and they were awful so I investigated and found Jasmine. We've been now...maybe 10 times in the past 9 months since being in the area temporarily. The first time was 4.30 on a Friday and I couldn't BELIEVE the amount of people crowding into this little teeny 'storefront' in the most unassuming strip mall. We followed them in. It's a dark and pretty 'blah' interior with some low-seated bench areas to the right, a main dining room to the front and left and and an open sushi bar area where you can see the sushi being prepared for you. On the first occasion I was blown away - by far the best sushi for the local area - it was simple, fresh and not the 'drizzle everything on it then deep fry with avocado and cream cheese' that so many of the local sushi restaurants believe are what sushi-lovers like! We also ordered the shrimp tempura (delicious) and several of the fried rice dishes. I like heat and basil so the basil fried rice was a no-brainer for me. It was wonderful. My husband loves pad thai and he thought that was great too. We've been back several times and I've ventured away from the sushi and basil rice to the regular entree menu but always have gone back to the staples that I like which were wonderful. Except for the last three meals. Given the Covid-19 situation we've ordered for pickup and each time my usual meals have made me really unwell in the bathroom. I honestly have no idea why or what ingredient could have caused me to react. Our older son confessed he really didn't like his first two of his two last meals - both of which were Chicken Fried Rice - but he still ate all of it and managed well! I'm not sure whether some ingredients are sitting and spices are being unused due to trade and what we are all going through right now - so I want to give Jasmine the benefit of the doubt - but 3 out of 3 recently - firstly with sushi, then my regular Basil/Chicken - it just doesn't bode well. I really, really, wanted to rave about the place and previously for food it was always great with some servers being excellent and some just 'so so' - but you can get that anywhere. However I really am going to give it a while before we go back so that they can get things back in order. The competion in the area is awful - so I really hope that whatever the hiccup was, they can rectify it.More
