We could have had a free breakfast at the hotel, but opted to go to Phillips Avenue Diner just to experience another restaurant in the downtown area. We rated Phillips Avenue Diner 5 stars not just for the food, which was very good Diner grub (sausage, English Muffin and Elvis Waffle) but also for the service. We come from Illinois and are accustomed to masks and social distancing, something South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska are not. No problem. What I really loved about this place was that we, for the most ;part, were secluded in the front side of the diner - that's right - no one else was around. Our waiter, Paul, was fantastic as he was accommodating to us and kept his distance when serving us (which we really appreciated). Plus the diner itself from the outside is really a beautiful building. So good food, fantastic, accommodating service, and a cute building makes this a 5 star establishment.

Good comfort food in the middle of downtown Sioux Falls. They offer all the traditional diner choices as well as excellent milkshakes for dessert. Add great service (Marya was our waitress) to the menu offerings and you have a winner that is a must do if you're staying in downtown.

My husband and I both really enjoyed our breakfast. Everything was prepared just to our liking, there was plenty of food, and it was served quickly. Our server was very friendly, and we enjoyed talking with him about the local area. One caution - if you like strong, dark roast coffee, bring your own. The restaurant has typical not-very-strong diner coffee.

My family of 4 ate here at lunch time recently. Cute little retro diner in the heart of Sioux Falls. Their food is very much homemade and not cookie cutter. Excellent sandwiches, pasta, and salads. Milkshakes are to die for. Best thing...they did not force masks on us which we truly appreciated - kindness goes a long way. This place does it right!

This diner is definitely a staple in Sioux Falls. It has a retro diner vibe to it. There's a lot of seating and the staff is friendly and fast. In fact, I asked my wife if she noticed how friendly the staff always is.
We always go for breakfast. Their portions are large and incredibly delicious. Well priced too! My wife always got a shake while she was there and they might have some of the best shakes ever. Their s'mores had actual cooked marshmallows on top.

I just called in an order to the Philips Avenue Diner as I was in town for an appointment and was looking for a good Jambalaya and saw they had it on their menu. I had asked to have the order ready by 11:15 but my appointment ended early so of course I got to the Diner early. I told them I was there for my pick up order and just had a seat wait. Within a couple of minutes the hostess came and asked if I would like them to start my meal now or did I want to wait. I asked that they do it whenever they could. Well within about 10 minutes she showed up with my food. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and saw the portion size and even more surprised when I tasted the jambalaya. You have two choices: blackened chicken, or pull pork with andouille sausage. I had the latter and it was fabulous! I will definitely be hitting up the Diner in the future when I am in the area. Very pleasant staff and outstanding food!

This diner has very good food at a reasonable price. My husband had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and brown gravy and asparagus. He said everything was cooked to perfection. I had a spinach salad that had blueberries, grilled chicken, strawberries, and walnuts with a honey vinaigrette dressing. Delicious.

We ate here at the recommendation of a friend who previously lived in Sioux Falls and it was a GREAT choice for breakfast. Many options, fair prices, and super friendly, fast, attentive service. My husband had the corned beef hash, I had the 2+2+2 and neither of us left hungry. If you're looking for a fun, family friendly breakfast place in Sioux Falls, check out Phillips Ave Diner!

Weekday breakfast.
What we liked:
1. Lovely diner ambience/big roomy booths with posts and hooks for hats and coats
2. Predictable breakfast menu
3. Music is low
4. Free parking 7-9 am right at the door
5. Good hash browns
6. Attentive, friendly service
7. Reasonable prices; veteran discount
8. Bright, clean restrooms
What we didn’t like:
1. Panhandlers at the door
2. Coffee tastes like truck stop juice. Undrinkable.
3. One does NOT toss a handful of herbs into white sausage gravy, which was not white and creamy and but gray and thin.
4. Pancake was flat, tasteless, and nearly the color of chocolate.
Would we return? I say no, hubby says yes. I’d give the place 3.5 stars but it’s not an option.

Our four top was seated after a minor wait during the lunch rush. The booth was cramped but once seated it was comfortable. We had two breakfast meals, a cheeseburger and a cripy chicken salad. Coffee was good and service was on time even though they were packed. The eggs were cooked exactly as ordered and the pork link sausage was excellent. The salad was typical and the cheeseburger was over cooked and not very good.

Ate dinner here while visiting downtown SF. Friendly server (Kelly) and delicious entrees for about $11-$13. We had the beef stroganoff and the Swedish meatballs, both were very tasty. Nice outdoor seating area on a cool evening along the various street sculptures on Phillips Ave. Save room for one of their great milkshakes too!

This morning we decided to visit the diner for breakfast. We will not be returning. While we were finishing our food. My daughter still eating her side of sausage and with a half a glass still of orange juice, and myself sipping on my coffee, a lady maybe in management, not sure, came by and told us she needed the table. Kicked out before finishing the food and drink we paid for. The food was standard breakfast, wasn't anything to write home about. The server we had was good. I paid early before he even brought us a bill, and tipped 20%. Then we were told to leave. Horrible place!! We weren't rowdy or loud or obnoxious. We were having a quiet breakfast and discussion. The line at the door was growing, so they decided they were going to kick people out that were eating rather than focusing on the paying customers in front of them. I had to go to Starbucks when done to purchase the coffee I didn't get to enjoy that was paid for at the restaurant.

Very good diner, fast service. Good food selection. Very old school menu. I loved it. One nit they do serve hot food on cold plates. I mean they do not warm the plates when they put the food on them so it does cool off rather quickly. Other than that, you can't go wrong here.

This diner is located in a popular area of SF that has restaurants, shops and bars. This street was very active with locals and tourists. We were promptly greeted and seated. there is an expansive menu. My husband had the gumbo and I had the philly steak and cheese. Both were excellent! The diner has a 50s theme and vibe and is a lot of fun.

Cute diner with hard working and friendly staff. Homemade meatloaf with mash potatoes and broccoli was very tasty. Hubs had the Chuckwagon which he enjoyed a lot as well. The diner is downtown surrounded by sculptures and cute shops. They also have ice cream which I didn't have. They looked good though.
