We recently stayed at the Alex Johnson hotel in Rapid City to help our son with his move after he was discharged from the Air Force. Tally's was rated one of the two or three best restaurants around this area and was located directly across the street, so the decision to eat here was easy. The ambiance is casual but pleasant and our server was excellent. The menu here is definitely a step up from the norm around Rapid City, so we can recommend it from that standpoint. The burgers and pastas are varied and reasonably priced but the main entrees are priced on the high side at $26-$48. My wife had the "Grand Ole Poultry" ($29), which was essentially very spicy fried chicken. She doesn't like anything "Picante", so she really struggled through the meal; if you like searing peppery heat, this dish may be for you. Our son had the "Puerco Secreto" ($33),which had an interesting combination of romesco, lemon and honey, and enjoyed it. I had the "Ducks Unlimited" ($29), prepared three ways, and was interesting, slightly "gamey", and too salty for me to completely enjoy; the duck pot pie part was the best in this dish. By the way, we all started with the soup du jour, which was very dense and salty cheese soup, which I couldn't recommend. While I can recommend Talley's, it is with some reservations but it still probably rates as one of the few higher-end restaurants in Rapid City. We had brought some nice wines from our cellar and corkage was only $5 a bottle, so that is a very nice policy if you don't want to order from the virtually all-California wine list. There was a guitarist playing (Friday night), which I found a bit annoying. Overall, on this night, I'd give our experience 3.5 to 4 stars.

I had such high hopes for this spot after reading so many other reviews. We attempted to go once but we didn't have time for the wait, fortunately we were able to swing by on the way out of town. There is limited seating for the peak season in the area, so be prepared to wait if you're planning on breakfast or brunch. While the outside looks very "original" the interior has clearly been modernized and is quite comfortable and enjoyable. After being seated, our waitress quickly came with water and to take a drink order. We ended up settling on the Smoked Salmon Benedict and the Chicken Fried Steak. We'll start with the Chicken Fried Steak, $15 seemed a little on the steep side, but the amount of food served was very good for the price. Unlike most fried steaks, these are a nice and thick piece, with an adequate amount of breading. The gravy seemed to be a bit bland, but no doubt you'll leave full with this entree. The Smoked Salmon Benedict seemed so promising. The presentation of the benedict was absolutely stunning (so much so, the hashbrowns seemed out of place), with a perfect amount of red pepper coulis on the plate. The flavors of this dish were clearly carefully thought out, and came together for a delicious result... But, this is a 4 star review for a reason.. Some of the ingredients were cold in the dish. The coulis was nearly ice cold on the plate, had this been hot, it'd have been a 5 star plate. Maybe things were just off for the crew today, I will certainly be back to give the buffalo steak a try.

The restaurant was very nice. Seemed to be very popular. Digital menus. I the food was pretty tasty, and the prices matched the popularity (expensive) This restaurant is NOT a kid friendly place. They don’t have kids menus, or meals, you’re going to pay full price for kids who eat 1/4 of the food. Waitstaff was very busy and was common for them to forget items we requested. If you’re traveling with kiddos. Find another kid friendly place.

My family is not hard to please, but we were disappointed with this choice. We had reservations and it was ten minutes of standing at front before someone even acknowledged we were there. Finally seated and waited nearly 15 minutes to get some water and for our order to be taken. Waited nearly an hour for food to be served and to top off the poor dining experience one of the meals was cold. Not much worse than cold chicken Alfredo. Manger did comp that part of our bill - but service was so poor for the amount of people there that I simply could not recommend to anyone.

An absolute gem! This place is located 20 minutes from the Rapid City Airport and provided us with a great way to spend the morning before we left from our long weekend to Mt. Rushmore. We had breakfast. The salmon eggs benedict, the lox plate, the crepes and the meat lovers breakfast plate were all outstanding and come highly recommended by my family. The place has a fancy diner feel and the wait staff was beyond friendly. If you have a short wait, take the time to walk up and down St. Joseph’s Street to view the presidential statues on all four corners of every intersection.

Vibrant dining room in a good location, this place has potential for sure. We were seated at 7:15 pm on a Thursday and did not get plated until 8:30 for 3 people. Probably a Covid thing. The clam chowder dip was very strange, grainy and no taste of clams anywhere. After that the food was very good. I had bbq ribs, wife had bison pasta and the flavors were amazing. Waitress was pleasant. Wine and beer here only, no cocktails.

Food and service were great. It’s the time of year where everyone wants to eat at once in a crowded tourist location. Tally’s provides texting service if you have to wait (we did for about 20 min) and a menu on a QR square—just point your iPhone camera and Safari appears at the top of the screen. Click and you’re in the menu—nice! COVID compliant precautions taken here. I had the Smokin’ Pig (yummy pulled pork) and hubby had the pasta carbonara (huge portion). Apparently breakfast is served all day. Delish!

He ordered buffalo burger and fries,I ordered Dick burger and sweet fries. All extra toppings ordered including caramelized onions if on there at all couldn't tell, late service for a burger and sweet fries when half a customer restaurant also were terribly overcooked to a cracker. Been here years and years and years. Burger was ok but overcooked and I could of gotten better fries from a food truck...sorry owner's but a failed day.

I wanted to like this restaurant, but feel that ordering the indecision menu was a big mistake. We chose to order 4 courses ($40/person). They were able to accommodate gluten-free. $100 with tax and tip (no beverages) and we were still hungry. The waitress, Ruby, was very sweet and kind, but the kitchen was sooooo slow. It took more than 2 hours to have dinner here, and we left hungry. Each course was just a couple of bites, and while tasty, it was lukewarm and not very satisfying. Went home and warmed up leftovers because I was still hungry. The location on the corner is great for people watching and the ambiance is nice, so I would probably try it again and order something else. We heard good things about the indecision menu and thought it would be fun, but I cannot recommend it.

We had a late breakfast during the middle of the week; expected the dining room to be empty, but it was quite full, even at mid-morning. We were seated quickly though and service was great throughout our meal. Coffee was good; orange juice was high quality. We each ordered bacon, eggs, HB; one of us also ordered a side of sausage. All was cooked perfectly. Portions were quite generous. Prices reasonable. We'll be back.

Yesterday my wife and I took our daughter to Tally's to celebrate her birthday. We had not been to Tally's in quite some time so were excited to return. Bad decision! The food was poor at best and overpriced. In addition, my wife asked our server to put a candle into a dessert before it was served. She told us they didn't serve dessert but after thinking about it she said she had an idea and suggeted the chocolate chip pancakes with fruit on top. We agreed. The fruit was good, but the pancakes not so much and they charged $14. The previous evening we dined at Sabatino's, a very classy place, for my wife's birthday and they comped dessert. Our server was delightful but that was as far as it went. I realize it is tourist season in Rapid City and everything gets a little crazy but I don't think we will ever return.

We stopped here for lunch at 1:38pm, because of the almost 5 star rating on Trip Advisor. This is the first time I was totally let down. To begin with, the whole experience was rushed because they close at 2:00pm to get ready for the dinner crowd starting at 4:00pm. I ordered the pasta with Alfredo sauce and chicken. My lunch arrived w/o the chicken, the sauce was like paste and you couldn’t even separate the pieces of linguine to get a fork full. It was nothing less than a blob of a mess stuck together in a bowl. In fact, I had to use a fork and knife to eat the pasta!!! Had to ask our wait person to get my chicken. The linguine sauce also tasted very fishy. Just an awfully dish!! My husband had their buffalo burger plate and it was totally awesome. It looked fabulous and he said it tasted just as it looked. My suggestion is to stay away from their pasta and stick to burgers and the like.

While the menu is not extensive there are a good selection of items for every taste. We enjoyed Halibut, Flat Iron Pork, and Maytag Bison pasta, all recommended by our server, and all truly top tier. The manager accommodated our desire to dine outside on a beautiful late evening. Service was attentive and professional. We highly recommend.

Went there because we wanted buffalo burgers. We kindda knew what we were getting into and still stepped into it head first without thinking. Our bad. It wasn't "terrible". We ate it. It was "ok", but hence the problem.. it was "just ok" No burger, EVER, anywhere, for no reason, should be $20, period. Yep, I know.. I saw it on the menu, I knew the price, I ordered and didn't walk away. That's on me. I was however, expecting more quality or at least something other than average and the norm when a simple basic disk like a burger is priced at $20+ Waitstaff was nice and tried their best. Everything except the drinks was way overpriced. Ok and average at best bison burgers. Good fries though.

After an hour walk about the little town and seeing all of the statues of presidents we found this little “little silver spoon” . Was nice to sit at the counter. Great menu but best of all were the Mega mimosas (had grapefruit juice ) for $8.00. Our bartender/server was very friendly and had fun talking with other locals leaning more about Rapid City.
