Hy Vee is the only standalone grocery store in Brookings so by default it is always busy. On the other hand, maybe they need some competition (besides Wal Mart). It's a grocery store so not a lot can be said. The employees are generally super...friendly and helpful and the grocery selection is ok. However, the place needs to step up it's game - definitely time for a remodel. With the building of so many new Hy Vee stores in the metro area of Mpls-St. Paul one has to wonder if the company has forgotten about the existing stores.More

Great place for shopping! Our top place to shop here in Brookings. The food is very tasty and the prices are reasonable.

I have problems finding fresh vegetables and fruits as often times they are dried-up, wilted, not ripe and sometimes like the cilantro it is covered in mud. The other problem is many items are out dated that are on the shelves like coffee I found...last month that had a 09/2016 use before date. I have also found things in jars out dated as well as items in the cold section. There is a remarkable difference between the Hy Vee in Sioux Falls compared to Brookings. I think corporate needs to look into the the management of the Brookings operation. As far as the eating at the store goes I have only eaten there when friends wanted me to eat with them, I was not impressed with the food, utensils or how to get served.More

Hyvee is a well stocked supermarket with good service. The prices are a bit above that of his main competitor Walmart, but the service is more efficient.

Brookings HyVee has almost everything a person would need, except clothing of course, and even then sometimes they Jack Rabbit ware. The store is always clean, everything in good repair and displayed nicely. The aisles are wide enough to shop in comfortably. The food served...on the buffet and in the deli for eat in or take out is fresh and tasty and they have a nice variety which changes from day to day.I don't have much time to cook so I will just let HyVee do it. They also cater events. I manage a hotel in town and they have the best fruit in town. Don't hesitate to give HyVee a try. Also, during the summer they have a burger shack in the parking lot where you can pick up a quick lunch of burgers or brats chips and a soda. What more could you want for a quick stop.More

Took my daughter, a student at SDSU, here to stock up on food for her apartment. What a wonderful store! Very clean although we did sense a funky odor that smelled like seafood that had been sitting a bit long. Kind of like that smell...you get when you throw meat wrappings in the garbage and it sits in the hot weather for a couple of days. Hopefully they get that taken care of. That was only complaint - rest was great.More
